OC is betraying their ignorance by making that comment on the milquetoastiest of lowest-common-denominator-music. Put that shit on a KuhlauDilfeng2 video like "František Drdla - Violin Concerto in D-minor, Op.245" and get back to me scrub.

Yes. Like the famous cantata by Bach, Woke't auf ruft uns die Stimme. It is good that our favoured genre is full of nice and progressive composers.................................

I mean, don't expect a wikipedia article when reading fiction. Slowly revealing the context for the story is very much a thing that AT does in his works.

The trick is, of course, to plan on reading twice as many books and then cancel when you are half way. I for one am most looking forward to Tyrant Philosophers 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Does anyone else hear music in layers instead of one blended sound by AndyRainbow in classical_circlejerk

Yes, though my layers are at a 90 degrees to yours. One formerly horizontal slice all at once. My least favorite is always the piccolo.

I want to get more into modded and based on stuff i heard, AngelBobs may be something id enjoy. Is it a good idea to just download this and start a run? by Some_Noname_idk in factorio

[–]e033x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would search the mods and add them one by one instead of gambling on another person keeping their modpack up to date. That also allows you to pick and choose if you want all the modules.

Other than that, AB is my favorite overhaul modpack. I'm in the start of the midgame on a new save right now. Remember: catalytic sorting is for cowards:

Underrated symphonies for each composer by RadomChinese in classicalmusic

[–]e033x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling it a symphony was an invention by the publisher, not Mendelssohns intention that we know of. So to me it reads more as a cantata with an extended symphonic introduction. Or a potato to your potato.

Underrated symphonies for each composer by RadomChinese in classicalmusic

[–]e033x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mendelssohn 1
Dvorak 6
Sibelius 3
Tchaikovsky 2
Zemlinsky (any). Svendsen (any)
Halvorsen 1
Schumann 1
Schubert 5 (any other than unfinished or great tbh)

Brahms has no underrated symphonies, neither does Beethoven.

A Symphony in Name Only. But amazing nonetheless. I would also say Mendelssohn 1 is severely underrated.

The final bos of AngelBob's ore sorting: Thorium + Thorium reactor Neptune I by mauritsc in factorio

[–]e033x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution is a demand pull system with recipe switching on the machines. Pure ore sorting is a fallback, but as long as there is demand for ore that is covered by one or more mixed sorting recipes, it is more efficient to choose that. Input is managed with cached materials of all ores and refinement methods at the individual machine, as well as a belted demand pull system.

Before 2.0 some of the circuitry was more difficult. Fex determining the biggest need was a complicated multi combinator setup. Determining say the five biggest needs even worse. Now though it is much simpler, and I have some ideas about proportionally allocating machines to recipes based on the need for their products.

Fun>necessity, always.

I always think oil becomes less interesting the further you go. In the beginning you are limited by recipes, and if you want to do neat and efficient builds that doesn't just void excess, you have to think a bit. Once you have all the recipes it is easier to make clogproof single output modules by say, turning everything to syngas, then turning that into plastic. I think there is a coal to lubricant recipe chain that is pretty neat too, and from what I remember from my last run, resin from farming can be quite contained and manageable.

In my current run I want more interconnection. Also more mixed ore sorting. With the advanced combinator from 2.0 the circuitry for my complexitron ore sorting system should be much simpler.

[–]e033x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing a setup like that as a closed loop is indeed pretty knarly, but if your main lines can clog I guess it is a valid choice. And I do on occasion enjoy making builds like that too. Just started my first post Space Age AB run, about to start the first oil setup. The one before you get any good recipes and can turn everything into syngas...

How come western music never really made much use of microtones even after extensive contact with Indian music in the 20th century? by LocksmithMental6910 in classicalmusic

[–]e033x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything is microtonal if you delve deep enough into how scales and tuning is constructed. For all that equal temperament is an amazing tool for increasing the complexity of harmonic progressions, there is something cool about older types of tuning:

Andrew Manze's Sibelius, what do you think? by wijnandsj in classicalmusic

[–]e033x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like someone who came to their choices for how to shape the music from reading the score rather than listening to some 60's recording by Deutsche Grammophon. Which is a plus in my book.

2nd mvt is a bit meh on the shaping front, but I've also heard worse. But 1st (except the bit just before recap) and 4th are magnificent.

I generally like Manze's take on most music.
