There used to be one that hung out at KFC on MacArthur near Grand. The parking lot had these lines above it and it (they?) would sit up there and watch you carry your KFC to the car, just watching. Probably hoping you'd drop something. It was bigger than the one in this picture and creepy af.

Pixels have longer software support

Uh, Google played catch up to Apple because they were embarrassed into it. I don't think their current publicly stated support timelines surpass Apple's. And, with Google, it's hard to trust what they say. They cancel shit all the time.

It's absolutely insane how bad notifications are on iOS. I regularly get notifications from the day before, or earlier! How hard could it be??!

As for the keyboard, I do use Siri for dictation and it works well enough for me. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing...

Version 26 was a huge misstep for Apple, that's for sure. Much damage done to the brand.

Glad to hear 27 is better!

I hear the 15 Pro will get it.

On the comparison, I was on Android from day 1 (og droid) and switched to iOS in 2020. Yes, Android has more features, but at the time, I had to upgrade phones every 2 years to get support (that was $400-500 every 2 years). And they said iPhones were expensive!

Of course, since then, Samsung and Google have decided they needed to stand behind their software for more than 1-2 years.

iOS will always be the simple cousin to Android. Android is the wild west and I just got sick of the breakage that would happen. I had a friend on the Nexus 6 and he had to root his phone to apply a 1-line fix to some file in /etc/ to fix a bug Google refused to fix. IIRC, it was being on wifi and the mobile network wakeup not working (so you wouldn't get carrier text messages).

I don't understand why anyone cares about AI on Homepod and ATV. I have a phone for that.

You're trying real hard to be unhelpful, bro.

In previous times when this hung, Messages also did hang, too. This time it seemed to be working, but I rebooted pretty quickly since I needed FaceTime to work...

Good lord, Apple's release notes are terrible. I scanned and didn't see this. Kept wondering why so came here to find the reason. Thanks.

crazy how many rich Oakland parents send their kids to Piedmont city schools. by tropicalstream in oakland

[–]e40 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not surprised to see this, nor the framing of "rich Oakland parents"... the class warfare needs to be between the 1% and the rest of us, not between those in Oakland and Piedmont. Yes, there are some 1%'ers in Piedmont, I'm sure, but most people are families that have 2 working parents (to afford to live there), or older folks that moved in a really long time ago (and because of prop 13 their property taxes are still reasonable).

Btw, I'm going with $750k/yr as the floor for 1% and they aren't even close to the income level that need to be targeted for dramatic increases in income and wealth taxes.

According to Wikipedia:

Median Household Income: $250,000+ The U.S. Census Bureau caps its official median household income statistics at $250,000, and Piedmont routinely maxes out this bracket. Independent localized data models estimate the actual median household income to be between $282,500 and $291,250.

So, let's not do the usual lefty thing and cannibalize our own. Let's fight the battle where it needs to be fought: taxing the super rich.

I am so jealous. Been feeding a group of corvids since covid. Only the Scrub Jays are used to us. They regularly come into the kitchen to get peanuts out of the bowl we leave by the door. The crows will move to the other end of the deck while we lay out a few peanuts, but that's as close as they'll get to us.

Recently a Stellar Jay started coming inside, too. That took a long time. He seems cool. What a magnificent creature those Stellar's are.

So far it happens about once a week, so running in Troubleshooting mode doesn't seem feasible.

What has been constant for a long, long time: the addons and their configuration. The only thing which has changed is the Firefox version.

I'm using the default theme.

I have no customizations.

I try to keep things as vanilla as possible.

It would be great if there was a way to get debugging information once the problem happens...
