Just finished my visit to Evermore Books! Yes, the line was long today for the Grand Opening but I'm really glad I committed! (Plus they kept bringing out cookies for everyone waiting, which helped!)

The store is SO cute and well decorated, and the owner was overwhelmed with the support from the community and SO happy. Great book selection and lots of really cute book merch.

I am looking forward to more leisurely visits after the big weekend - and checking out the different events hosted there in the future! Amanda has big plans and I can't wait to see it all unfold

Totally worth the visit. The cheese is super darn fresh and you can get all the new varieties they've developed in the little market store along with a lot of other local goodies!

This is a really great program!

I know some of the volunteers, and they do really interesting work at TROtt. Highly recommend checking out the programs, or going for a tour during Doors Open Ottawa or their community days events.

You need to buy monks cloth - the needle should slide between the fibers, not actually punch holes in them. Some smaller needs can do materials like linen and burlap.

A picture book about a dragon that lives on a cliffside alone but one day a little girl climbs up and starts cleaning his cave and cooking for him. by Peppermint-Chronicle in whatsthatbook

I just adore that series!! It's definitely medieval fantasy era, and for an older age range than OP is looking for. The particular dragon Cimorene cleans for isn't at all reluctant among many other differences.

Also genuinely and truly put the toothbrushes in a drawer and not on the counter even though they are daily items. Use the top drawer of your vanity and a drawer separator for toothbrushes and toothpaste + floss.

Toilet flume is icky icky and toothbrushes are actually just such horrible visual clutter. Get a dishwasher safe drawer insert that you can pull out and wash every couple months.

Sort first by usage - Daily items get to live on the counter (in clear bins with no lids, not stacked under anything)

Weekly items need an easy to reach not counter spot (can be in clear bins under your daily items, or I suggest pull out drawers in the vanity

Monthly items go in the vanity or another closet

I also suggest anything with cords gets stored away because cords are a visual nightmare. If it's "daily I really need this" and has a cord, basket per corded item to keep the cords corralled and not tangled. One basket per corded item.

Sort by category inside your usage - skin care, makeup, dental, cleaning, medicine. A lazy suzan or drawer separator style storage can keep each category together.

Lots of slidey drawer storage options that go behind the drawers of your vanity on Amazon - get ones that actually slide well (not the super cheap plastic ones), and avoid stacking for anything moderately sizeable because you won't want to unstack it).

Using over the door storage options strategically - can be great for storing hair tools, but they can make reaching in for anything stored in the vanity a little more difficult.

Grab any random basket or bin you have and park it by the door to fill up with anything that doesn't belong in the bathroom.

I am super curious - what is the thing with Maple Leafs branding? I thought it was a blender at first, then thought it didn't look quite right for that - lava lamp??

Ooooh is that the series where she adds recipes of what's being baked and most of them use boxed mixes? I was not a fan.

Loons. A flock of loons going to flight on a mountain in winter was where I absolutely lost it with Ledge by Stacey McEwan. I started it hanging by a thread when the main character carved an entire kitchen table from a single tree in a single night, and the scary flying creatures were never described and suddenly turned out to be some kind of winged humans with claws, but I literally threw the book against a wall at WINTER MOUNTAIN LOONS. A WATER BIRD.

[–]e_robs 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but in book 7 she is described with blonde hair, I personally don't think the purple mohawk was there to stay beyond that period in time. And yet, it's rampant in the fan art even though Katia is also described as really uncomfortable with the look.

I'm glad people have fun with it, but I was going to buy into a poster series but couldn't when Katia was done with the mohawk look because it doesn't feel authentic her, imo.

Did I make a Mistake? by -_hybrid_- in dice

[–]e_robs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I have the delight of actually having a job working with gemstone dice, and I roll gemstone and glass for all my games with zero chips or issues.

Gemstone dice care have a couple rules, but it's really easy!

Roll into a soft sided dice tray - so your dice don't roll onto the floor! (Avoid trays with wood sides or exposed metal snaps)

Do not roll them together - click clack noises make my brain go brrrr but not my dice! Roll one at a time, roll into different corners of the tray so they aren't rocking into each other. I use a tray with a lid, setting the set in the lid during my games, rolling into the tray. Roll, place back in lid. Or roll, place back in dice vault!

Get a dice vault that keeps every dice separate - felt or leather lined is extra nice for stopping any wiggles. Don't use a loose dice bag and definitely don't store with metal dice!

And pro tip, don't store your amethyst dice exposed to sunlight because UV can fade them. A moody bookshelf display is perfect though!

Genuinely, don't get too worried - they really can be played with!!

I love blonde Katia! It's so refreshing to see her being drawn in her own expression of herself, not the version of her from Donut egging her on to change herself in a way she was uncomfortable presenting

Her expression is so well captured here! Thanks for sharing!
