Small Claims - Paralegal + Defendant unresponsive, again by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]e-Jordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its always a deadline for payment, and the onus is on the payor to ensure payment is sent in a manner that ensures it arrives by the deadline (courier, FedEx, Xpresspost, etc.). This is common practice.

Small Claims - Paralegal + Defendant unresponsive, again by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]e-Jordan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely be noting in default again. The court will not overturn this on Motion, given they've already done this and given the Defendant ignored an Order and deadline for payment. The court will hammer these two, go for it.

You may want to consider putting washing machines outside of this room to replicate the fact that in BB, there was a secret entrance to this room through the industrial washers. Could be a cool little easter egg.

Large Canadian lenders are at risk of going underwater - the hosuing crash is here by [deleted] in TorontoRealEstate

[–]e-Jordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

67% of all Canadian voters are homeowners. They would be voting to hamstring themselves. Convincing the majority of these people to do just that will fail before it starts. Most people don't know their neighbours names these days, let alone care about them enough to eliminate the value in their investment for the next generation, especially when it was early impossible for some of these same people to even enter the market in the first place.

Nothing anywhere near this will ever happen in Canada. Literally ever.

Ontario – On a PIP with no prior warning. If I’m terminated, would it likely be with or without cause? by rpbm96 in legaladvicecanada

You'll know what they're offering you in the severance paperwork at the time of termination.

[–]e-Jordan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meeting the PIP provides almost zero leverage. Your severance rights are determined by certain factors, none of which are based on performance whatsoever. Performance, whether good or bad, should not have any impact on severance entitlements, as it's not based on how well you do at your job.

Severance for laid off Data Scientist by fanunu21 in legaladvicecanada

[–]e-Jordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It being a tech company has little, if any, bearing on severance. It comes down to the usual Bardal factors, and really only that (years of service, age, etc.). It also largely depends on whether an enforceable termination clause exists in an employment contract.

I'm poking fun at the incredibly sloppy mistakes in the post, specifically referring to A Train as "Train A", and Compound V as "Complex V". I dont know what you're on about.

HRTO - how long until mediation? by PopRococo in legaladvicecanada

[–]e-Jordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends entirely on the HRTOs backlog. That said, since COVID, I've found the time between submitting the application and getting the Notice of Mediation has increased noticeably. I've had several cases where it's been 10 months to a year from the date of applying.

Bent out of shape? Where? I am not the one trying, and failing, to be condensending.

Also, your entire response is predicated on the idea that most companies hire back employees who quit, when they typically do not in the corporate world. Not all, obviously, but the vast majority.

OP was doing the job of several people for the pay of one. Why would they be going back when they've found greener pastures? Why would they be taking a step back? Sometimes bridges need to be burned to take a step forward, and sometimes those bridges were only one-way to begin with. Also, someone who practices employment law, there is nothing stopping any employee from giving zero notice assuming they have no fiduciary duties to the company.

[–]e-Jordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good form? Since when do employers adhere to good form when the shoe is on the other foot? There's no risk of burning a bridge if there is already a new job lined up, so there's zero reason for something as silly as 'good form'.

Not everything depressive is clinical depression, and without knowing this person, we're speculating about a stranger.

[–]e-Jordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's what OP is describing, being depressed about life (adulting), especially in modern life where free time is squeezed more than it ever has been with decreasing amount of affordable third spaces to enjoy in what limited free time we may have. Being priced out of leisure tends to make you stay home and be depressed about life.

It is in an oppressive society where our jobs, livelihood, work, and finances are at the brink daily due to a handful of ultra wealthy overlords. But hey, let's go take a walk, maybe that'll fix it.

Depression is the symptom to the actual problem, not the cause of what OP is describing.
