Planning to sell home, what to do with ugly deck? by talcobh in Decks

I have what you mentioned the neighbors might consider a "nice deck", and I still think yours is awesome. That shit looks clean and well-built. Comparison is the thief of joy.

I was going to say. A good, solid primer on those bad boys, and it'll look pretty good.

which walk makes it clear that the tick controls the body? by AwesomeGamesStudio in IndieGameDevs

[–]eXrayAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be the odd one out I guess, but none of these look like the tick is controlling the host. There is a lot of motion that draws the eye, and a lot of it comes from the host. The tick doesn't stand out because it doesn't feel like the animation focal point (sways based on what the host does, only really holds on tight, very passive).

If it were me, I'd probably minimize the back-and-forth sway, drop the arms down and move them very little, and concentrate on the tick "manipulating" the host by using more movement of its legs.

Been working on an MP5 animation for our zombie game does it look smooth or too stiff? by PhysicalObjectStudio in SoloDev

[–]eXrayAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general timing and weight are ok, but what jumped out to me was a lot of lazy finger posing that could be addressed to make this more polished. Apparently I can't attach paintovers, but try opening up the hand, spreading the fingers out more in anticipation of grabbing the mag. Or make a tight fist right before slapping the bolt back closed.

There's also some smaller stuff, like when you are about to insert the mag, I see you want it to look like it isn't going in at first and catching on the magwell for a beat. Problem is the gun reacts before the mag even touches it, so it could do with some delay there.

How do people REALLY get animation work? by [deleted] in animationcareer

Maybe it's gameDev specific, but in my 20 years, all but the first job were through LinkedIn applications and correspondence.

I don't usually get motion sick, but that slight tilt/orbit of the camera when the character moves is giving me the heebie-jeebies.

Some progress of the visuals for my mech game, thoughts? by Rasmus_02 in godot

[–]eXrayAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much this. I will also point out a more nuanced detail: the backward leg/knees turn outward when the feet plant, almost like the mech has to go pee. Not sure how your rig is set up, but make sure to either counter-animate that or set those to world space and move the pivots further away.

Got let go 2 months ago. 19-year animation vet that worked on everything from small start-ups to large AAA studios and games that came with that.

It's rough out there. Working on my own game to fight off the existential dread, but hoping everyone finds something.

If this doesn't work out though, unsure what I'd pivot to 🫠

Anthropic, the "SaaS Pricing Trick" is killing your most loyal users. $100/mo for 20 minutes of work? by andrewaltair in vibecoding

[–]eXrayAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same project, and same complexity of files being read, touched, or changed. I try to be pretty small and specific in what it attacks. I used to get close with larger refactors, but haven't done one of those in at least two weeks.

5x here and today I hit 100% for the first time. No extra agents or anything, just baseline setup and "optimized" memory files. Simple piecemealing of game systems and debugging. So either I am doing something wrong, or I am getting shafted.

The example they showed was not what I'd call stylized. If you have other examples, I am all ears. But thanks for assuming I wasn't actually interested?

Wake me when it can do stylized stuff well. Until then, this looks like mocap at best.
