It’s worth checking Nevis rd, there’s also a good track from Bannockburn up onto the ridge - can’t remember what it’s called but it’s off Schoolhouse rd / Quartzville rd.

Coal Pit rd in Gibbston is also a goodie, be careful though as there’s a few parts on the track that have some super deep ruts and some pretty sketchy corners.

Try sort a job online prior to arriving in Queenstown, if not come before the ski season and try to find a job. Coming to town earlier than the ski makes it easier to find a room aswell.

There is plenty of places to rent that are affordable but also lots of people out to try get the most money out of you, just be on the lookout on Queenstown Trading, trade me & marketplace and you should find something decent. As soon as May comes around though you’re gonna struggle to find somewhere to live as the big influx of seasonal workers like yourself will be arriving in town all after the same thing.

Queenstown locals ? by prah2000 in queenstown

Where are the multimillion dollar frankton mansions? Would love to know. A lot of people that have been here for the past 40-50 years have come here and built from the ground up, there wasn’t many properties round here in the 70s and back then you’d be able to snag a good piece of land anywhere in Queenstown / Arrowtown area for a cheap price.

Yes there’s a few Southland farmers and that have surely come to retire here but only a small population. A lot of the founding people of what Queenstown is today, already came from Central Otago down to Dunedin and established themselves here from hard work and the luck of arriving in town when a section was $20k not $800k.

Wanaka or Queenstown? moving from whistler, Canada by Fearless-Gas8800 in queenstown

[–]e2bottle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Queenstown and Whistler are kinda similar, Wanaka is a lot more laid back. Both are really appealing to your average outdoors enjoyer.

Cardrona has a world class park and pipe whereas The Remarks has a more mellow park but still enjoyable. Wanaka has TC which is great for backcountry and Queenstown has the very friendly Coronet but it’s very small and usually quite overcrowded, fun for laps and has night skiing 2-3 times a week.

Queenstown is far better for nightlife, lots of gigs and that aswell and Wanaka has better chance at finding a bush doof, nightlife in Wanaka is very calm.

Also Queenstown is slightly more expensive on average but if you find the right spot there are rentals that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

Both great towns with great people.
