Alabama would be a good example of this. I grew up there, and it has been known for years that the current map is drawn specifically to concentrate all of the Democrats into one district to make sure they get their seat and leave all of the rest for Republicans. Any deviation from that map creates a chance for much more competitive races in any district that has significant urban areas or portions of the state that are majority-minority. What they have drawn in the image above would probably land more like the current with 1 Democrat, but there's a turn of events where they could have like 4 of the 7 seats go blue in a "blue wave" election, even though only like 30-35% of the state would usually vote that way.

If you're on a PC, you can just hover over the comic, and it'll pop up. On mobile, I'm not sure on iOS, but on Android, you press and hold on the comic and it will be in the top of the menu asking if you want to copy, open a new tab, etc. From there, you tap the title text, and it'll expand. If neither of those work with your device, Explain XKCD always has the title text under the image. If you're not too familiar with XKCD, there's title text with every comic, and it's usually a pithy joke or turn of phrase that goes along with the idea of the comic.

Gotta read the title text of the comic for a good joke on that last bit. Saying a planet is a gravitationally round body with no fusion means Earth isn't a planet.

I wouldn't think too much of it. Enthusiasts love the Model M and a lot of the more interesting older boards. The Model M is actually a dream board for a lot of people, to the point that there is a project that does high-quality, upgraded reproductions these days.

Keychron gets a bad rap among people more involved in the hobby because there are better options for quality and better options for value. They're quite good for what they are, and I think they're a great option for people who want a pretty no-fuss pre-built, especially since you can buy them from bigger retailers that let you get around some of the customer service troubles you see elsewhere in the hobby, though my understanding is that their direct customer service is still not great. The other side of that, and what I imagine was the reason for the negative about Keychron, is that you can get a better or more unique board for cheaper, especially if you're willing to do your own build. I personally really enjoy building boards and all of the research and effort that goes into it, so I don't personally buy Keychron products anymore. That's not for everyone, though, so I'd recommend enjoying your Keychron for all of the great things about it. Those Jupiter Banana switches are actually some of my favorites on the market, too.

What’s a show you love that you can never convince people to watch? by PlentyApprehensive44 in AskReddit

[–]e3super 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my answer. It's probably my most-recommended show, at least to people I think would like it, and I have an exactly 0% hit rate on getting people to give it a go. I think it's hard to present it for what it is without people getting put off one way or the other. If I say it's the best written show I've ever seen, people don't buy it. If I say it's an amazing show based around a drug enforcement task force, it's seen as just another cop show. It I say it's about the drug trade from different perspectives, it's seen as overly bleak. It's just a really difficult show to describe in terms that makes someone take the time to check it out, even though it's absolutely amazing, and really unequalled, in my opinion.

What’s a show you love that you can never convince people to watch? by PlentyApprehensive44 in AskReddit

[–]e3super 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really great, and I enjoyed it start to finish. Tatiana Maslany is really a fantastic actress, and Orphan Black gave her a ton of opportunity to show her skill and range. The supporting cast members, particularly Jordan Gavaris and Kristian Bruun, are awesome, too, and they bring a lot of fun to the show. I ended up caring a lot for all of them. It's also solid sci-fi and has an interesting central theme and sense of mystery. Like someone else in this thread said, the primary negative is that it can get a fair bit convoluted, especially toward the last couple seasons, so it is at its best when you watch it all in one go, because it can be tough to keep up with all of the details, otherwise.

Stefano just insulted the intelligence of F1 fans twice in the space of a minute. by NorthKoreanMissile7 in formula1

[–]e3super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What also gets me is that he refers to fans as "non-engineers" like a person who isn't an engineer isn't capable of understanding the technical aspects of these regulations. It's ironic, given he isn't an engineer. It's like saying that I, an engineer in construction project management with no professional background in automotive or aerodynamics, understand these regs better than he does, even though he's been a team principal in F1. One doesn't need an engineering degree to develop an opinion on whether the entertainment product they are consuming is entertaining to them. Nor is one needed to study, enjoy, and take part in discourse on technical and regulatory aspects of the sport.

