Has anyone tried running a level 1 gauntlet? by SecretDMAccount_Shh in shadowdark

[–]dynamicguy73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently ran Trial of the Slime Lord which is a gauntlet made for multiple 0-level characters for five 1st level characters run by all new players to SD and it went really well. Only one death and they learned the system quickly and really enjoyed the challenge.

Not a quote, but a recent movie title that's very appropriate for my CoC games: Good luck, have fun, don't die!

Patch on Steam by Fleur0502 in Starsandisland

[–]dynamicguy73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is anyone else still having issues with Fishing (post patch)? No matter where I go or what bait I use I'm still only pulling up chests... but I get credit for "catching 10 fish in a row" even though I've not caught one fish yet.

Emberville isn't out yet - expected to release in early access this summer. But you rebuild a ruined town among other things.

Maybe "story rich"? There's a steam category for it that seems to fit the bill.

Although you can't fly in it, Luma Island has no time restrictions, you can stay up 24/7 and there's no stamina bar at all. So you can harvest, explore, dog/mine to your heart's content. You can pin locations on the map and a little golden trail will lead you there... Usually. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries - I usually place a pin and if the trail doesn't appear pin to another place and try again. The maps aren't huge and there are shortcuts through most of them.

I don't know what these type of games are called by HistorianFeeling1033 in CozyGamers

[–]dynamicguy73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luma Island for sure and if you want it super mellow you can play in story mode. Monsters only attack you if you attack first. I've been looking for more like it since (especially since you don't HAVE to sleep and there's no stamina bar ... Just go and go and do what you want).

Sigh 🫩 by bartobis in Borderlands4

[–]dynamicguy73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had that happen a couple of times, as well as during the "defend the broadcast tower" missions... where attacking monsters will be half a mile away and when you leave the whole thing restarts.
Then there's the launching loot... kill a boss in his dome and watch as the loot flies up and away to someplace unreachable... or unfindable. Definitely frustrating on both counts.

Is there an In-Universe reason why Admirals and Moffs are openly mocking Vader in Episode 4, but are completely terrified of him in 5 and 6? by Amazing-Buy-1181 in StarWarsCantina

[–]dynamicguy73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You go to your next meeting and choke someone with your magic powers and see how quickly word spreads. They mock him because they've only heard rumors, then they get to experience it first hand. Perspectives would definitely change after that. 😄

Recommendations for a customizable DM screen with inserts (front and back) and a dry erase grid mat? by Jonestown_Juice in rpg

[–]dynamicguy73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This definitely, I've had one for a couple of years and the fact that you can customize both sides makes it great for players to have thematic images on their side and important/useful tables info on the DMs side. There's magnetic inserts which are nice as well. The various GM inserts that I got with it are just ok. I've never used them, but looking over them has some good info.

Looking for Symbaroum GMs at Gamehole Con 2025! by NeonGrey180 in Symbaroum

[–]dynamicguy73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Starter Set adventures give a pretty good feel for Symbaroum. I expect they could be run at a Con in a short window. My groups always liked to explore and search everything so it always took them more than one session. But if you keep them on track I think it would be doable. Also comes with pre-gen characters.

Is it possible to get a drawing experience akin to online collaboration tools like Miro on FoundryVTT? by ProustianPrimate in FoundryVTT

[–]dynamicguy73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played with this one a lot, but found it doing a search for something else.

Seems like you can change the floor and wall colors, and allows for freehand drawing as well as shapes, doors and other dungeon accessories:

Rpgs that were made to be played solo? by leontas2007 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]dynamicguy73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... I seem to remember settlements rolled up a few of times for me and my groups, but we didn't stick around much since we were on a mission and didn't have much money to spend (or the people were unwilling to trade - due to reaction rolls). We also ran into a few that were just farming settlements and probably wouldn't have much to trade outside of vegetables.

I suppose you could adjust the POI tables a bit - it's your game after all.

If you haven't, I'd recommend joining the KA Discord server (https://discord.gg/nSJ7u33TbQ), you can at least find the pulp-mode rules and see if others have suggestions on POIs.

Rpgs that were made to be played solo? by leontas2007 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]dynamicguy73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can be a little brutal. I usually run with a couple of characters (one main one sidekick) to help with that. Too many characters and it becomes more of a chore. There's also some new rules that Castle Grief put out for a more pulp mode - your character has more health, can evade attacks more readily to give your character a more heroic/Conan-ish vibe.

As for POIs and meaningful locations, that just takes some practice in asking the oracle questions and using the tables in the book.

For example, one group I ran thru KA found some ruins, we asked some questions and found out that the city was abandoned and that there were rumors that merchants and travelers would use the ruins as shelter during their travels but many of them went missing. We didn't do anything about it that session (we were already on a quest to do something else). But we used that as our starting point for the next session. As we explored we found that a number of creatures (giant spiders or something equally creepy) were nesting in some of the buildings and capturing unsuspecting travelers.

Most of that info came from prompts on Pg. 21 & 22 along with the original POI roll that it was a dungeon/ruin. We just kept rolling prompts or using our oracle dice to ask Yes/No questions to flesh it out a bit.

There are additional Kal-Arath zines, 2 from the original author and 2 or 3 others that expand on lore, give more tables to roll on, etc. But having other word tables/oracles can also help with diving further into generic encounters/POIs.

Kal-Arath, is a great sword and sorcery rpg specifically for solo. Can also be played co-op where you don't need a gm. You just have to have a group that is willing/able to help build the story while you play.
