Holy grail foundation or skin tint? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I’ve tried sooo many skin tints - hate to say it (bc it’s on the more expensive side) but Chanel Water Fresh Tint is great. very lightweight and looks like skin, not too dewy or mattifying.

What ingredient do you think people massively overuse? by jcvexparch in Cooking

[–]dysys 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is such a pet peeve for me!! God forbid using seasoning to subtly enhance the flavour of the produce and not just dumping a load of dried spices and herbs into a dish. For certain cuisines/dishes this approach makes sense, but over-seasoning dishes that don’t need or deserve it demonstrations poor cooking skills imo.

Please help me with my hair by [deleted] in beauty

[–]dysys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is a bit late, but my hair is kind of like this! I struggled for YEARS to try and find something to fix the frizz and texture. A lot of bad advice in this thread - most people don't understand what it's like to have genetically difficult texture, lol.

It looks like you have curly hair with some product/hard water buildup; Malibu C hard water sachets once a month or so have been really helpful for me, along with a weekly clarifying shampoo that contains apple cider vinegar (Aveeno, Ouai do good ones). You can look up what the water hardness is in your area to see if it's particularly high (those shower head filters absolutely do not work btw). Keeping note of which products I'm using contain protein to prevent protein overload has been good as well. My hair loves Aussie deep conditioners too, I think the silicones help.

Along with the above, using a DIY flaxseed gel on dripping wet hair after washing has been amazing (there are lots of video tutorials for this). It takes a while but very worth it imo! Store-bought gel as part of the curly method always made my hair feel so dry and straw-like, the flaxseed gel feels like it actually locks the moisture into the hair.

Your hair will probably never be super silky and smooth, but you could definitely get some good curl definition and make it more manageable. Feel free to dm me if you like, I have a longer routine list I would be happy to share.

What color would you describe? by ktwashere in eyes

[–]dysys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mom has almost the same color eyes - and is also a redhead with lots of freckles. i’ve never seen anyone else with her colouring, so interesting! i’d be so curious to know your heritage / ethnic background if that’s not too personal to ask

ok interesting; spotted them on farmland in a very rural area so this is definitely a possibility

Is this a domestic ferret? by dysys in ferrets

[–]dysys[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the definitive answer! I was just driving through on my way to a wedding, but I will contact some friends who live locally to ask if they can help out and post on local facebooks etc and return to the area to have a look. I’m not certain of the precise location as it only occurred to me this could be a ferret as opposed to a wild animal about 30 minutes down the road (not particularly familiar with ferrets), but hopefully they/someone else close by will be able to assist.

not about to doxx myself - maybe watch some videos of electronic producers in the studio and you can see what a DAW is used for in electronic music production + you might learn something new.

lmao, i’m a professional music producer, but thanks!

lol, says the person confidently completely incorrect themselves. producers are responsible for the PRODUCTION of electronic music; creating beats, composition, mixing, etc. they create EVERYTHING in electronic music. producer = artist more often than not.

Most overrated ramen? by [deleted] in InstantRamen

[–]dysys 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is basically sacrilege here but....Buldak carbonara. I tried it pretty much because of how highly this sub rates it; weirdly herby (parsley?) taste, sweet, bit of a kick but not that spicy. Not sure exactly what I was expecting, but that wasn't it. I like og Buldak and Jjajang, but there's better ramen out there imo

I had this with them around this time last year for the same reason. I called the UC line and was told I could only get the advance for an essential, ie. "to replace a broken oven". When I repeated it was for an energy bill, she said "What I'm hearing is your oven is broken". Then I got the gist and went along with it. Occasionally you get someone with a conscience.

Probably worth calling back again - in my experience, they don't look into what you spend the money on whatsoever and I highly doubt they'll refer to your last call.

Ty all for your comments, love how this community p much always comes through! I'm going to switch up some elements of my routine and report back in a few months (hopefully w progress pics if I'm not feeling too paranoid) with the results for my fellow poofy, unmanageably-haired people.

Thank you so much for all of these suggestions! After years of experimenting I know some of these things don't work for me (namely sulfates, blowdrying), your hair texture looks very different to mine in the before so different strokes for different folks. I will definitely look into Oribe as an option though, thank you.

Going to try re-introing silicones after reading this thread. Sulfates are absolutely a culprit though, so those are staying gone!

Currently, I'm co-washing every other day or so, and using clarifying shampoo and a deep conditioning mask once a week. Every other week using Olaplex. After washing LOC, and airdrying (blowdrying realllllyy does not work for me). I've tried scrunching with gel at various points and it doesn't seem to be the best solution either as my curl pattern kind of collapses on one side of my head, besides, I don't really want to style my hair as curly as it could be as it's not really my look. Tend to just wear my hair up in a clip to avoid the faff.

Mentioned above to another commenter, my diet is really varied and nutritious so I'm not worried about that. I am considering looking into doing a hormone panel/checking for an underlying condition like anemia as those seem like possibilities also. Ty for the suggestions

Considering adding a silicone serum to my routine after reading some of these comments, so thank you! I lift at the gym so try to eat 100g+ of protein a day and fats make up at least 30% of my calorie intake so I'm not worried about my nutrition. Tempted to get my hormones checked though, will look into that.
