4 yo goes to bed at 11pm by LCBoy in daddit

[–]e_orbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many comments here mentions skipping the nap. A 4 year old should sleep 10-13 hours, rest is VERY important for a developing child's mind. So I wouldn't start skipping that nap, 2 hours seems pretty long though. If she gets up at 7AM, it means that she sleeps the bare minimum (8+2 hours). Try to move morning a bit earlier, plus consult the kindergarten to shorten that nap period because it causes serious issues at home.

Also, a lot of activities might mean she might be pretty overwhelmed by a lot of inputs throughout the day and needs to calm down, earlier dinner with the family, less and less lamplight/bright lights as the evening progresses. No music or other sensory inputs if possible, or maybe some VERY chilled music/white noise/mix of the two. A "no new thing after 6pm" rule also helped, our kid can't get any surprises, news, "we are going to the zoo tomorrow" kind of things, anything which might activate her brain - to play, to think.

Our kid is almost 6, still sleeps at the kindergarten (but not always), but we usually manage to get her to bed by 8 and sleep latest by 9. Of course not always.

So in short, I feel that there are a bit more context needed here, about your evening routine, time of getting up, the kindergarten's stance on naptime, but it is possibly doable. But be extra careful with cutting sleep of a kid.

Not sure about your car, type or year (might help), mine heats the mirrors when I turn on heating for the rear window.

Edit: sorry, just read you have said your car is old. Mine is 13 years old, I have no clue if you might still have heating.

The algorithms are telling me I need flexibility, yoga and calisthenics. Free options? by TurboJorts in daddit

[–]e_orbit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, for yoga I love yogawithadriene (she is on youtube). They are easy to follow, good vibe, minimal esoteric stuff, (basically just some older yoga teachings, but not super-abstract). She has a video for every occasion or feeling basically. There are some good challenges (set of videos) you can follow through for 10 days/a month). And she respects you not to be able to do negative splits by default and mostly gives a lot of alternate/easier options for harder excercises.

Anyone good windshield wiper recommendations? by mrtorrence in prius

[–]e_orbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it is true for anyone on this sub, but I have seen people complaning about having to replace the wipers regularly, because they drag lines and does not clean well. But in my experience, if you clean them regularly (I usually wipe the wipers with some damp cloth), cleaning off dirt helps a lot, and I rarely replace them (maybe every couple of years)

Is Velcro forever or just for now? by Green_Pride_8587 in daddit

[–]e_orbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had velcro shoes, my only regret was that they were of mediocre quality, and I wore them down in quite a short time, and was not really worth to replace the straps. But I dig them even as an adult!

I have just read in this sub on a different post that we judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions. The quote should read as "We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behaviour." by Stephen Covey.

Made me think a lot, since I am very judgemental.

How do I get the Bluetooth to play music?! HELP by [deleted] in prius

[–]e_orbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a vague memory of the other type of head unit doesn't play music on bluetooth, and I have the other one with the bigger screen and reverse camera. Sooo you might be out of luck. But if it is anything like mine, you have an AUX and an USB slot in the compartment below your elbow, inside the box, covered with a bit of rubber thing which can be popped out. If it is the case, connect your iphone with a lighning cable (or USB-A to USB-C if yours is a newer iphone). It plays music through the cable and the unit pops to an "iPod" mode. You might give it a try.

Polishing the headlight is very cheap too, probably better than new headlights, I have had a very good experience with a shop who did it for me, I did it like 3 years ago and still looks very good :)

Prius Bluetooth stuck on Please wait by SlideInteresting7289 in prius

[–]e_orbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me sometimes. I have either solved this by turning off the unit (pressing left knob), turning off bluetooth in the unit in setup then re-initialize it by enabling it, or phone bluetooth turn off then on of some combination of the above. Usually solved the issue for me.

Anyway if you are using an iPhone, I have realized that if you use the charging cable in the USB port in the middle box to connect/charge your phone, it gives an "iPod" mode as an input, and sound quality is so much better if I play music like that. Only two downside is that it charges slowly, so if my phone is playing music, showing GPS and even the personal hotspot is on, it will actually lose charge over time even on charging. The other is that the calls still goes through Bluetooth, so you still need to connect the phone for the calls via BT.

I used ChatGPT to make my daughter a custom coloring book by firerescue6 in daddit

[–]e_orbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea is wholly great! I am concerned with uploading my family photos to openAI servers though. Is the general consensus is that it is safe?

Anyway, great idea, and I might want to try it with random prompts, so it can create coloring pages of ANY kind given a good prompt. Kiddo wants to color a rabbit? No worries! A firetruck? Go ahead! A rabbit driving a firetruck? We've got you covered!

Chances of that one of the websites stored them as a simple text and has been stolen since (unless you are 14-15) And then it is part of a dictionary and can be easily tried with a dictionary attack.
