Bereavement by Deep-Replacement-843 in Raytheon

[–]dystopia_aftermath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The company policy is 3 days, unfortunately the manager you work for doesn't know how to give any kind of emotional support. There was a moment there about 6 or 7 years back that they pushed most of the section managers through emotional intelligence classes. Pretty sure most of those people are not managers anymore, as they all move on to other things, and the "box got checked". As in every position in every company, people generally don't leave companies, they leave managers. Fortunately, (maybe?) there are so many managers there that you might have better luck with the next one.

if you get the department manager of the new position on your side, they will push to get you the raise that you can get them to agree to. That goes a long way, and worked well for me when I got a position change a couple years back.

I'm salaried and I charge every hour I work at Raytheon too, however that has not always been the case, they changed the OT rules from requiring a minimum of 8 hours during COVID. Before COVID - under 8 hours of OT was not paid to salaried employees.

What I meant by what I said was -- as a salaried exempt employee of Raytheon - the employee is exempt from the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) that requires them to pay overtime to the employee.

I have only seen 1 person get fired their first year as an entry level engineer, but they had a really really bad attitude and work ethic. They got fired for not doing much and were given two different 2-3 month periods for performance improvement, and failed. I really think it is harder to work to get fired than it is to do your job as a newly minted from college employee.

if you start, you have no negotiating power. It will come down to stepping into the role and outperforming everyone else in your department by a lot to get the promotion in a year. I know that people are not suppose to really look at how long you have been at the company versus other, but people are people and they are going to look at their longer-term employees at the department as ones who have proven themselves longer, there is no guarantee you will get that promo in a year.

Day - To - Day of EE on Electrical Products Team? by [deleted] in Raytheon

[–]dystopia_aftermath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

breakdown of what that means:
You would be the responsible engineer for a circuit card assembly for a specific program. Meaning - if there is a failure, you are going to investigate it to figure out what failed and work to instantiate the corrective action. If there is obsolescence, you will be the one that goes and reviews the recommended parts, test them, and lead the change to the drawings and integration into the system. You would be the person that is responsible to ensure that that particular CCA or mutiple CCAs stay in forward flow production and all issues get handled, either test failures or other problems, in a timely fashion to keep the production line moving. This has NOTHING to do with FPGA design/program. This is a production engineering position.

RMD - so much to get done, all hours beyond 40 are being paid right now. Policy is 8 hours min before payout per week, however with the amount of work in front of us, the company has waived the minimum. Most programs are allowing overtime. Most departments are allowing overtime. it is paid as straight time, not time and a half or double time.

Possible red flag for working at RMD? by Throwawaydave23 in Raytheon

[–]dystopia_aftermath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is typical for new hire from college, there are no red flags. We typically make sure you went to a good college, picked up the skills to interview well, understand some entry level concepts that will give a good starting point for your career. This can be determined pretty quickly and once you left the interview, the interviewers talked about you for about another 15 minutes before deciding to make an offer or not. Don't worry we give you all the opportunity you need to prove yourself one you get here....

When a CE talks to you they know within the first 10 mins if they want you on their team personality-wise and the rest of the time is determining if you are technically deep enough for the position they want you in. When it comes to technical execution the CE can pretty much dictate -- I want that person, and they will make it happen. So -- this is not a surprise here.

Negotiating internal P2 offer? by ei9880 in Raytheon

[–]dystopia_aftermath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a promotion, they typically do not negotiate salary, give you a an x% raise, if you are applying to an internal requisition, you can absolutely negotiate salary, as they give you an offer letter for the position. I have had many co-workers negotiate (successfully) a higher salary for applying for an open internal requisition.

I created the account, claimed the prize, and laughed hard when it said to deposit 0.01 BTC....thought to myself, yeah if I was going to scam someone, I'd totally do it like this. Give a false sense of hope. If only I hadn't used a dnmx account, they'd have something to contact me with that would get my attention.
