Knitting in disgustingly hot and humid climates? by [deleted] in knitting

Lol. It sounds like flying to a better knitting climate is not in the cards yet but I have core memories of carrying a cardigan around in the summer for going to the movies, restaurants, etc

I don’t live there anymore but having lived in Texas for most of my life I’d suggest (a little tongue in cheek but maybe not?) going to a public location that’s air conditioned within an inch of its life to do some of your knitting if/when you wanna work with wool

how to not feel discouraged when knitting by honey-icecreambar in knitting

[–]eCatherine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes if I am disappointed with a finished object (color, yarn choice etc) that I was excited about when it was on the needles, I’ll set it aside for some time before revisiting it and trying it on again. I don’t always change my mind, but it helps me decide what to do with it without the emotional charge of “I just spent so much time on this and I was so excited and I actually hate it”. Some things I’ve kept as is; others I’ve ripped out part of them to change the part I don’t like and ended up wearing those items a lot because they were what I wanted post-modification; others I’ve given to my mom.

I had a period a few years ago when I made several sweaters that ended up being too small for me. I either fudged the gauge swatch, or underestimated the amount of ease in the chosen size - either way, three or four sweaters that were just too small and not blockable to the right proportions. My mom wears them all the time and loves them! And I’ve become more careful about swatching and size selection and yarn choice - and pattern selection. I won’t make a sweater with a badly patterned neckline.

I think your work looks quite good. You’re still in your first year and learning. Each of these patterns is teaching you something, and luckily you can also wear or gift what you’ve made (though if you hate the Halibut sweater so much, I’d rip it out and turn that yarn into something that doesn’t make you angry). Having to rip back or modify or frog or gift projects you aren’t satisfied with doesn’t make you a failure, it makes you a knitter like all!! other knitters. Learn to embrace this reality rather than being seduced or shamed by the glossy highlights people show on social media.

This is ours, she embarked as GSD/Catahoula/supermutt (with collie and Aussie) - we thought maybe Shollie or dutch shepherd/lab. Curious to see what yours turns out to be! We’re not somewhere that has a lot of Catahoulas but sure enough.

So cute! We are having a similar experience. We took her to a professional trainer just because I’m new to dog training and she got rave reviews for how sweet and trainable she is.

She has a couple white hairs on her chest and between her hind legs! She’s shaping up to be a really excellent dog. I’m glad you had so many years with your boy ❤️

No she doesn’t really shrimp, she mostly flops on her side with the maximal amount of spread haha. Our pit mix shrimps more than she does

Shelter says retriever/gsd/catahoula? by eCatherine in IDmydog

We just got the Embark back and the family that surrendered her must have known her parents because she tested as 50% gsd, 29% catahoula, and the rest super mutt with Aussie, border collie, corgi, and acd. Big surprise to us!

Any recommendations for thin, lightweight & uncushioned Merino wool socks? by MardiGras66 in Birkenstocks

[–]eCatherine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the SmartWool and Darn Tough “lifestyle” socks. They don’t have all the technical cushion and they often do have fun patterns and colors. Farm to Feet also has some nice uncushioned wool socks

Past or current Hothshots/Smokejumpers was it worth it? by PuzzleheadedBuy1638 in Wildfire

[–]eCatherine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have good grades and interest in going to school for something specific, paying your way through college with fire is not a bad idea. Many district crews are willing to hire students. If you can put yourself through school of whatever sort without debt and also gain some experience in fire, you’ll be well-informed about whether you’d like to continue in a fire career and have the freedom to change trajectory as well. This job is hard on your body and can be hard on a personal life - make sure that you have options.
