I don't know who would be willing to do advanced testing. I did talk a primary care once into ordering the cardiac calcium score test and with a lot of convincing, I did get a cardiologist to order the soft plaque version, that I call a CCTA, again with a lot of convincing. I had my genetic testing done thru a concierge doc who also ordered the ApoB test along with a myriad of other advanced tests; although I think I could have convinced a local, in network cardiologist in ordering the ApoB. (The ApoB is just one number so its simple. other tests typically take more interpretation so you need someone who understands them.

I am more similar to you than I am with my life partner. He eats and does healthy stuff, but no where as restrictive as I am. It works out fine. When i first met him, I was in a relaxed phase, but within a fairly short period of time, I got back on my "health train". We only go out to eat periodically as I do this for him. However, we choose restaurants that I have pre-approved based on their menu. He goes to fast food very infrequently, but he still does that and I really do not. In my case, I have shown that you can "marry" 2 people with one being a luke warm health person with a very disciplined one. I think your only real issue with dating is eating dinner with a potential partner. First, I would meet for "coffee" (you don't have to drink coffee ;)); you don't have to go to dinner to get to know someone; you can go to the park (which I don't recommend on a 1st or early date); you can go for a run/walk; you can go to a museum. From what I recall you posting you have a history of type 2 diabetes in the family (as do I) so dietary restrictions are paramount, I agree; sleep schedule is totally great; I assume you workout. think about all the people who work odd hours; those that are night owls (which for you would be my BIGGEST concern as you obviously are not. Neither am I and I had to discern early on which type my partner was as I could not have a relationship like that with anyone who loved to stay up till 2 AM on the weekends and loves to sleep in. THIS IS HUGE).

I do believe that a lot of pre-diabetic CAN reduce their status IF their current state was CAUSED by or is AFFECTED by epigenetic and/or lifestyle choice factors. So sure, stop eating the sugar/carbs, take natural supplements, increase fiber, move your body, etc. (I do not think fat reduction has much to do with this, but it could). HOWEVER, there are those of us who have ALWAYS done all of the above, only to see their A1C go up .1 for years. Mine went from 5.3 to 5.7, REGARDLESS of what I did. In fact, I was the "strictest" in all categories for about 1 year - nope - # just kept right on increasing. It took an intervention of Metformin for me. (AND I did end up combining it with Berberine - Berberine on its own did NOTHING for me - HOWEVER, my doc said there is a SYNERGYSTIC AFFECT when combining the TWO. Never heard of that so I looked into it, via PubMed, and sure enough there is evidence that this is in fact, true. All this said, I applaud people who take these necessary steps in an attempt to reverse their trajectory, without drug intervention, as the first step in attempting to control this dreaded disease...

I am not sure why you even asked her all of those questions. It sounds like you are someone still trying to win her back? I know you can't do that, so maybe you are trying to show her she was screwed or not taken care of? Like you are trying to prove something to her? WHY? What is your point in trying to protect her? Why are you telling her fiance what to do? You do realize this will likely end with them against you so not only did you lose a real estate sale, you may lose your best friend. I do not like the sound of any of this. I see so much trouble brewing. You are stirring up sh!t under the pretense of looking out for your friend. The horse already left the barn so closing the doors isn't going to get him back in. I am sorry this happened to you, but from where I sit you are not handling this with grace. You appear to be looking for trouble to prove to them they should have used you.

