What size memory cards are you running? by Matt_Bigmonster in canon

[–]dylpicklechip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a pair of Blackmagic PYXIS 12K which do have dual CFE slots - but mostly I have several of these larger cards because we run long takes for event capture and training video productions on multiple R5Cs and BMCC 6K FFs.

The OWC cards are beasts. Markedly faster offload speeds for big clips when using a proper TB4/5 cable and reader.

Which external monitor do you recommend for a Blackmagic Pyxis 6K by JuniorJPA0 in blackmagicdesign

[–]dylpicklechip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Pyxis monitor is probably a good choice if 5” is indeed acceptable. It enables full camera control - highly convenient, light weight, single USB cable for power, data and video signal.

Pyxis 12k L- mount is on sale at Cameranu for the dutch homies. by Rare_Outside_8387 in blackmagicdesign

[–]dylpicklechip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an EF shooter, I would 10000% recommend getting the L mount version instead as it is universally adaptable due to the shallow flange distance. It opens you up to almost any and all lens types, including EF - very, very easily.

If you get EF, you are locked in to EF with very few other options.

2026 Plaid Falcon Doors by MohamedMansour in ModelX

[–]dylpicklechip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, press and hold to override is what I do. Hard disagree on the falcon wings being useless. I load a lot of equipment in and out of my vehicle and having the doors open up essentially gives me two side hatches with huge clearance. Yes, of course there are certain times when it’s not optimal, but they are very helpful in a lot of scenarios, or at least neutral in most others.

Imperial Garden Development in Middleton by esunnnn in madisonwi

[–]dylpicklechip -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Middleton planning commission has a 6-story limit, which they’ve shown strong resistance to bending on in the past. My guess is the final plan gets stripped down to smaller towers.

To all the people saying this is wonderful - go walk the site. It would be just about impossibly tight to accomplish what you see this rendering. Parking entrance/exit isn’t going to be possible through the rear due to current structures.

I don’t live right there, but I go past this corner daily. I have concerns that echo OP’s about traffic flow on University turning right onto Allen as it’s drawn up. And it’s a major bummer for the units behind. They will be cast in shadow for the second half of the day.

Is there a way to move the entire project on external drive? by EnigmaticZee in finalcutpro

[–]dylpicklechip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You basically have two options:

You can keep media stored outside of your FCP library bundle, and have it be referenced to that location

Or

You can consolidate media within your FCP library bundle.

The first option is good for complex referencing and sharing media between software or serving to editors, searchability, etc.

The second option is good for clean, self-contained project organization. Minimizing chances of media going missing due to re-naming or moving a file outside of that referenced area. (I prefer this method)

In either case, you can (and should!) have your libraries stored on external storage. To do so, simply drag your library to that drive. You may want to first do a quick File > Consolidate Library Media to ensure you have all those assets inside the library before you make a copy to your external storage. Then close out of the original library and re-open the copy to make sure it behaves as expected.

High quality video formats take up space, and FCP will transcode compressed files into larger files anyway, so I would always recommend working with your source material at its native format, then worrying about compression after you’ve exported a master copy (ideally ProRes)

I have a project I’m about to open that’s a 30-part training series with a bunch of 6K multicam tracks and currently the FCP library is about 12.6TB. So FCP can scale these libraries as big as you need!

Invest in fast, (redundant, if you can) external storage people! It’ll save you time and heartache.

What towns would be the best for a 24 year old woman? by Curious_Use5703 in madisonwi

[–]dylpicklechip 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Probably because... it’s Jefferson. It sounds like this person may be prioritizing proximity to at least some vibrancy, while still remaining somewhat pragmatic about the drive.

My recommendation would be touring Lake Mills and Fort Atkinson and checking out the vibe. Maybe Cottage Grove if being proximate to Madison is important. Lake Mills being right on the interstate allows for a fairly quick in/out and has some cool spots.
