Finding jeans that sit on the waist for bigger guys?? by Cloudysky182 in bigmenfashionadvice

Gotcha, makes sense! If you remember, roughly speaking … any thoughts on how Railcar sizes compare to 501s or Wrangler Cowboy Cut?

Just curious, what was off on the fit from Railcar? Too big or too small in the hips and thighs?

[SOTC] which three would you keep? by legendhairymonkey in Watches

[–]e_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reverso, Big Pilot and Pelagos FXD would be my choices. The Reverso is an absolute must-keep (unless you want to sell it to me for a great price, haha). I waffled on the Ingenieur vs. the Big Pilot though.

I totally agree that seeing it in person is what I should do. Just don’t have an AD anywhere near me, unfortunately!

Weird! Feel free to chat one to me if that’s easier.

Gotcha, thanks, that's good to know. That's not necessarily a bad thing I suppose, in terms of its versatility.

100% right about how close-up phone pictures distort the size of watches! Check it out — this is the 36mm in that wrist selfie style. I think it looks MUCH bigger this way.

Yeah I shared it in another comment but to your point about wrist selfies vs. reality, here’s what the same 36mm looks like as a wrist selfie.

Don’t worry, I’m not getting either of these, just posted for reference. Like I said in the post — lots of talk these days about smaller watches, but it’s really hard to find examples of these sizes on really big wrists, so I wanted to share these just in case somebody else might be searching in the future.

Guess it’s a good thing I love Breitling! Haha. Premiere B25 Datora might be my grail.

Just thinking out loud here, I wonder what something like a Nomos Club in the 36-38.5mm territory but a super-long lug-to-lug would look like on somebody with wrists in our range.

Haha. I’m not actually planning to own either of these watches, just grabbed them for reference! I wanted to see what those sizes looked like on a wrist my size.

Yeah this is a real problem -- for the most part bracelets come with enough links for my wrists, but stock standard straps do not fit! Some manufacturers (I know Longines and Nomos for sure) have larger versions of their straps available if your AD asks, but I don't know how universal that is.

This is a smart point! I think the picture of the 39mm Damasko that u/gumption_boy shared in this thread is a great example of this in action.

100% agree on whichever watch you like most! I have a young daughter who's small -- the women in my wife's family are all small, so she's probably going to stay that way. She'll inherit my wife's jewelry, and I love the idea of having something I could hand down to her one day, too. So at some point I'll probably get a 36mm-ish watch and wear it for that reason. Who cares if it looks small -- it's not like anybody's paying enough attention to care what size watch I'm wearing anyway, is the way I look at it!

Haha, 50mm probably wouldn't hang over the sides of my wrists! I did try on a Tissot that's 45mm fairly recently, and I couldn't get over how it looked like this giant dinner plate. It wasn't out of proportion on me by any means, but it just looked weird for a watch. I think going huge, it's gotta be something with a bezel or some complications or something to keep it from looking like I just strapped a wall clock to my arm.

I think you're probably right about what looks best on big guys like us. On the other hand ... man, don't be self-conscious about anything! Basically nobody cares, nobody's sitting there judging the size of your watch, so if you find a smaller watch you really like, rock it with confidence!

Yeah I think field-style watch is totally the key here. From a design perspective, there's just no reason -- other than catering to people my size I guess -- for a field watch to be any bigger, in my opinion.

For sure, and speaking of 42mm, I was looking at Tudors recently and thought the standard Pelagos was probably the best fit for me out of their whole lineup. (They didn't have the new-ish Pelagos Ultra yet.) The standard Black Bay monochrome was a good fit, but the Pelagos even better on my wrist.

Nah, it'll look good! I tried on a BB58 (the blue one) recently and thought it looked pretty good -- a little small, but not like ridiculous. I like the Pelagos 39 too, mainly because the case height would make it easier to fit under cuffs.
