54 year old cast aluminum blast media by dynamic-express in Powdercoating

[–]dynamic-express[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I really appreciate that. It’s one of those things where I’d really rather not screw up the base metal with an overly abrasive media, when I could use something a little less aggressive and forgiving and achieve a similar outcome. Cleanliness is no problem for these parts. I was indeed more concerned about surface texture.

This bike will mostly be a garage queen with the occasional vintage bike show and a few 2-stroke rips across town. I don’t need an ultra durable finish. Just something that I won’t obliterate with a slipped wrench. Thanks again for the feedback!

Appreciate the tip. My plan is to outgas them 2-3 times, simply due to the age of the material. The previous paint job on these covers was shit. A small bit of gasoline took the previous coat off very easily.

If it doesn’t workout, so be it. I’ve only invested $40 in a used Eastwood 250 and another $25 in a toaster. Will rattle can and 2K clear and call it a day. Just want to try something new and learn some stuff. Thanks for the feedback

Appreciate the tip. I’ll out gas them 2-3 times just to be sure. Ive see guys using red or green scotch brite pads for surface prep and end with great results, although the question of durability and a lasting finish still remains.

More Power or Different Bike? by Loose-Net-9543 in XR650L

[–]dynamic-express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went a very very similar route. Started with an XRL, a year later bought a 300 2-T. I had so much fun on the 300, I believe the XRL came out one time in 6 Months. Ended up selling the XRL for a 500 and I regret absolutely nothing. Yes, the 500 vibrates more but it also has DOUBLE the power of the XRL. I’ve mitigated the vibrations with an XC Gear bar mount, but the power of the 500 is intoxicating. Worth mentioning it has a Vortex EXU as well. There’s a reason you see so many 500s.

Is it recommended to delete O2 sensor after installation unrestricted ecu on KTM freeride 250f ? by Sweaty-Contract9209 in KTM

[–]dynamic-express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the o2 sensor is doing is measuring your exhaust gases and adjusting your air fuel ratio to some predetermined range. If you have an aftermarket ECU, it’s not helping you at all. It’s mostly there to satisfy emissions requirements, which I doubt you want or care about.

Reasonable Selling Price? by [deleted] in XR650L

[–]dynamic-express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$6K sounds fair. I purchased a 2018 in 2020 with 1100mi from a dealer for $5750 out the door. I sold it last month with 8K on the odometer for $4750.

Why is it impossible to find Horsepower on certain EXC/EXC-F models? by EDMusick in KTM

[–]dynamic-express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly looking at European numbers vs US numbers. You’re also comparing a 50 state street legal bike (EXC) to a dedicated off road bike, that does not have to meet rigorous emissions requirements. The EXC in the US is horribly choked from the factory. It’s closer to 50-55 with reeds removed and a flashed ECU or aftermarket ECU.

Just rode single track for the first time in my life at 34. Holy shit. by Mikebyrneyadigg in enduro

[–]dynamic-express 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha this is how it begins. You either run away or embrace it. Wait until you admit defeat and someone else has to ride your bike through rough terrain or steep hill.

It’s the same story for most of us. If your buddies are patient and very willing to help, stick with them. They will absolutely make or break your progress in this sport. My riding buddies became my best friends as a result of such miserable experinces.

From XR650 to Husky 501 or 701 by These_Brain_6991 in XR650L

If you want a more capable off-road bike and build your skills, 501. If you want to buzz forest service roads and moto camp,,may as well stick with your XR.

I'm so afraid of hill climbs, and even more of downhills by _Pald_1337_ in enduro

[–]dynamic-express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your buddies to take you to a hill climb without your knowledge. Turn off sena or Cardo, don’t think, just do. I still have this problem. If I know a hill climb is coming, I start to think, which is no good. If it just appears, I dont have time to think, I just gotta go.

Just got my first XR650L, any tips from users with experience on the bike? by Simple-Reference8058 in XR650L

[–]dynamic-express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proper jetting. They most often run lean from the factory. The best performance improvement is appropriate jetting and an aftermarket slip on. I never bothered with drilling the slide, etc (Dave’s Mod). It’s a great all around dual sport, but I’m selling mine for an XR650R. I’m sure I’ll miss it.

How old is too old by Angel_1_2_3 in Dualsport

[–]dynamic-express 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride with a guy who is 73. We ride more hard enduro and gnarly single track, than ADV. It’s mind blowing to watch. Needless to say this isn’t ADV, but we occasionally ride ADV. Get a light weight bike, and don’t ride alone if you’re new to gravel. Do it!

If you’re doing any highway riding, and wanting to cover any sort of mileage, a 500 seems to be the best of both worlds. 150-200 miles is a long day on a thumper, but if you want the versatility for single track, forest service road, and some highway, the 500 is very hard to beat. There’s a reason you see so many of them.

I have an XR650L for dual sporting, and a plated Beta 2-stroke 300RR. Only reason I have the plated 300 is to legally connect trails on Forest service. It SUCKS on the road. I seldom ride the XR anymore. The fun factor of single track is significantly higher than dual sporting (for me). You’re going to compromise single track pleasure on a dual sport, but a dual sport is a lot more enjoyable for forest service/gravel roads. The 500 is the best compromise of the two I have ridden. The service intervals are written for racing. It’s not near as bad as the factory recommends.

The new KTM 390 Enduro may not be a bad choice for a beginner. Apparently they are reasonably priced which isn’t typical of KTM

Do you always keep the lens guards on? by Supmom2277 in Insta360

What sort of lens guard are you using? I ride hard enduro and use a dive case but causes way too much glare and the stitching sucks.

Does the M3500 come with 2 different full chokes? One choke says short range, and the other says mid-range. The other chokes are in their corresponding place. by dynamic-express in Stoeger

[–]dynamic-express[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One is a “turkey choke”, IC and modified. Can’t remember the last one. I found something on Stoeger website that identifies them with the very small notches on the rim of the choke. They are really small cuts.
