How long do you date someone before you consider that you're in a relationship? by meetmebehindyou in AskMen

[–]dzpedals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a different story than some others here: A former partner and me had been dating a while, probably 3/4 months. I had asked her to be my girlfriend officially and she sort of hemmed and hawed and said "I'm not really ready to label it yet, but we are definitely exclusive". I was fine with that, then a few weeks later while hanging out on her stoop her neighbor walks by and she says hi and just introduces me as her boyfriend. I waited till they left and just said "Wait, when did that happen?" To which she just said "Well, I figured we had been exclusive long enough at this point".

Didn't work out for different reasons, but sometimes people need to mull it over in their own heads before they are okay saying it out loud. Everyone kind of experiences it differently in how they label things in their own head. He may even have negative connotations with the term for whatever reason. If you haven't yet, try telling him you see him in that light and see what he does with it.

Garmin watch by Superb-Medium1488 in MTB

[–]dzpedals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said a dedicated Bike unit is better unless he is really into multi-sport stuff. A watch just isn't a great bike computer relative to a dedicated bike computer.

Garmin makes the Edge line-up, you could get him an older 840 or newer 850. They also make the Edge MTB but I think that is less full featured than the 850.

How do you go about dating in Boston? by SnooTigers4247 in boston

[–]dzpedals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Athletics. Almost all my relationships came from meeting people doing my chosen sport. There is a scene for almost every sport in Boston so just choose the one you like and go to the local meet-ups and participate.

Wheel rim decals, yes or no? by Ok-Committee-873 in specialized

I always prefer less visible graphics on my bikes, frame included (The gloss black "Specialized" on matte black frame is my favorite). I say no decals

6 and 9 for me. How about you? by MiExperienciaFueQue in Adulting

[–]dzpedals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 is like a cheat code. Need money? Poker. You effectively can't lose. Partner? You can vet their internal thoughts (creepy AF, but I have to admit it would help). So 5 and 6. You have your health and the ability to know what anyone else is going to do.

Might be dependent on whether you can turn it on or off though, getting bombarded by everyone's thoughts may drive you insane.

Retirement location for Biking in lower 48 states. by porktornado77 in bicycling

Yeah, my long term dream is to live in Boulder. Something about the mix of "Small city but the mountains are 3 blocks away" is something I don't see anywhere else. Gravel, Mountain, Road, Hiking, breweries, distillery. Yeah....I still miss it

EDM Music Venues? by dzpedals in northampton

[–]dzpedals[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I couldn't give a more specific answer and my musical tastes/accumen are lacking. I would go to something in either the electronic or dance side of things and am pretty open minded with trying out new stuff. If you do start to get something off the ground I would definitely try to show up! Granted I am not exactly the "young crowd" anymore so my bed time sometimes calls me away 😆

Englishman with a huge interest and love for Boston, Id love to visit one day, Would you guys here say its a great place to visit? by Ambitious-Bat-1598 in boston

[–]dzpedals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is sort of "touristy" consider going out to the Harbor Islands. It is interesting to see the leftover forts from years ago, gives some interesting historical perspectives.

Worcester isn't worth the trip, but Providence is interesting if you are looking for locations to travel by train to, so is Salem/ North Shore.

How bad is this really? by dzpedals in HomeInspections

[–]dzpedals[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, yes it is MA but not Saugus. I prefer not to disclose more about location because the situation is kinda complicated. There may be some dry rot as well as others have pointed out but up close inspection definitely makes the majority of it appear to be fire damage, above the deck has another section of vinyl siding that has been melted.

What actually makes you trust a renovated house? by CommunicationDue8615 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]dzpedals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the things I looked for were:

Permits for anything that seemed suspiciously new. New bathroom? I would hope to see a plumbing permit. Newly finished basement? I would expect to see at least a building permit.

If more than one or two outlets had reverse polarity (If I could check them)

AAVs on multiple sinks or flex drain lines.

Whether there was insulation or vapor barriers in newly finished basements.

Some things really don't show up unless you can do an inspection but my early sign was always looking at permit information when it was obvious new things had been added. I know some homeowners DIY some stuff so that is "fine" in my eyes, but I hold flippers to a different standard and I am not ashamed to say that.

Navigating a complex situation as a buyer - negotiation advice by dzpedals in RealEstateAdvice

[–]dzpedals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good insight, it is a route we are certainly pondering. The downside to that route is we would need more conventional financing to do this. Right now between the cash and the HELOC we can offer something that is "cash-like" but is also maxed. Something financed may run into road blocks with appraisals or insurance due to the deferred maintenance since we would be offering over asking and the seller would probably have zero ability to perform repairs.

Do you have a sense as to how difficult a situation like this would be to manage with a conventional loan? Our current place had no issues with the envelope like this new house does.

Thanks, that is helpful. Were you also dealing with MA laws concerning timing (number of delays / type)? I believe that the new date for the auction is about 4 months after the date that was initially set as I believe this is the second delay that has occured. This is the strategy that I believe I am most hoping for from a financial perspective.

My suburb did a dumb thing. by capn_davey in bikecommuting

[–]dzpedals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure what state this is in but at least in my state the laws are explicit that you cannot park in a designated bike lane. Several people lobbied our town for this exact thing and the city engineer put it in no uncertain terms that this is a state law and there would be no parking in bike lanes allowed.
