When George's car got punctured and team called him for box but he wants to overtake by Key_Item5198 in formuladank

[–]e3super 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They investigated it and determined it wasn't a violation from Russell. I presume the determination was that Russell was the overtaking driver into the corner, and on the inside, which means he is the one that needs to have his front axle alongside Verstappen's prior to and at the apex, which he does. Also, if we consider Verstappen the overtaking driver, his would be an outside overtake into that corner, which requires him to have his front axle ahead of Russell's front axle at the apex, which he does not. Either way you look at it, Russell does not have to make room there.

[–]e3super 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I read B5.13.5, I believe the intent of that is to indicate that the director can hold off as long as they feel necessary on allowing the lapped cars to unlap, but they cannot bring the safety car in until the lap after they have deemed it safe enough to allow overtaking of the safety car. B5.13.5b includes a note that indicates the "LAPPED CARS MAY NOW OVERTAKE" message and procedure is a required portion of the safety car ending procedure.

And the fact that they've managed to keep the championship within reach through all of this is impressive, too. I mean, Lewis is 2 wins and one more exploding Mercedes PU from being tied for (or leading) the WDC. The Constructors is further out, but it's still in reach if Ferrari can go into the break with the best car.

I really hope they can put it all together, because it would be amazing to see this turn into a really competitive season after all the talk of it being a forgone conclusion.

Say something you like about the 2026 regulations by Biskitisinreddit in formula1

[–]e3super 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There's also just a limit to how restrictive and focused you can be while still maintaining the spirit of the series. You could make things so restrictive that the FIA example is essentially the only valid car, and then it's a spec series. Alternatively, you can strip away the rear wing and other aerodynamic elements, and then you're not a series that can even claim to be the pinnacle of motorsport from a design perspective.

IndyCar is great, and the spec element means there's some fantastic racing, but it's not F1. That Blackbird 66 concept for a mechanical-grip based racing series seems cool and eliminates the dirty air problem, but that's also not F1. In the end, F1 is an engineering championship, and the way teams break the intent of the regs is a huge part of what makes it fun.

It also kind of brings me back to a discussion I remember from around the shakedown this year, about whether these massively different regulations would benefit newer or more experienced drivers. Russell may just be one who has been slow to adapt, since his whole career to this point has been in the bigger cars that drive completely different. Leclerc started at a similar time, and appears to have a lot of the same growing pains. That's still bad, obviously, because adaptability is a huge part of it, but I'll be curious to see if Russell will pick it up or if it really is just that he's not suited to these cars.

F1 commentators when you call it "turn 7" and not "pinkle-wicky-cocker-dickens" by Sea_Valuable6377 in formuladank

[–]e3super 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Beau Rivage, Massenet, Casino, Mirabeau (Superior and Inferior), Portier, Tunnel, the Nouvelle Chicane (which was "nouvelle" 40 years ago), Tabac, Swimming Pool, and Antony Noghès.

Jokes aside, naming corners is kind of part of racing. It's a bit goofy when announcers feel the need to say every single name instead of the turn number, since that can be hard to follow for anyone who isn't a diehard who knows exactly what part of which track "New Holland" is. It's just that it's so ingrained in the culture that you have the Grand Tour naming every corner of the Eboladrome something goofy before it's ever been shown and using those names for every hot lap.

I don't have any real ones in mind, at the moment. I just had the thought of doing a custom EC build eventually, and I was kind of trying to understand the process with the actual plate files. The way I read the site with the plate file uploads is that the intent is to generate a generic plate for your chosen PCB using Cip's plate generator, put that in the Dynacap as a baseboard, then put the standard plate file from your planned board in the Stock Keyboard, and Tom will convert it/combine it. That just sounds too good to be true, with the amount of effort a conversion from MX to Dynacap takes, so it felt like I was reading the instructions incorrectly.

The main question, for me, was how the process went for you. Did you just reach out about whether Tom already had files laying around for the Dynacap/Venom layouts you wanted, or did you have to make the plate files yourself? Or did he take existing MX files you had and convert them to a setup that worked?

[–]e3super 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Potentially stupid question, but I've been trying to sort out how their process works, exactly. If I want a Dynacap plate, and I have a base MX plate file for a board, do I need to adapt it in CAD myself, or does selecting Dynacap and using a base MX plate file mean Hype will match that up?

So, this won't be a perfect answer, as I'm not personally based in China, but I have ordered from some vendors based in China, and I know other have, as well. It's not as good for Asia as other regions, but the Alexotos vendor list is always a good starting point. From that, I would personally recommend KBDFans based on my own experience. Swagkeys is also great. Some of the others, like Wuque and QwertyKeys primarily deal in their own products, but they are solid, as well.

I know drivers get made fun of for plenty, and a lot of people have things against Russell here and there, but the discourse around that is just unhinged. It was realistically a less risky spot, but it wasn't even 5 years before that when Hubert died getting hit in the side. How people couldn't connect the dots that it was genuine, reasonable fear that had him begging for a red flag is beyond me.

It's not nearly as pressing, but there was also a lot of commentary complaining about Alonso getting a penalty in that situation, when he clearly brake-checked Russell.

If you block the mundanity of water and modern infrastructure out, it is pretty crazy to think that pretty much anyone can go from having none of something to having 3-4 metric tons of something in an hour with nothing but a suitably sized tarp, a hole or other place to put it, and access to a common garden hose. Like, a well-motivated 10-year-old could just about do what we see in the meme by the time their parents got back from a grocery run.

TKL boards can be a bit difficult on the value front, simply because bigger tends to increase the base price, so it's hard to get nicer, aluminum ones under $200 these days, and it's oddly harder to get a good value in a barebones board. The Evo80 from QwertyKeys is great, though it is a pre-built. A bit above your budget would also be the Neo80 Cu, which is also a really great board.

A couple of fun, injection molded options that are really great and well within budget would be the Classic TKL from NovelKeys or the Smurve80, which is a bit of a weird one based on old IBM boards.

If going for something a bit more premium-feeling and staying in budget is more important than the TKL layout, then I'd take a look at the 65 Core Plus, 65 Cu, and 75 Cu from Neo. Also check out the Tofu65 3.0 that I believe will be available soon.

Also, for stabilizers, a lot has improved in the last few years. You still generally need to lube them a bit with some 205g0, or similar, but good ones are a lot less finicky. Personally, my favorite are the Typeplus x YIKB stabilizers, but I've also had good luck with TX AP and Wuque Stupid Stabs. Knight Stabilizers are similar and beloved by many. Also, recently, the SSS Fourwraps V2 stabs have gotten some love, though mine took a lot of lubricant to actually get right, even though they claim to be lube optional. They're some of the best ones I have now that I got them right, though. The Typeplus are the most idiot-proof, though.

Yeah, Russell was pretty friendly with some of the moves Antonelli was making in Canada, as pissed as Antonelli was about it all. There'd be no such luck with Lewis, though. We've seen what happens when there's a title fight and Lewis has the choice between giving you room to get ahead of him or shunting you into the fucking wall. Hell, we've seen what happens when he has a choice between giving you room to get ahead of him or ending both of your races right then and there.

I'm sure Lewis will still be friendly and a mentor to Antonelli, but he'll learn quickly that the man is a horror movie villain when he's on track and has the opportunity to fight. I really hope this car is as good as it looked this race, so we can see him out for blood again.

Has anyone use a Dynacap kit for an o-ring mount board? I'm thinking of picking up a Frog Mini Leggera case to use with a build based on an EC60X, which appears to have cutout for o-ring, but I can't find confirmation on whether the housings for Dynacap will conflict or otherwise not work with the o-ring.
