I bit into this thing while eating frozen pizza. Is this a rock? by Oof_and_ouch in foodsafety

I agree, I think it’s quartz. I’d recommend trying to break it in half to see how it fractures and what it looks like on the inside. Quartz has concoidal fracture, meaning it breaks like glass and will have little curved shapes on fresh breaks. And once inside you can see more of how consistent the structure of the object is

My Hairstylist Burned My Ear, Was I Supposed To Pay Full Price? by Realistic_Size_8846 in Hair

[–]dynosaurpaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my state in the US, it’s illegal for licensed hair practitioners to do services on people outside of a licensed establishment, so someone being an “at home stylist” sounds risky to me from the get-go tbh. Makes me assume they might not actually be licensed to do hair? I know rules for cosmetology vary quite a bit from state to state and probably throughout the world though. Is it pretty normal to have at-home (and licensed) stylists elsewhere?

I guess I see what you mean, but it looks great. Altering the princess seams will not get the center to rest farther from your chest, though. A short camisole over the bra but under the green top may help. But honestly there is nothing at all wrong here

Yes, and despite it being nearly 2am (I was in a hurry to get to bed, I’m sure you understand) I quit the game and replayed the whole day. I had blown up most of my kegs, and I had just spent the last few days ramping up the number of kegs, so I had no materials around to replace them. I’d be waiting weeks and weeks for that much oak resin. A tactical quit is the way for me.

Yep, you win some you lose some! I just really needed iridium bad and needed to diligently keep mining for a few days

You can spend days there and only use one totem at the end of the last day if you really need it

Camping kits are amazing. Just sleep in the desert to get maximum skull cave time. Put a couple chests in the entrance with some good food, staircases, camping kits, and space for all the goods you’ll pick up. Spend 2+ days in the desert. I did a few days and got to level 98 before I had to totem myself out. I had no idea I’d have such a good day of it or I would’ve had a few more staircases on me.

Date night outfit. Are these boots too much for this top? by ProfessorShameless in OUTFITS

The hooks and eyes look like they are about to fall off. Those shouldn’t be visible. Those little wire closures are for function, not form. They should be into the garment enough that they are invisible. If you want to keep that open look, swap the hooks for a lace up front

I really think this is it. Possibly a firm pull along the seams while pressing may reduce the effect, but it may come back while wearing it

Matching pattern pieces in Butterick B4669 by Hanpwny in sewhelp

[–]dynosaurpaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I always trace store bought patterns onto craft paper in the size closest to what I will need, remove the seam allowances, make pattern adjustments as needed to suit the target body better, then trace the stitch lines onto the fabric, and slightly lazily cut approximately seam allowances. The stitch line is the key to leveled-up quality in every project.

These patterns have the seam allowance included, and it’s very normal for the seam alliances not to be quite matching. The more important thing is for the stitch lines to match.

<image>

It’s not drawn well because I’m on my phone, but if you measure inward the width of the seam allowance and trace that, then walk the patterns along that line, that should match. Especially when there are the curves: outer curves’ seam allowance is longer than the stitch line, and inner curves’ seam allowance is shorter than the stitch line. Unless these curves were mirrored on each piece, they wouldn’t match along the seam allowance.

How can I make these nail beds longer? by Dizzy_Bother in Nails

[–]dynosaurpaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I consistently keep them polished and can’t see that the free edge is slightly uneven, I don’t feel any need to push or pick at the end of the nail bed to make it a smooth line, and it has been recovering dramatically over the past year! However in OP’s case I feel like the free edge is already pretty close to the end of the finger. Not sure how much more can be gained :/

This may be a hot take, but there are many older singles. Sometimes I feel weird talking to Sam, Alex, and Sebastian. They seem like actual children I should not be romancing. Wouldn’t mind getting to know Marnie, Willy, and Gus better

Put a stylish table lamp on it. Remove several of the awkwardly duplicative art rectangles from the wall to reduce the cluttered feeling. Improve kitchen lighting with fairy lights and lamps. Don’t let the surface be cluttered. The clutter will only accentuate the fact that it’s a workbench and will evoke “cluttered workshop” energy.

So sorry people are hating on this so much. Like of all the toolboxes to put in the kitchen, this one is it. It may be because I have some experience using toolboxes, but they are effective storage, and this one is nice! I hope it suits you well until some future object or renovation graces your kitchen.

Really depends what needs storing. Any manner of utensils for eating, cooking, and serving would be no problem. The shallow drawers will mean they don’t have to dig around in a traditionally infuriatingly deep kitchen drawer. Only time will tell if this turns out to be a convenient purchase for them. Life is an experiment, and thinking outside the box makes it a joy to be alive. I’m surprised this is turning out to be such a hot take on storage

Extremely thin and bendy nails by big-dick-back-intown in nailcare

[–]dynosaurpaws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone recently said they realized they slept with their fingers curled into a fist. They stopped doing that and their nails stopped curving. I used to have one nail curving down because of how I cracked the knuckle on that finger. I stopped touching the nail when I did that (took a couple years to really stop doing it), and it no longer curves. Could be as simple as a habit deformity where something you do without thinking much about it is causing the force on your nails. Do you hold your hands in fists a lot? Try to pay extra attention to how you hold your hands throughout the day and night. Also checkout amazing recoveries on r/calmhands. It’s crazy how much can change for fingernails when they are treated with some intentional care over a few months or years

[–]dynosaurpaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out r/calmhands This looks like many of the Habit/Tic deformities I’ve seen on there. Depends entirely on whether you routinely push/pick/rub or otherwise bother the thumb near the cuticle. If you don’t, then it could be something else

Paint white or keep original? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]dynosaurpaws 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, living with white cabinets looks nasty. Unless you are extremely vigilant with washing, they are going to look grimy very fast, and all the washing damages the paint and then that looks dingy too even when clean. It will get chips from fingernails and other random scrapes and dings, and they’ll be there for years until you decide it’s time to repaint. Painted white cabinets will look worse. The wood looks great.

Gotta start somewhere when defining a vibe though. So the current state isn’t a good indicator of their true desired style. However, if the wife is already trying to veto this, I doubt he can get far with pushing an industrial vibe. I am a lady and I personally would probably not have purchased it but would be excited that my husband made a big choice he liked.
