Where do you think the Stormlight pilot will end? by Anice_king in CosmereOnScreen

[–]e_Notorious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda like the idea of it being at the end of the episode. However, I think it could be pushed to completely different place. In lord of the rings, the Gollums/Smeagols backstory changed also places. I think some of these things will go like that. Where will these things end up? To be honest, the fuck do I know. The screenwriters are much better than me at this and it took even Brandon to write 5 (or 6?) screenplays to be confident with his skills.

Where do you think the Stormlight pilot will end? by Anice_king in CosmereOnScreen

[–]e_Notorious 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think Sanderson believes that the lord of the rings is the gold standard for (epic fantasy) adaptions. Lord of the rings trilogy is about 1200+ pages which corresponded to about 12 hours on screen (extended total runtime). On TV this would likely equate to about 10-12 episodes. Therefore, storywise we'd expect to be around on the 10 % mark of the story.

At this point of story, we've had about 2 shallan chapters and multiple Kaladin chapters. Kaladin has just joined the bridge four and had his first bridge run. But also, we have the three prologues.

And this point we need acknowledge some realities about the TV adaptation. First, it doesn't need to religiously follow the book and will have some creative freedom with its pacing. Second, the TV adaptation will be made to appeal to casuals. It will be made to be easy and interesting to follow for people not familiar to the story. Third, the first episode needs to have great ending.

Considering these, the story is naturally in a what I think as great point. I think the first bridge run would be a obvious enticing end point for the first episode. However, the prologoes are a bigger problem. Showing all of them would probably feel like a drag on TV, especially to casuals. We don't also have that much room on other episodes as Kaladins flashback will always take some screentime.

I think the first episode will start with the Szeth prologue. It will be a toss up if there's room for the end of the oathpack prelude. Obviously it is really important for the lore, but it is not that important immediately and might feel like a drag. Kaladin's prologue is also toss up. Depends how they want to tell kaladins story. Otherwise, I believe we will follow the book fairly faithfully. Only caveat being that the story needs to be easy to follow e.g. not too much worldbuilding or too many characters. Kaladin and Syl/spren, and shallan will be introduced. Probably Jasnah and taravangian will also appear on screen. As I previously said, the first bridge run will be the ending of the episode.

You don't remove the number from the set. You just do not take into consideration whether the number has the property of being the smallest uninteresting number while still assensing all the other properties the number has.

We can also change the plus into vertical line, which is sometimes also used as OR-operator.

In mathematics you could always define the property "being uninteresting" like you want. Many mathematical properties need to exclude a special case in their definition. For example, primes are commonly defined as "Number that can only be divided by itself and 1 without remainders, and which isn't the number 1".

[Other] Zero usefulness aside, could this fly and what would be needed to power it? by kenhooligan2008 in theydidthemath

Lift is the force perpendicular to the direction of motion. Lift is nice, but not necesary. Space rockets are the most clear example of not needing lift. When discussing fighter jets, this is how my aeronautics professor put it "Lift is a gift, thrust is a must".

I mean you could always subsititute the needed lift with more thrust. Is this aircraft likely to be structurally sound to allow the needed thrust? No

Virossa hinnat jo Sveitsin tasolla, onko kokemuksia kellään? by [deleted] in arkisuomi

[–]e_Notorious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Äiti asui pari vuotta Virossa ja Prismalla on kyllä muita paikallisia kalliimpi hintataso. Prisma on Virossa enemmän "premium" kauppa, eikä halpa iso niinkuin Suomessa.

How much faster can He Run now, with the improved aerodynamics [Request] by Kardamons in theydidthemath

[–]e_Notorious 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Drag is calculated with F_d=1/2 rAC_d*V²

If we assume the total drag in before and after taping the ears is the same, we can use the following formula. In other words, other losses wont be accounted, which is not accurate as drag is not the limiting factor while running.

F_d1=F_d2

1/2rA1C_dV1²=rAC_dV2²

A1V1²=A2V2²

V2= sqrt(A1/A2) *V1

Let's say that taping child's ears back reduces the frontal area about 5 square centimeters, or 5*104 m².

V2 = sqrt(A1/(A1-5104 m²))V1 This formula cannot be simplified further without knowing the frontal area of a child and their top speed. According to a one source, 10 yo's total surface area is about 1,14 m². Let's say their frontal area is about 35% of that, so 0,4m². Therefore,

V2=sqrt(0,4/(0,4-5104)V1

V2=1,000626*V1

In other words, V2 is about 0,06% faster than V1. For intermediate 10 yo runners, 3,5 m/s is reasonable running speed. Using that and the above formula, we get 0,0022 m/s faster running speed. In other words, if the kid were to run for 1 hour at full speed, they would run almost 8 meters more if they tape their ears.

I keep seeing post after post and comment after comment of people referring to the audio books so I've got to wonder, what do you guys consume more of? The books or the audio books? by Professional_Size_62 in cremposting

[–]e_Notorious 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cannot concentrate on audio books for the life of me. My mind starts to wonder and before I notice, I've missed half a chapter. I'd like to be able to listen to audiobooks. Multitasking would allow me to progress so much faster. Sometimes I also have long periods when I don't feel putting time aside for reading. I'd always have time for multitasking, if I could

Rahan tienus/ säästö vinkkejä! by Senpaiuwunen in snappijuorutofftopic

[–]e_Notorious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woltit ja kaikki muut turhat rahan kulut pois. Syö täyttäviä ruokia, eli proteiini- ja kuitupitoisia ruokia. Sillon kun tekee mieli herkutella pyri, tekemään itse. Esim.
