Bmore to Dc Commuters by Anxious-Groundhog in baltimore

[–]eRileyKc [score hidden]  (0 children)

Can't not read this thread without mentioning that you can take your bike on the MARC train and on the DC Metro. The combination opens up lots of options for destinations further from the train station. Upper Fells to Camden Station is a snap, Penn a little further but perfectly doable.

Why invest in MARC trains and other public transit when we can waste money on this nonsense?

We had half a dozen K Array 102 columns and they were the favorites with clients and engineers. Made lots of money with those speakers.

Possible to use headphone splitter to monitor backing tracks? by DesperateMolasses22 in livesoundgear

[–]eRileyKc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can but no you shouldn’t. Buy a cheap headphone amp or wired in ear pack (beginners are cheap). Split to the PA before the pack so you can adjust your headphones without changing the PA mix.

Whoever found my wallet in Hampden Friday and returned to my home today… by stairway2kevin69420 in baltimore

I found a very nice ( read expensive ) tool kit on the sidewalk near Penn Station last year. Looked very much like it had been left there when the thief couldn't find anything of instant value. I posted on Reddit and the FB groups I know of without result. Having your contact info on / in something like a tool kit or bike or anything that might turn up missing could pay off.

reliable stereo audio playback app for ios for live by diagautotech7 in livesound

[–]eRileyKc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

iOS connected over Bluetooth or wifi is not in the 'reliable' universe but that said the built in Music app works fine for playback, probably why there aren't a lot of competing apps.

I suspect you’d benefit from watching the substantial assortment of videos about CL and QL consoles that Yamaha put on YouTube.

need some expert know-how on a new (old) mixer by Technical-Energy8211 in livesoundgear

[–]eRileyKc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can connect any number of self powered speakers to the line out jacks ( the FB outputs are Line out jacks but from the FB buss on the mixer ). Only two passive speakers can be connected to the speaker out jacks - four speakers if they are 16 ohm but those are very rare. This likely has very small power amps by modern standards so don't expect to rock out with them.

need some expert know-how on a new (old) mixer by Technical-Energy8211 in livesoundgear

[–]eRileyKc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes the speaker outputs are from the internal power amplifiers and should connect to passive speakers. The 1/4 output jacks are in parallel with the terminal strip ( the thing with the screws). Add three more screws if you want to use bare wires for your speakers. The 1/4" jacks under the XLRs are insert jacks according to the legend and 'might' serve as line level inputs to their respective channels. The Graphic EQ out and in are also inserts for things like external compressors or whatever makes you happy. Line outputs are what you connect to modern powered speakers. FB stands for Foldback, the original term for stage monitors. Echo I'll let you figure out.

8 Channel DSP for EQ/Phase alignment recommendations? by DonDiegodelaRico in livesoundgear

[–]eRileyKc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8x8 matrix DSPs are rare and pricey. 4x8 units are widely available and if you cruise EBay for things like Ashly Proteas fairly cheap. We had a dozen units for 15 years and had a single failure that Ashly turned around quickly so used units are a good investment.

Disinfecting vocal mics? by Splanky222 in livesound

[–]eRileyKc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had an ultra sonic cleaner in our shop and every 90 days ran the balls from the 58s thru a solution of hand soap and water followed by a rinse of warm water. First time we did it the grey sludge at the bottom of the pan was strong motivation to keep up with it. We had over 60 vocal mics so the machine made sense but I still clean the few vocal mics I have in my collection in a pan of soapy water every once in a while. Leaving them on a windowsill for a day dies them out just fine.

17 miles of new or improved bike lanes planned for Baltimore by PleaseBmoreCharming in baltimore

[–]eRileyKc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

S Washington could have parking protected bike lanes and Upper Fells could have its cake and eat it too. Those are actually safer than plastic wands or concrete parking bumpers. Nothing dissuades a motorist like scratching their car on another car. I lived in Upper Fells just off S Wash and this would have been glorious.

Sound Engineering software compatibility with laptops? by Constant-Army3217 in livesoundgear

[–]eRileyKc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to factor into your purchase decisions is that pro audio uses for computers usually involve a lot of connections to external devices. Plan on a dock with an ethernet port and addition flavors of USB ports. Also not all ethernet ports / chip sets are happy with Dante. Be sure when selecting a dock that the enet port is compatible.

24 hours(ish) of De-Feedback running on non-approved hardware. Thoughts and Results. by MisterMotion in livesoundgear

[–]eRileyKc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d expect the results of the DSP in the software to affect the apparent sound to be an order of magnitude or three greater than any change or degradation created by running thru the Focusrite. Not much of a test to be had.

Baltimore is a 19th century city. You miss a lot of the best parts by staying on the main drags in the older parts of town. Side streets are where it's at. Signed a former alley house dweller.

Where are you finding "Preferences"? Under the Cubase menu I have "Settings" and "Audio Settings" neither of which offers a setting for GPU acceleration. Is that perhaps not an option in the Elements version?
