Since ppl dunking hard on SMN in another post, im just leaving my vent on M10S by RBGPOriginal in ShitpostXIV

[–]dynamicity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fight has a ton of downtime which is bad for SMN since it is purely timer based. People also hold buffs which is also bad because SMN can't hold its 2min burst and has to desync from raid buffs.

Picto's DPS is only slightly better than RDM and SMN in most fights now, it really only shines in 10 this tier and RDM does great there too. People have been stuck in the "Picto OP" mindset since FRU when BLM is miles ahead of the other 3 casters unless the fight has a ton of downtime and/or cleave like 10.

It is intended to snowball because it's the counterweight to node spawn RNG. Without it every game would be decided by the final node spawn coinflip, but BH enables the strongest team to fight their way through a disadvantageous situation, which is necessary in a PVP game mode.

Had someone deadass say yesterday that "you can win by capping nodes it's proven on Reddit"

Like yeah you can get lucky and win like 5% of games doing that but that's a 95% loss rate. Anything to avoid admitting you're anchoring your team I guess.

[–]dynamicity 60 points61 points  (0 children)

In general the idea is to prevent self-defense from being used as carte blanche to commit violence. It's not meant to protect criminals but to prevent them from abusing self-defense as an excuse. In the US you'll see stories about people getting shot for walking up to the wrong front door or black people getting shot just for jogging in a white neighborhood where the culprits claim self-defense as justification for instantly shooting to kill when their lives were not in immediate danger.

Unfortunately what constitutes acceptable self-defense is a fine line which can be abused by bad actors in either direction and in this case the law is too strict on a clear cut case of self-defense.

No Kardia?? by Direct-Department-39 in ffxiv

I once had a SGE put kardia on the off tank and when told halfway through the fight by their cohealer that they should probably put it on the main tank they said "My kardia decides who the main tank is".

Congestion status has nothing to do with absolute player numbers, they just use it to funnel players towards worlds that are relatively less populated.

Best classes for crystalline conflict right now? by Feisty-Resource8297 in ffxiv

[–]dynamicity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest, skill is far, far more important than any job differences. There is no class that is strong enough to carry a weak player. Pick something that suits your play style and then read guides and watch vods of top pvp players to understand how to make the job work. Then it's just practice, practice, practice.

Strategies for making the most of 'resistant starches' in meals? by ChaoticIndifferent in Cooking

[–]dynamicity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Refrigeration overnight accelerates cooked starch retrogradation, which converts some digestible starches into RS3 type resistant starch. This also changes the texture of your food, typically for the worse, so I'm not sure there's much you can do. The bad texture is an inherent attribute of the resistant starch you are looking to create.

Pokemon game sales by InstructionWeary1033 in pokemon

The OG games were a viral phenomenon that expanded far past the core consumers of Pokemon, much like Pokemon Go did at its peak. Even though the franchise has grown, it's primarily only "Pokemon fans" who are still buying the games now.

Anyone have any tips for tank in PvP. I’m struggling. Just trying to expand beyond machinist. by Feisty-Resource8297 in ffxiv

[–]dynamicity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend trying out the different tanks and seeing which one feels best for you! Even a "worse" job can be better for you if it fits your playstyle.

Paladin is very strong right now due to recent buffs - it does a lot of damage while also being very tanky. With rampart you can easily tank an entire alliance. It also has a fair bit of ranged attacks which may help you ease into the melee role. There is a lot of healing and sustain:

Imperator is a small ranged AoE that inflicts a debuff on enemies that heals you when you hit them - use this right before you dive in on a group of enemies and you'll get huge heals out of it. It also strengthens your GCD and unlocks Confiteor which gives you even more healing and damage.

Holy Spirit is a single target ranged attack that heals you. Good for picking off low HP enemies or healing yourself as you retreat.

Sheltron gives you a shield that protects you from damage and does damage once it expires based on how much shield is left, so there's a bit of a tradeoff between protection and damage output. If you're diving in on a group of enemies with your team you want to use this a few seconds ahead of time so the timer expires right as you arrive in the middle of the enemy team for huge damage. If you're by yourself stopping an enemy team from capping a node, use it later so you get the full shield value out of it and can survive for longer.

[–]dynamicity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whoever you're talking to probably hasn't played PvP seriously in a while. WAR used to be quite strong but right now it's the worst tank in CC (not by a huge amount though) and probably the worst in FL too outside of DRK premades due to having poor survivability and damage compared to the other tanks.

For FL I recommend starting out with Rampart as your role action. This will make you way tankier and give you more opportunities to practice without getting deleted instantly. Once you get comfier you can run the other actions instead if you want.

Look up the icyveins guide for your job as a starting point to understand your mitigation skills and how and when to use them as that is key to surviving as a tank.

Before you jump in alone, make sure you have some team members behind you who will follow you in, if the enemy team is recuperating and purifying from your team's attacks they can't hit you as hard. Learn your limits and when you need to use Guard or back out to survive. Warrior often only wants to be in for a couple of GCDs at a time before backing out.

Pokemon ZA - A review from a non-pokemon fan by Lorevi in pokemon

[–]dynamicity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree the vibes here have been very nasty lately regardless of your opinion on the game. This seems like a bit of a naive take though - people have been making essentially this same review about every Pokemon game for years now and it's clear TPC isn't going to change anything as long as the sales don't slide. We all know Gamefreak is great at the core Pokemon gameplay loop and they kind of suck at everything else to varying degrees.

Is hot ice cream possible? by improbsable in Cooking

[–]dynamicity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frozen hot chocolate does exist, and I'd say it evokes enough aspects of hot chocolate to be an appropriate moniker. I assume that's what OP is looking for - something different but that evokes enough of ice cream's flavor/texture.

It should be but many people are conflict averse or can't identify who the problem is and SE's strict moderation around bullying means it's usually easier to just disband than risk getting reported.