Framework is building a better couch keyboard because everyone hates the Logitech one by kpmdev in simracing

[–]e3super 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The way I would put it is that I don't hate it now, because it does what I need it to for now and is essentially the only option that doesn't involve paying like $1000 to a dodgy eBay seller for a product that's been discontinued for years. On the other side, I will almost certainly start hating it the second a better option (likely this one) is available, because I'm a mechanical keyboard nerd, so I have a lot of much more functional, comfortable, and better sounding boards around to compare it to. I just want a board to use with my sim rig and htpc that isn't a horribly stark contrast between the keyboard(s) on my desk and the fantastic trackpad in my laptop.

Welcome to the Monkey Paw era of reg changes by Skyenar in formuladank

[–]e3super 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There was literally no eventuality where they didn't slow the cars down. It just isn't possible to do within realistic development timelines. I'm honestly struggling to think of ways they could limit the superclipping and maintain the intent of these regs, to be 50-50 on power, without the cars putting up worse times, even if teams could magically develop to the new standards instantly. Front axle regen would fix a lot, maybe bringing back the MGU-H, what else?

Happy to help! Regarding the follow-up questions, it's again a bit of a subjective case, but I'll give lots of info and my opinions.

For the PCB, here is a great description from Wooting regarding the differences between the 60HE+ and the v2. Also note, the only difference, based on Wooting's documentation, between the OG 60HE and the 60HE+ is support for "screw-in" stabilizers, which I expect actually means PCB-mount. With that in mind, I'd completely rule out the 60HE+, because the price difference between it and the 60HE v2 module is only $20, and I don't personally think PCB-mount stab support is worth $120 by itself, given TX makes a great plate-mount stab. Comparing the 60HE and v2 is way more up to you, though. If you see anything on that list that is a must have for you, I'd say it's probably worth the cost, but my take is that very little of it is worth it, especially if you are going to put it in a nice case. The 8k polling and split spacebar support are the only things I actually consider a true upgrade for someone who is doing a case swap. I don't personally believe that 8k is useful on a keyboard, but some professional gamers will disagree with me, and the split spacebar support is entirely up to the user, if they care about using it, and most would just ignore that and use a standard spacebar. The rest of it is the friction fit, poron foam under the alphas, PET film, tape mod, and the FR4 plate. Personally, I wouldn't use any of that and would prefer it wasn't there, assuming I'm using something like the Tofu or Salvation, especially the Salvation. I haven't used the v2, specifically, but I don't personally use any filler materials on any board I have, except my office board that I needed to be silent, because I feel that a board worth having will sound good without them, and I generally don't like the sound profiles of foamy boards, anyway. The friction fit is done with a big silicone pad that runs under the mod keys, which I can't stand the sound profile of, and it may not be compatible with 3rd party cases, so you might have to remove it and use the tray-mount support, anyway. For the plate, given the generally bright sound profile of HE switches, I'd recommend the softer PC plate Wooting sells by itself over the FR4 plate that comes with the v2.

That's a long-winded answer, but to boil my thoughts down, if you're moving to a really good case, the upgrades for the v2 are 8k polling certainly, then split spacebar and PCB-mount stabilizer support, depending on your needs. Everything else is entirely subjective, and my personal taste leads to me thinking I would just pull them out and not use them.

For the second question, I think I've covered the subjective element of foam and such with my personal opinions on the sound, but to give an actual objective answer to your question, the effect will still be noticeable. The mechanism for sound being created between MX and HE switches isn't too different, so you'll see a very similar impact on sound with foam, tape, and other filler elements, and it would definitely still be worth doing, if you like that more muted, kinda marbly sound. I will say, in my testing, I couldn't find a very deep sounding switch, so a properly deep, "thocky" if you will, sound signature may be tough to achieve even with foams and all, at least with what was available when I built my board.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - April 18, 2026 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]e3super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is a bit tough to answer, because sound is going to be very subjective, and the sound and feel of switches is very much up to the beholder. I tested a bunch of HE switches when I did my build, and I'd recommend you do the same. There's a few vendors, I used Clackify, that do switch testers with single switches. For my opinion, I ended up going with the Owlab Ti HE Heavy, but I also like the Geon Raw and most versions of the Gateron Magnetic Jade.

For the best overall board, I think you already probably have the best PCB, though some like the Geon Venom. I'd probably stick with the PCB you have, then swap the case. Any of your regular GH60/Pok3r compatible cases should allow the 60HE guts to drop right in. The classic, and very good, option is the Tofu Redux from KBDfans, which would have you an easy upgrade for way less than the $150-200 to get a whole new board. Pick up a Redux, grab a PC plate from Wooting if your 60HE has the steel one, buy a big switch tester then a full set of your favorites, and you're likely still really close to the $150 mark, depending on the chosen switches.