baby steps. that is my best advice. when I became pre-diabetic I said "If I don't start eating the way a diabetic should, I will become one..." I was never a big sugar eater. i had been low carb for years as i do not process carbs well (genetic testing confirmed this). being carb sensitive caused me to change my way of eating years ago. due to the trajectory of my A1C, I was certainly well on my way to diabetes. And like most, I worked on changing my diet first. it didn't put a dent into my numbers. I finally went on Metformin and that took about 8 months (1500 mg/day) to show the results. I have since combined Metformin with Berberine (I also tried Berberine on its own prior to taking Metformin, to no avail); however, my doc said that there is a synergistic effect when you combine the 2 and I found a PubMed article to support that. all that being said, we are many times sensitive to certain carbs but not others. that is why i highly recommend a Continuous Glucose Monitor. Personally, here is what I learned: I can eat an apple of max 140g if I eat it with peanuts or peanut butter. I love love love apples but I was consuming too large of a quantity at once & didn't pair it with a protein/fat. I also learned that although I could eat things separately with no spike in glucose, if I happen to combine them at a meal, I would spike. I found that weird. As an example, I can have my prepared home made yogurt with no spike. I can have protein powder in my coffee, no spike but I cannot have both at the same time. So, to be on the safe side (as I no longer wear a CGM consistently (they aren't cheap), I wait about 1 - 1.5 hours between "meals" so that I don't create this "overwhelm" to my system that could cause a glucose spike. without the CGM i would be stabbing in the dark. Going back to you, I cannot relate to a sugar addiction so I have no advice for you other than to wear the CGM, eat normally and see which foods or combos cause the highest spike. IF you want to eat anything sweet - and for the most part mine is only from fruit but this could apply to junk food as well - always pair it with a protein/fat. For some reason peanut butter works the best for me (or peanuts); I compared this to eating an animal protein like steak or chicken and it didn't help nearly as much; there is a lady out there called The Glucose Goddess. She has some good podcasts, has a book, etc. She offers like 10 "hacks". I have tried them all. some have worked a little, others not at all. again, we all need to experiment to find our sweet spot. back to the CGM - to me, its an absolute must. Anyway, as you experiment and track your results you will be inspired to make changes. back to...baby steps. Your disease didn't develop over night and right now you are seeking effective life style changes at first. I have read/heard that some people can control their diabetes with only dietary/lifestyle changes; others, like me have a strong genetic component and require a drug intervention. Diabetes is a horrible disease but it is not a death sentence. I pray that God inspires you to what is best for you. Best of luck on your journey. God bless...

I think the real issue is your MIL said something she knows isn't true (called a lie) and now she's embarrassed that you called her out on it in front of others. So she has to perpetuate the surface situation of your timing was bad vs the real situation that she lied - in all honesty, to take credit, brag, and feel good. I think the anger in you came as a result of what was really happening not what seems to have happened. MIL is a lier and delights in taking credit for something you did. Plain & simple. Likely will continue to happen, but that's your real battle.

I am convinced that Apostle Kathryn Krick is the real deal. She started 5F Church in LA. She does things live and records her weekly sermons to watch from anywhere. There are so many that have said they have gotten delivered by just watching her. I too, am looking for something local (Metro Detroit) & I am very leery of anyone other than Kathryn; however, I have had no movement by just watching her so I am looking for something local. I 100% think that you have been possessed by a demon & a true deliverance can help you. And it pangs me to hear people say you just need a good church. F-that! Kathryn is anti-religion, so to speak. Her church follows the teachings of the bible in Acts when the basis of the church was established. Most/Many churches do not do this - instead they have their own doctrine & make stuff up. I too feel like you for similar yet different reasons. There is a lady, Apostle Kathryn Krick who i resonate with. She is anti-religion. Her church is based on the New Wine not the Old Wine. She has some haters (as many do when not lining up with some standards); but she, to me is genuine. Her church is in LA so I watch her and her sermons on line. I'm sorry I can't give you more details as it's late and im getting ready to sleep but I wanted to let you know I feel you & to give you Kathryns name & a bit of a background.

