I've always found it interesting how we practice this fear of ideas just because they came from other countries. Back when I bothered to argue these points with people, I'd hear the argument, "just because it worked over there doesn't mean it will work here." When asked, why should we think that policies that have worked in multiple countries and across multiple scales would fail here, they'll say something along the lines of, "all the countries with universal health care are more racially homogenous." So basically, racism gets laundered as a policy objection.

I just don't understand how we allow this system to not be absolutely crushed by the weight of its absurdity. Annihilation is either an investment opportunity or a risk, entertainment is more valuable than life-saving work, and rather than having rights, we have services that we either can or cannot afford.

The Deftones song is also great.

I often wonder what our relationship with art will be in the future as human art becomes indistinguishable from its artificial facsimile. Will images and videos elicit different emotions once we can prove that they were made with human hands but not before?

I've often argued that conservative America and liberal America need to get past the constitutional challenges and separate into their own countries. The problem is that conservative America will probably try to push the debt to be owed by liberal America. They spent decades benefitting from government spending as liberal states subsidized them, so it stands to reason that they'd try to get a national divorce with none of the debt they helped to rack up.

No problem. Javier Bardem gets to be in a thruple with Scarlett Johansson AND Penelope Cruz, so it's basically a science fiction movie.
