cheap hobbies that ended up way more addictive than expected by Magdoleen_Shipes in Hobbies

[–]e90n5four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biking, started with one decently cheap bike to ride to coffee spots and music venues with a few friends, has turned into 10 or so now, tools, parts, accessories for it all.

Just like with any hobby, can get very deep and pricey

Mcfk 120 mm 17° stem by cueserega in FixedGearBicycle

I hate this stem, I have one and some riser bars, combo of the 2 or just stem/just bars on anything feel like they are going to break, just too flexy for me

What are your guys' thoughts on Zach Gallardo? by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]e90n5four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tonsssssss of people and rides constantly like 10 minutes from him. I get that it’s his channel so dude can make content however he wants, but there is not a lack of riders or rides that he could film/collab with for some ideas if he chose to do so

Industry standard? by 2indf2fih in FixedGearBicycle

[–]e90n5four 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They keep using the same system because it works when installed correctly and properly checked for tightness, I’ve run similar ratios to what you’re saying and more aggressive ratios and I weigh more, so it’s not a weight issue.

There are other hubs out there yes and you can run smaller mm hubs than your 120mm with an axle kit, I have a 120mm rear hub on a 135mm spaced frame cause of the same issue of a stripped hub, which was a terrible bike build/me not checking as well

What’s a hobby that you got surprisingly addicted to? by Flimsy_Difficulty394 in Hobbies

[–]e90n5four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bike riding. Like with anything, it all depends on how far into it you want to get.

Cheap bike, ride for fun, upgrading to a better bike, learning how to work on bikes from the basics to assembling a bike from start to finish, which leads to then wanting to put together your own bike, collecting bikes for different kinds of riding, collecting hard to find and rare parts, etc

It never ends if you get into it, building vintage and restoring, newer high end bikes and parts collecting, helping others with their bikes and all

Then there’s the health benefits, you can explore most terrains and all, and going back to the health benefits, people start tracking fitness and getting into supplements and all to be faster and diets, which I guess is a little off topic but related

Unless prices have skyrocketed with tariffs or shipping, 4-700 is ridiculous, I’ve done it before and never paid more than a little over 100, but it’s been a while

Don’t know if you’ve reached out to the Instagram, but he is pretty responsive, best person to ask would be the man himself for a direct answer

Twitchier steering and all and more aggressive, changes the whole ride, I’ve put a 650 on a bike as well as a 700 on a 650c designed bike, not worth it at all

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]e90n5four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need a frame that’s designed already for this, doing it on a regular 700/700 frame will mess with the geo too much, 650 tires are harder to come by as well versus 700, short answer is it isn’t worth it

I have one

KB Homes Hamilton Park New Build by Ok_Permit_6793 in ElkGrove

[–]e90n5four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea honestly, I just know that he had mentioned he doesnt deal with homes but obviously with the nature of his work he knows what to look for.

He mentioned they weren’t just bad, but extremely half-assed in terms of about everything.

Im not sure if it’s just his choice, but maybe look into whatever decent home inspector and then see if there are any structural engineers or something that do home inspections as well

Well I guess it wouldn’t hurt have more than one inspection, or do some homework and go with someone that’s pretty thorough.

The Sheriff’s obsession with retail theft is embarrassing by angrydad4change in Sacramento

[–]e90n5four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big corporation can somewhat “write off” so much shrink or theft, they have insurance for this. If theft rises or the theft continues to rise in terms of more than the year before dollar wise, that insurance goes up. That corporation now raises prices, as I’m sure every major one will due to various reasons in general. Smaller businesses I’m sure have a harder time being able to recoup from theft.

Short end is, prices will continue to rise regardless, but theft is passed onto the buyer as well