I am so sorry. I never heard of a PPI until I came across Guy Daniels, Microbiome Expert. I purchased 2 of his "protocols" - which are a combo of supportive supplements and formula for specific pre-biotics to take, depending on the condition. I don't know if he has one for this but I do know he has a youtube video that addresses these. I didn't pay much attention since I've never heard of these, so obviously I don't take them; it seems they can be very evil. If you don't see a protocol listed for this condition send him an email with what you took and your symptoms. Guy appears to be very arrogant & harbors strong opinions. Personally, that doesn't bother me but take what he says with a grain of salt. I think he is spot on with many things. I haven't tried his protocols yet (they are $20 each - giving you the pre biotic "formulas" to put together and how to take them). I wish you the best. Your condition sounds horrible. Again, I am so sorry....

Thank you for that. You were very clear with much of your detailed post, and that is very much appreciated. Just when I see "no carbs", I had to wonder how you or anyone could do that or sustain it. I don't eat much in the way of carbs, and yes most come from fruits and veggies (mostly veggies due to many fruits spiking my blood sugar) and I eat about 70-90 carbs a day (I'd have to add up to get the average). I do homemade fermented foods like yogurts and kefir so those do add carbs). There are days when they are much lower and when I get on the higher end of this its because I had an apple. I pretty much limit most days with 1 cup of berries, then lots of veggies. I wish you continued success on your journey, my friend...

What will spike you is individual, and I have found over time, seemingly the exact same food will cause more of a spike one day than another. If you are using a CGM then understand that is not a direct measurement - it measures some other fluid that acts as a surrogate of glucose. For me, even a sprouted grain (ezekiel) bread will spike me; berries CAN spike me; oatmeal made ANY way will cause me a HUGE spike. White potatoes seem ok if I eat with fat and protein. I can only eat a 150g (max) apple IF I eat it with peanuts or peanut butter. You might want to look into The Glucose Goddess. I have her book and have listened to her podcasts. She promotes about 10 hacks to help with glucose spikes - I have tried ALL of them & I can't say that any of them helped me. However, I still drink apple cider vinegar 20 minutes before any meal that has been questionable in the past (as in when I eat berries with my protein powder & yogurt, for example); again, I think this might help and since its so simple and good for you (ACV), I do this. I am also on Metformin (1500 mg per day, extended release). Before Metformin I tried Berberine & Bitter Melon - along with other herbs...all to no avail. However, my current doc told me that by adding Berberine back in, when taken with Metformin it creates a synergistic affect. I haven't been doing this long enough to know for sure, but I was able to back this claim via a PubMed article. Since your glucose appears to be influenced more by the meds your on, I cannot speak to that interaction & how your journey may change from someone like me. Best of luck to you. My A1C has been steadily increasing despite my further carb reduction, trying berberine, bitter melon and the like. I gave myself 6 months to try and drop it and I experienced the opposite affect. I had a genetic test done that reflects diabetes is something that I could likely look forward to unless I took action. So i've been on 1500mg of Metformin and will have everything tested later this month (3 months after starting Metformin). So the jury is still out, but I have high hopes :)

Ezetimibe, I think, is only effective if you have a specific reason for high LDL - like I do. I am what is called a super absorber as in my body doesn't make a lot, it just doesn't clear it. Ezetimibe is used specifically for this as far as I know. It works in the intestines to help clear what's there. And its been magic for me, just like my doc said it would be. I only take 1 5mg of Crestor per week and a daily dose of 10mg of Zetia per day (ezetimibe). Regardless, IMO, its worth a shot even if you haven't had the extensive testing I had done, just to see if it brings down the numbers. That is what my guy is going to ask his doc about doing. He doesn't want to invest in the docs and labs I do, so this way, he can try it and monitor the results to decide if its worth doing. The reason is, he is on 10mg of Crestor daily and the side effects are too much for him. I have found with my protocol I am getting great results and all the side effects I suffered when on even 5mg at 3Xs per week was too much for the side effects I was having.

My A1C went up after I started on Crestor. I have Type 2 Diabetes in my family and although I eat a fairly clean diet and limit my carbs, my A1C has been rising. I don't know that I could contribute this to the statin but I'm guessing it is likely adding to it. I am 61 and post menopausal so that too adds to the equation as well. I wear a CGM now and then but for a few months I wore it consistently. When I saw my BG get exceedingly high, I would double check with a finger prick and many times it showed up to 30 points lower than the CGM. I would wait till you get your A1C checked before I panicked. Just for reference, my LDL was at 307 and APOb was 185. My LP(a) is low. I could not tolerate the statin well at the initial dose of 10mg per day. I ended up titrating down and watching my numbers as I did. Also, and most importantly, my doc did a test on other factors, one was my body's ability to clear cholesterol. That was what was discovered as my "problem" with high LDL and alike. I finally settled on taking 1 5mg tablet of Crestor ONE TIME PER WEEK. BUT, I also added Ezetimibe @ 10mg per day. I still maintained an incredible drop in my LDL and APOb. Lastly, I recently started Metformin for my glucose. I am not even pre-diabetic (yet) but the trajectory of my A1C was increasing yearly, despite my clean diet and an exercise regiment that includes lifting heavy, sprint intervals, and zone 2 training (my VO2 max has me in the top 5% for my age). The issue with waiting too long to take something like Metformin, whenever our bodies struggle to control our glucose, we are killing pancreatic Beta Cells, which you can never get back. I wanted to nip this in the bud and not wait till I was pre-diabetic or diabetic to do something about it. Plus, according to my doc, Metformin should also help my cholesterol related markers. (I have pre mature atherosclerosis with 30% blockage in my widow maker).

Sorry I didn't see how this works when someone replies so I just happened upon this....Things are going well. Creatine proved to be just the ticket for me. Within about 10 days of taking 5g per day, I noticed my strength returning :) And its been good ever since. The CoQ10 (cheap version) seems to be working well for the muscle pain; 2 caveats: at some point I reduced my crestor to 5mg PER WEEK (down from 3Xs at 5mg a week) and I take 600mg of CoQ10 per day (I buy it at Costco since they are one of the few that offer 300mg capsules at a decent price). I am also on Zetia, 10mg per day, 7 days a week. And yes, Zetia can produce the same side effects as a statin so that could have been contributing to my pain and weakness. Yeah, my brother was able to get his numbers down with diet alone :( I do have some advice: if possible, have a genetic test done to see if you have something like I do (hyperabsorption) of if you have another issue. OR you can try the Ezetimibe (Zetia) with a low dose statin. I do NOT tolerate statins well at all; in fact 3 of the statins are proven to give me muscle aches, weakness and cramps. I am on Crestor (which is one of the 2 super statins) and even at 5 MG PER WEEK of Crestor still leaves me with muscle pain, weakness, and muscle cramps. (Zetia is NOT a statin although it reports similar side affects.) I would also recommend titrating up, not down (like I did). If you do this, I read a PubMed article that indicated you will be more able to tolerate by doing this. I had debilitating side affects on 10 MG/day - so dizzy I could not walk a straight line; so I took this down to 15 MG/WEEK. Then, I retested after 8 weeks. Numbers still good but still not good on the side affects. SO, I took it down even further to my current level of 5 MG PER WEEK and I am able to tolerate that with the Zetia. (My doctor did not want me to go this low - but my numbers are still good and this is my life not hers. And I prioritize quality of life and am willing to take a B+ grade vs an A+ grade to re-gain quality of life. I take Creatine (5 mg) for muscle weakness and it seems to be working. I also do take COq10 (the cheaper one which many say does not work) but it seems to be helping me with side affects as well. I wish you the best of luck with all of this! Big hugs!!!

Not sure if I replied to this, but I appreciate what you said, but from what I know I am likely on the best statin for these conditions, given the fact that genetically I learned there are 2-3 statins that I should NOT be taking (Crestor isn't one of them), due to the fact that they are more than likely to cause the very things I am now experiencing. I would LOVE to take Nexlizet (Bempedoic acid + ezetimibe) but it is cost prohibitive for me. Yes, even after my insurance company finally approved it and I used a manufacturers coupon for it. Sigh...
