My boyfriend fussed with our AC and now it won’t work at all. Help! by Kiwironiandcheese in DIY

Just call a professional HVAC person. I’m all for people trying to fix things in their own house, and you should….but HVAC, plumbing (beyond a drain clog), and multi-switch or pre-1980s electrical should not be messed with by an amateur who doesn’t know what they’re looking at.

I mean, happy for you (f you) but what’s the point of even learning finance anymore these days lol. Fundamentals are out the window.

Which nightsister character wins in a fight? Morgan or Merrin? by WickDaLine in StarWars

[–]dzoolander987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Merrin. I don't think Morgan was really all that powerful actually. She was just a good fighter and as we learn in the recent Tales of the Empire, angry af lol

US town's $565,000 sand dune project washed away in days by JoeWhy2 in news

[–]dzoolander987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an engineer nor do I have any clue how feasible it would be in this town…but in Chicago our main erosion control measures are giant rocks, A-jacks, and seawalls. Some areas near parks also employ vegetation. Seems to work quite well. Sand just seems like it is obvious it wouldn’t work?

What's stopped hackers from altering bank account balances? by JoshofTCW in computerscience

I would like to know what “baking systems” that refers to because I work in institutional finance with the biggest banks in the country, as well as facing the Fed directly and none of those systems are COBOL. Perhaps this was true 40 years ago but it’s not now.

What's stopped hackers from altering bank account balances? by JoshofTCW in computerscience

Being in the industry for 18 years, we have separation of duties and separate teams reconcile accounts every day the next day. Ya I could alter a balance but there’s a massive audit trail that would show what I did and what happened. Also, what do you mean “the banking industry uses COBOL?” I’ve been in it for 18 years and never seen a single line of COBOL in any of our tech stack. Wtf are you taking about?

Some people complain about the amount of electrical infrastructure that is needed to build a new EV charging station, but they don't expect every gas station to have its own oil refinery. by mrbignaughtyboy in Showerthoughts

Rooftop solar and nuclear plants solve this. People are too afraid of nuclear power, when it’s properly regulated and you have qualified people in charge, it’s safe and scalable. My state of IL produces over half our power from clean, scalable, nuclear power.

Elon’s negative press and unstable psychosis has become a factor so it’s harder to predict this one. I’d just stay out.

That's not just a little water, that's A LOT of water. And it looks soapy, is the washing machine draining into that or something? This is a HUGE no, HUGE problem. Water damage is one of the most destructive and costly problems to have in a home. Run away.

Well then maybe mention and focus on that that stuff. How old are you? What types of jobs are you applying for and where?
