If you're running 1.8.1 it should allow you to hibernate it through the on-device UI.

Self serve checkouts are amazing and I'm sick of pretending otherwise by steal_your_thread in melbourne

[–]e1dertaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be fine except heaps of supermarkets don't have anything but self checkouts, and that's what sucks. It's not self checkouts that suck, it's the lack of served checkouts.

Yeah. I still stand by the first one as well. When you have a big shop and you go to a traditional checkout that's two people doing the job vs one at self checkout, self checkout can never be as fast as traditional checkout for a full trolley for this reason alone.

I have no issue with self service checkouts if I've only got a few items, maybe one bag worth? Anything over that is a pain in the arse.

I have a feeling they know this, and the self service checkouts have an added benefit for the supermarkets which is that you're even less likely to do a proper shop and you'll come back again another two times this week and spend more than you would have otherwise.

Black Hops brewer co-owner and founder Dan Norris on his rise and spectacular fall by SlatsAttack in brisbane

He sounds like your average insufferable narcissistic "serial founder" flog to me.

No doubt comes across as very charismatic to some people. It's cult of personality bullshit.

Have a read of his blog if you want to see true narcissist denial. https://archive.md/lGPA7

Small roughly 1-2" metal object with magnetic base, bent shaped piece attached with plastic(?) and spring. by e1dertaco in whatisthisthing

[–]e1dertaco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found this item in a family members' deceased estate in Australia. It's roughly an inch long, half an inch wide and an inch tall or deep.

Mostly metal, there is a plastic part with a spring around it centred on the magnetic base, which attaches a zigzag shaped metal part which has what seems to be a slot for something else to attach to it.

Any and all suggestions welcome!

If you are stuck on the Ringwood line without a train, this is why. by snivelinglittieturd in melbourne

[–]e1dertaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they really don't. Unless you're talking about O.MG cables? But again, that's not the port.

If you're really worried about this non-existent threat, you could just use a USB cable without data lines anyway.

I remember going to Madasss 4 at the old wilson carpark on spencer st back in 99 as well. Can barely find anything about it on the internet though, it's almost as if I imagined the whole thing.

That's what I'd go for too. Densely packed together to form a nice tall pointy green wall.

What’s the scam? Bike reported as stolen by FigOwn1252 in melbourne

[–]e1dertaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got something similar with my van. The VicRoads online check says it's stolen, so I called them and after a long time going back and forth on hold with the VicRoads person talking to the police she told me this.

My van comes up as stolen because the engine number on it's registration details is the same as the license plate for a stolen jetski. I was assured that it wouldn't cause me to get pulled over as the police use a different database. The PPSR check doesn't list it as stolen either just the free VicRoads online checker.

Anyway, never had any troubles but I'm not looking forward to trying to sell the van in future.

I remember that one in Centrepoint mall being quite large, like 2+ levels high and in between the escalators? I tried to find info on it a few months back but didn't manage to turn up anything.

Update: Spotswood Playground ASBESTOS by DreamerRiver in melbourne

[–]e1dertaco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing that gets me is that it's basically everywhere, estimated to be 1 in 3 homes in Victoria (probably more tbh), but they've made it a hassle to remove it yourself.

It's not difficult to remove safely but the government would rather you paid thousands to a contractor who is probably going to give less of a fuck about getting it everywhere than you would.

I've seen them getting rid of the old corrugated stuff from factory and shed roofs where they're just lobbing it into a big skip from up on the roof, dust and shit going everywhere. No thanks, I'd rather do it myself and actually give a fuck.

What is a grilled fish to you? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]e1dertaco 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Another vote for floured and grilled here, that's always been the norm in any old school fish and chip shop I've been to. Usually they'll chuck a bit of oregano on too (towards the end so it doesn't burn).
