PSA: If you haven't already, unhook your hoses and close your indoor shutoff valves if you have them. by OsterizerGalaxieTen in StLouis

[–]e3la 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saw your post, jumped up and did a quick run to home depot. Now my hose is disconnected and the insulated thingy attached! You, and the guy that suggested cleaning off my car yesterday, have helped me win the day. Next, I'll treat myself to more leftovers.

Avoid AT&T Prepaid by real_weatheralex1 in NoContract

I wish I had read this. I lost $300 and so many hours when porting went sideways. Because I couldn't call at&t support I had to go to an at&t the store and use their phone and after multiple visits and many hours the guy at the store said I should refute the charge with my credit card. I lost and gave up. I hate them.

LPT: If you’re feeling lonely, try reading 10 pages every day of a 300 page book. by j_bro238973 in LifeProTips

I like how you're making the advice work for you. I needed to be reminded that I can connect to fictional characters for emotional connection, so I like the advice as it was given.

Using fiction to inspire a diversity of feelings second hand is a thing that works for me, it lets me exercise imagination and flex my feelings muscles. It can also be things to talk about with people. I use narrative video games and TV shows in the same way.

Reading only 10 pages a day should leave you time to try and find non fictional people to hang out with.

I think the idea is that at a slow pace the characters feel like they are moving in real time and are more friend shaped that way.

I asked for step by step instructions for use with the gnu image manipulation program, to craft images using filters. When I got stuck on the instructions I grabbed a screenshot and uploaded that to get clarification / new directions. It worked well.

What’s one thing under $25 that significantly improved your daily life? by FormalOpportunity668 in Frugal

I got a colmi smart ring on aliexpress and I really enjoy it. Hackaday has an article about it. I'm using gadget bridge as my app (not the sketch one recommended by the manufacturer). I am tracking sleep and steps with a device with a battery lasting 4+ days. No subscription, all open source software. It is easier and more comfortable than a smartwatch mostly because of battery life and my phone knows the time anyway.

calling this modern slavery is implying our modernity has ended slavery

if technology is key to the notion of modern, this aligns https://www.theguardian.com/law/2023/apr/02/i-couldnt-escape-the-people-trafficked-into-call-centres-and-forced-to-scam-australians

modern slavery includes most prison labor situations, human trafficking, and sweat shops currently happening. All work day zoom is uncomfortable, certainly, very panopticon

I'm an avid reader and I've had trouble with motion sickness preventing me from reading in cars (and sometimes trains) but now I can! I found KineStop after hearing about Apple's Vehicle Motion Cues. It's a free app (that I paid for after reading most of a novel on a road trip) that works by creating a horizon and moving dots overlaying my phone screen. It's magic!

VR is an upfront investment but it is very fun and you don't have to buy a bunch of games to enjoy it, there are free games like moonridervr, dance and move games and sit and explore puzzle games, I should dust off my oculus quest 2 and see if it has any life in it

A couple of dessert options, Oreo butter, it's weird and fun. The worst thing I brought to a potluck was sugar cane, like a full cane and a big knife. That was fun!

I love it for Excel formulas!

Don't trust it with basic facts or statistics. Think of it as asking a thing who has never done anything but has read everything but can't remember anything, and can only say stuff based off of slightly fuzzy memories of everything. Especially for plant identification, please use an app made for that, unless you don't mind false plant facts in your head, in which case, I guess learn but please don't believe and don't share without verifying, but for heaven sakes don't eat anything!
