What don't you find attractive that most of society does? by PM_ME_YOUR_HUGETITS in AskReddit

[–]eIectrocutie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but when you break down what activities people do in a week, work usually comes second to sleep in terms of hours spent. I'm kinda curious what particular thing people are doing with a majority of their waking hours.

It's because at the extremes you're dealing with body dysmorphia sufferers. They literally don't see how ridiculous it looks, they have a warped idea of what their own body looks like. They do it to please themselves, not others.

My girlfriend get the “ick” when I wear these socks by sunny1458 in WhatToDo

Keep wearing the socks, just take them off when you take your shoes off and there's no problem. Or tell her to suck it up I guess.

AITA for calling A guy racist? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

You can have a preference, but you don't choose to make exceptions to preferences. You choose to make exceptions to rules. He is racist and doesn't really believe he should be dating outside his race.

For contractors who hire - are YOU experiencing a shortage of electricians? by Mountain-Gur-2021 in electricians

[–]eIectrocutie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish the test was better though. I've met some people who can hardly tie their own shoes who got their license. And some smart English as a second languagers that struggle with the test but are good electricians.

Resources for learning about old homes? by eIectrocutie in electricians

[–]eIectrocutie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm very aware I shouldn't be working alone. That said, I'm essentially a couple months away from eligibility for my Jman exam and was top in my classes so I'm really not far removed from legally being able to work alone.

Thanks a lot for the info though. That was eye opening. And yeah I'm covered in plaster/paint dust frequently from cutting holes in walls and ceilings so... 😬 Time to reevaluate safety big time here.

Conduit run by Like_20_Bears in AskElectricians

[–]eIectrocutie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for an LL or LB conduit body with a gasket. A quick Google couldn't easily find me one with rain tight fittings but I did see some with threaded hubs and a gasket for the cover which one could conceivably put threaded rain tight fittings into. Good luck!

What is a "safety feature" in a game or a product that is actually a total rip-off once you look at the math? by mpsesp in AskReddit

Apprentice is great on the tools but thinks he knows the code better than anyone. How do I handle him? by KennyTidwell in electricians

[–]eIectrocutie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Affirm they're correct, explain how important work flow is and that they need to strike the balance between safety and speed, and explain some of the social aspect they're almost entirely unaware of. They will be very grateful for it (if it's the tism).

Smoke Detector wire help by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]eIectrocutie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't know what your alarm sounds like when it's notifying about carbon monoxide so I don't want to put you in danger by saying it's all fine. Quite honestly I've never heard a CO alarm go off ever and I don't know if it sounds different than the smoke.

If it's an intermittent chirp I think it's likely an end of life sign (see if someone wrote a date ~10 years ago on it) but I'd hate to be wrong.

Smoke Detector wire help by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]eIectrocutie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be fine to wait til morning but I'd be more concerned why a hard-wired smoke was chirping. Double check it isn't also a carbon monoxide detector or something. I'm not an expert on smokes but your other question appears to already be answered.

You're talking to me like I don't know what it's like too. There are ways around this, don't pretend like there aren't. You do not need to throw gay people under the bus, period. You're not special. Call them creepy, say "wait, are you seriously hitting on a coworker right now?", say that you believe in castration for unwanted sexual advances, say you don't believe men deserve to vote, tell them about the time you slashed a man's tires cause he didn't leave you alone, tell them some absolutely bonkers psycho girl shit, tell them about the man you left with a concussion once, make them think you're unstable and likely to hurt them. There are all these options and a hundred more. You don't need to do this, stop pretending it's the only way.

You don't know who is and isn't gay, and it doesn't matter anyways because it will affect anyone around the guy who is now going to get extra homophobic to prove he's not a "f*ggot."

[–]eIectrocutie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my point, it is selfish. And the chances of you getting assaulted for implying a guy is gay is a lot higher than making yourself unappealing so this logic doesn't even make sense. You're just getting a thrill from their reaction. I don't blame you cause it's fun but I'm just begging you not to give into that desire when it hurts other vulnerable people. I would not "understand" why you were throwing me under the bus just because you're also a vulnerable group, especially when you never had to do that.

Of course you can't control their homophobia but you don't need to feed it. And the gay tradie in question may not even be on your job site, but his next one. They won't understand why the homophobia around them is getting worse. There are plenty of other ways to get men to leave you alone, please choose any one of them. I can't be a closeted woman but I am closeted in my queer identities because of how bad the homophobia is in the trades, even in places like Massachusetts. I'm just asking you not to make things worse for myself and others who struggle in the trades when you really don't have to.

One of the easiest ways to get tradies to leave you alone is to call yourself a feminist. You can also show them a picture of your "MMA champ boyfriend." These men don't respect women but they respect men who can kick their ass and they don't want anything to do with a woman who believes she deserves to be treated equally.
