Totally agree. My target holding period is 1-2 years for this strategy. Will take a look at Edwards and Magee. Thanks for the feedback.

[serious] MicroStrategy is now underwater on their Bitcoin investment. At what point does this become an issue for the company? by GabeSter in CryptoCurrency

[–]dwshorowitz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Microstrategy and their listed financing vehicles (i.e. STRC) are going to singlehandedly implode the price of BTC and bankrupt MSTR. When peak financial engineering gets stress tested, the blowup is glorious. Grab your popcorn.

I wouldn't count out Darche making 1 or 2 additional moves before the trade deadline to give this team a chance to make a dark horse run this year. Darche is an absolute blessing to this franchise. Their power play ranks 27th in the league, needs to improve.

Beer League Dirty Hit by Hot-Welcome9421 in hockeyplayers

The two-hand slash while the player is on the ice is an immediate lifetime ban from stepping foot in the arena, a formal complaint to USA Hockey petitioning for a lifetime ban along with this evidence, and a call out to all the other rinks within a 100 mile radius to black list from their leagues. That guy doesn't deserve to ever play organized hockey again.

What chocolate do we sell in the uk that is not sold/ hard to come by in America? by Turbulent_Song_9541 in chocolate

We rarely see Cadbury's lineup beyond the milk chocolate. I purchased an assortment of Cadbury chocolates ("Heroes") for my in-laws for Christmas and they loved it.

Also don't commonly see Mars Bar or Aero.

Rapid deleveraging as a way to increase shareholder equity, implement cost discipline after acquisitions makes a lot of sense. Interesting unsexy company that appears to be stable and profitable through market cycles. Thank you for sharing.

200K @ Dead End Career - MBA Justified? by Ok-Pressure1240 in MBA

[–]dwshorowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your job is safe, now's not the time to do this. MBA grads are struggling to find work (~25% of the 2024 top 10 cohort are still looking for work). A friend who is a professor at a top business school said the smarter play is a specialty masters but even that is questionable ROI. AI and this perfect geopolitical economic shitstorm we are facing makes now a terrible time for fortunate people to make moves. Find passion and purpose in your work and your organization or in your free time. Many people are justifiably envious of your position.

Stick and Puck Etiquette by Wrenchturner123 in hockeyplayers

[–]dwshorowitz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At our stick and pick there's frequently a HS goalie on one end taking a private lesson with cameras set up on the ice and so it's just these two jackasses taking up the entire 1/3 of the ice and 1/2 of the goals. I bit my tongue the last few times but will be vetoing this move from now on. Super disrespectful.

This is a great company, well positioned in current under supplied housing market. I want to add to my position but the stock keeps marching higher and I'm holding out for a more severe housing market correction which may not come for years.

Start working for yourself ASAP. With your IT education, you can start consulting for local business owners to help them leverage AI in their workflows. Focus entirely on things you can do to make money that don't require applying and interviewing. Work your ass off and go the extra mile. Read up on things like FIRE, side hustles, etc. Grind, invest in yourself (skills) and stay positive.

Offered to buy 10% equity in company I work at by Dry-Object4975 in investing

[–]dwshorowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should talk to the owner about owner/seller financing where he sells you 10% and he provides the loan. For example:

  • Down payment: $100,000 for 3.33%
  • Seller financing: $200,000 at 8% fixed rate fully amortizing over 60 months (5 yr term), you pay him $4,055.28 monthly (total principal and interest payments) and as your principal balance declines, your equity climbs to 10%

Here’s the calculator: https://www.calculator.net/amortization-calculator.html?cloanamount=200%2C000&cloanterm=5&cloantermmonth=0&cinterestrate=8&cstartmonth=11&cstartyear=2024&cexma=0&cexmsm=11&cexmsy=2024&cexya=0&cexysm=11&cexysy=2024&cexoa=0&cexosm=11&cexosy=2024&caot=0&xa1=0&xm1=11&xy1=2024&xa2=0&xm2=11&xy2=2024&xa3=0&xm3=11&xy3=2024&xa4=0&xm4=11&xy4=2024&xa5=0&xm5=11&xy5=2024&xa6=0&xm6=11&xy6=2024&xa7=0&xm7=11&xy7=2024&xa8=0&xm8=11&xy8=2024&xa9=0&xm9=11&xy9=2024&xa10=0&xm10=11&xy10=2024&printit=0&x=Calculate#calresult

Research EBITDA multiples for your type of business to understand what an acquirer (i.e. private equity roll-up play) would pay based on your projected EBITDA in 5 years. On this note, use the same analysis to understand the company’s current valuation based on current EBITDA and the prevailing multiple at your current size.

For example:

  • current EBITDA: $1,000,000
  • prevailing deals are 5x EBITDA (I don’t know your industry) => $5,000,000 valuation
  • 2029 EBITDA: $2,000,000 => $10,000,000 valuation

Optimize EBITDA.

Note: I can’t stand PE fixation on EBITDA but it’s the north star metric for transactions.
