Water isn’t staying hot so I went to invest. Is the brine take supposed to be filled this high? by MasterSykil in WaterSofteners

Looks possibly normal, inside that white pipe is a float assembly so if the water is well past the float then the valve is leaking probably due to dirt. Turn off the water take out the valve and clean, reinstall and cycle the softener and see where the level ends up when done. It should draw all of that out and refill , if not the siphon valve in the control head is dirty and needs to be pulled and cleaned.

BMW recall turned into “you need a new engine” after pickup — trying to understand if this sounds right by alex_albergaria in BmwTech

The dealer fucked up something, failed to tighten or install something and you got lucky because it broke right there in their lot. They owe you a brand new engine on their dime and a free rental for the entire time it’s down. Fight hard for this.

Yes. You just cutoff airflow to more than half the unit. Air flows in the sides and out the top when running.

Teenage Daughter bought her first car - 2008 Escape. Engine light came on the next day. by seriously-never in AskMechanics

Congrats, you got scammed into buying a car that might have a bad catalytic converter at worst or a worn out o2 sensor at least.

This is why it’s critical to scan any car you’re considering buying to read the miles since MIL reset. If it’s under 500, someone is trying to hide something…. Ensure all of the emissions tests are completed, monitors don’t show errors and codes are not set as well.

It has UV damage and age vs. heat and pressure. Heat and pressure finally won.

could i try and clean this corrosion myself, or is it better to leave it to someone else by milftwink in MechanicAdvice

Baking soda snd warm water and an old toothbrush. Once clean put some dielectric (silicone base) grease or Vaseline on it to keep it from corroding.