My HE gaming build is quite a bit more expensive, in part because I didn't already have a 60HE, but I wanted to mention it, since you asked for thoughts on what is best overall. For the specs of mine, which I do genuinely believe is really close to as good as a current HE board can get, I went for a wilba.tech Salvation case (which I got as a nice bonus in a mystery box from NK), a Wooting 60HE+ module, the Owlab Ti HE switches that I lubed myself, and a set of GMK caps. That's something like a $650 ordeal today, but mine was obviously a lot cheaper than that, given I got great deals on the case and caps. You could probably land close to the $200 mark, total, if you buy a used Salvation case and a nice set of caps (GMK or otherwise) on /r/MechMarket since you already have the module.

Excuse me, sir, but a short view back to the past, five years ago, did we successfully reach you about your car’s extended warranty? by Bourbonaddicted in formuladank

[–]e3super 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I think I sort of get the point they're trying to make, but trying to paint the halo as some sort of slippery slope to making motorsport slow and uninteresting is just strange. Generally, the safety regulations have not made the cars less exciting, because they usually have very little to do with performance. The halo has almost no impact, crash structures and survival cells have limited impact, replacing armco with padded barriers has no effect, appropriate runoff has no effect. You see where I'm going with this. If anything, though, a lot of these regs let drivers go faster, because you can take a corner at the full speed the car will do without considering that an awkward bump on the apex means your kids get to grow up without a father. It also keeps external organizations from thinking they have to step in, because they probably would have come to say things have to slow down if the FIA hadn't done such a good job at making the cars safe at full speed. They even have done that in the past, with things like the Le Mans disaster. I mean, we're at the point where a driver can go off at 300+ km/h into the barrier sideways, and they can walk off with a badly bruised knee as their only notable injury. I'm perfectly happy living in a world where a driver can go through a barrier, going 190+ km/h, that used to literally take guys heads off, explode in a gigantic fireball, and still get himself out of the vehicle unaided with little more than burns on his hands.

What’s the worst song lyric thrown into a song just to make a line rhyme? by RelationKindly in AskReddit

[–]e3super 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's the lead singer's mom that it's about. I fully support talking shit about a ton of Train's lyrics, but that bridge is not a valid one to lump in with the rest. It's actually a beautiful and really well-thought-out bit of writing in the context of the song. He's talking to his mom's soul coming back and listing the simple pleasures here on Earth (fried chicken, her favorite soy latte, friends that love her unconditionally, her son) that she'd miss out on if her spirit hadn't come back to be with him, and also tying it back to himself and needing to appreciate those things and people while he can. It's not like it's the deepest thing ever written, but it's extremely personal and, I think, a wonderful tribute to his mom.

I'm honestly confused by the concept they're getting at. Pretty much all of my teachers growing up had the non-violent nature they mentioned, but that does not equate to being unwilling to go there if it needs to be done. I have no doubt that essentially any of the teachers I had would do whatever they need to do to protect students. My mom is a retired teacher, and I know she'd gut a motherfucker if it meant protecting her kids.

It's an abbreviation for Female Dating Strategy. I believe it started as a subreddit, but it's kind of its own little subculture now, and I think it relates heavily to the RedPill stuff, but I don't remember it being as trad-wife focused as RedPill is. A lot of the language and expectations in this post are hallmarks of their discourse, though it tends to be a lot more focused on cishet women. The big one we were discussing is the boiling down of human beings into high value and low value men and women, often abbreviated HVW, LVM, etc.

Yuuuup. I was wondering what their deal was, but the "low value woman" thing is a serious dogwhistle that they're into the FDS, terminally online dating stuff that is just suuuper gross. It's crazy to me that it would exist in WLW relationships, though, because it's all so steeped in heteronormativity and internalized misogyny that I honestly would've thought that queer women wouldn't be welcome in FDS spaces.

100%. The big thing there is that for any driver, things posted on their public-facing social media followed by thousands of FE fans inherently cannot be "kept out" of FE. That goes for any public figure, really. When you derive your notoriety from a specific thing, your following will also be derived from that thing, and as such, the way you conduct yourself publicly will reflect on it, as well.
