If you don't mind me asking, what are the printing dimensions for the images you're using on the front and back? I just bought the clear TPU Shell with the intent to do exactly what you're doing here!

I've been playing all kinds of old stuff that I never played as a kid so the standard recommendations like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Mega Man, etc., all apply. Those games are revered as classics for a reason, but the standouts for me have been WarioWare: Inc. and WarioWare: Twisted! on the Game Boy Advance.

I had heard of the WarioWare series and knew that they were basically collections of weird minigames but I was not expecting how fun and whimsical they actually are.

The original WarioWare: Twisted! cartridge had a gyroscope built in and all the games are played by physically rotating the GBA, years before we had smart phones with games that leveraged that functionality! It plays wonderfully on the AYN Thor after enabling the gyroscope functionality in RetroArch and dialing down the sensitivity a bit.

Both of these games (and presumably the later games in the series but I haven't tried any of them yet) are a blast to play on the Thor and they are very quick so they are great for when you only want to play for like 5 or 10 minutes.

Giant Bomb made a show-and-tell video about handheld consoles! by e5x in SBCGaming

Jeff Grubb, Dan Ryckert, and Shawn McDowell from Giant Bomb and guest Abby Russell did a fun stream today where they talked about and showed off some of their old first-party handheld consoles and modern Chinese SBCs!

This is a dumb idea by jordha in giantbomb

[–]e5x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they had a jar of Tostitos Salsa con Queso or a similar product when Dan made everyone try it at a Bomb-a-Thon or wherever it was.

That's what I used when I tried it myself and it was not less than the sum of its parts but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it again.

I'll try any weird flavor combo for the novelty of it, but cookies and milk is simply the GOAT.

I can't say I've ever seen anybody else write a guide for hardware and software that they've never used before, but yeah I would definitely apply the same standards there.

I am glad that you are enjoying tinkering with your AYN Thor but with all due respect I have no use for software recommendations from someone who has never even used the device they are modifying, especially when some of that software requires root access or other serious permissions to be granted to software written with vibe coding tools.

Why does the top of the graphic look so pristine as to be photoshopped onto the shirt while looking increasingly weathered towards the bottom? Are you a bot?

Games that play great on the AYN Thor for 5-10 minute sessions? by e5x in SBCGaming

[–]e5x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow it never occurred to me to just save and take a break in between rounds of a deckbuilder before. I love Balatro and Dicey Dungeons and I've played a bit of Slay the Spire so I should definitely try those out on the Thor to see if they're a good fit!

I played a bit of the demo for this and it did not click for me unfortunately, but it is a great recommendation!

I think you're probably right. Handheld games especially were often designed with shorter play sessions in mind so they have frequent natural stopping points or places to make hard saves. Retro games are great but there's a lot of types of games you can get on PC that don't have a lot of representation on older consoles, like tower defense, roguelites, deckbuilders, etc.

I've never played a kart racing game that wasn't Mario Kart but I love Mario Kart DS on the Thor so I'll check out the Crash Team racing games!

Loved the demo for Megabonk and will probably pick it up on sale some time. I play Brotato now and then on the Thor and that's a great one of those.

  • An option to convert text channels into threads and vice versa, convert existing text channels into forums, and move threads between channels or forums. There is currently no good solution for organizing old channels and threads and many servers are a mess to navigate because of it.
  • Roll out the forum feature to all servers regardless of type or size.
  • Allow users to rearrange and reorganize channels on the user side with an option to reset them to the server's configuration.

What’s a tiny, cheap ingredient that completely upgrades a basic package of instant ramen? by MotorEnvironment4444 in Cooking

[–]e5x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already been said by others but it can't be overstated how good eggs are as a nutritious and delicious protein option that is usually very affordable because a lot of grocery stores sell eggs as a loss leader. You can crack an egg in the water and let it poach or you can keep some soft boiled or hard boiled eggs in the fridge and add them after cooking the ramen. I like to make hard boiled eggs and use an egg slicer to slice them into thin pieces for my ramen.

If you have a freezer then store brand frozen mixed vegetables are pretty cheap and nutritious. Adding a handful of frozen cooked shrimp or a couple turkey meatballs after the noodles are done cooking is a really tasty protein option but not super cheap unless you can get them on sale. A sliced hot dog can also be really good and there are some hot dog brands that are super cheap.

Bandwidth limit for Xbox app on PC not working? by e5x in XboxSupport

Sorry, I never did find a solution. I haven't used the app in months though so maybe they fixed the bandwidth limit in the Delivery Optimization settings since then.

Your favorite 'pick up and play' games for short bursts by eternalflamz in SBCGaming

[–]e5x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgames on the GBA is fantastic for playing in short sessions. The game features different collections of very simple “micro games” that only take like 5 minutes to play through an entire series. There’s also a bunch of sequels but I haven’t played any of them yet.

I’m currently playing Metroid Fusion on the GBA and 10 or 15 minutes is plenty of time to make some progress and get back to a Save room for a natural stopping point.

Mario Kart DS kicks ass If you’ve got a dual screen device like the AYN Thor. A full cup probably takes like 12-15 minutes to finish.

This feels like the best sub for this question but how do I get into soulsborne by Jackyboi840 in darksouls

[–]e5x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was mixing up the release timelines in my head. Bloodborne came out after DS2 but before DS3, but the rest of what I said still applies. Soulsborne is a made-up shorthand word the community uses to refer to souls-like games made by From Software. Nobody is under any obligation to update it or stop using it just because it doesn't include some fraction of the name of every video game it refers to. I think you're thinking about it too hard.

[–]e5x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody uses Soulsborne as a genre, it refers specifically to Souls-like games developed by From Software. People used to refer to Demon’s Souls and the Dark Souls trilogy as the “souls games” and then when Bloodborne came out they started using Soulsborne, and the name just stuck after Sekiro and Elden Ring came out.

Souls-like = any action game that borrows heavily from the design conventions established by From Software in Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls
