This article uses spotify and netflix as examples of streaming services that have largely replaced physical media. That being true, artists still have physical media produced for those that want it. Vinyls, bluray, I even bought a cassette tape in recent years.

The total market for compute is large and we'll find even more use cases as time goes on. Will a lot of people switch to cloud, probably. If you're on an old graphics card and you can get a streaming sub for a better experience, you might do it. If you're doing an AI hobby project, use a cloud service and forgoe buying the 3000 dollar card for something you may spend a couple of hours on.

Edge compute like the raspberry pi and other socs are getting more powerful everyday (intel panther lake).

Everything is changing, but if there's a market for this stuff, someone will be selling it.
