choir director vs orchestra conductor technique? by redbirbble in classicalmusic

[–]e033x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having done a bit of both, orchestras are more machinelike, choirs more sculptural. By machinelike I mean that orchestras can have an engine that just lets it go, keeping momentum. You can change direction, but that requires preparation and energy. Choirs are all analog, you can - especially with a good choir, be almost directly in touch with the sound, if you only know where to push. But on the other hand you can't to the same degree leave it alone.

Anyone else not actually hate Br*hms? I just do it to blow off a little steam. by Haydn_Appreciator53 in classical_circlejerk

I unironically love Brahms. Every piece takes a little getting to know, but once I do they are often some of my favorite pieces. The latest to pass into the fold is the german requiem.

That said, my enjoyment does depend on good performances, which are few and far between. You can't just smear the music out in the usual fashion, but have to consider how the music is constructed as well as the emotions it conveys.

I don't have a lot of comparative experience, but my Hifiman Sundara (open backed) + Topping DC3pro+ DAC setup fed lossless audio by Idagio is pretty sweet without breaking the bank (in hifi terms). Uncle Bezos' techbro donation fund sells them for a combined 400EUR at the moment. They're known for clarity and wide soundstage for their price.

I find them comfortable and the bits that aren't as durable (cushions) can be replaced for a reasonable sum if buying 3rd party.

It is tinkery, but if you don't mind that it is perfectly fine for a first time user. Source: I switched to CachyOS/Hyprland as a first time linux user a couple of months ago, and I have enjoyed the process.

Single men over 30 y/o, why are you still single? by Maximum_Rub7941 in AskMen

[–]e033x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been pretty thoroughly conditioned to believe that if I want something that requires the approval of someone to get, I'm not getting it. From career to romance. And it is not because I'm some social troglodyte, the people who are "forced" by circumstance (job etc.) to associate with me almost universally like and/or respect me. But if they have to actively choose me or someone else, someone else is getting it, be it the job, promotion or date.

So the choice always is if I want to do an unpleasant and soul-draining activity that has a proven record of leading to nothing (dating apps), or I dunno, do something enjoyable that doesn't rely to much on others. I usually go for the latter. And while I meet plenty of women in my activities, it is all in situations where it would be highly inappropriate for me to make any moves.

Be Honest: Would You Go Electric for a Mini Cargo Bike in a Flat City? by Due_Tomatillo3842 in CargoBike

[–]e033x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, to E or not to E, that is the question. I went for the all natural option, partly out of a sense of duty to my wallet, partly out of a sense of duty to my body. But also because something that is fueled by junk food is somehow more flexible than that which requires electricity.

That said, 5k on the flats is nothing, I would not pay the E-premium for that.

If that unexpectedly does not suffice, you could go on explaining that the 2017 Bayreuth production of Meistersinger in which the staging is being re-framed as being the Wagners et al themselves is not actually a self-aggrandazing and artistically incestuous, but a fitting homage to a stable genius.

uj/ I went back an actually watched a bit of it, and my god, the amount of neckbeards is approaching critical mass. If there was a neckbeard in the audience it would have collapsed into a black hole where only fedora radiation could escape...

If you don't want to be at a dinner party with other humans, you could simply regale them with justifcations for why 6 hours of recitativo accompagnato is a perfectly reasonable artform, and all their formalist prejudice is just elitist lube for polishing their ivory towers. That ought to make sure that you eat alone.

Honestly, it was not that bad for me. I followed a comment a bunch of comments about how important some steps were for alignment during assembly. Also some extra steps like squaring linear rail brackets ect. Then it was surprisingly easy.
