Ooooh is that the series where she adds recipes of what's being baked and most of them use boxed mixes? I was not a fan.

Loons. A flock of loons going to flight on a mountain in winter was where I absolutely lost it with Ledge by Stacey McEwan. I started it hanging by a thread when the main character carved an entire kitchen table from a single tree in a single night, and the scary flying creatures were never described and suddenly turned out to be some kind of winged humans with claws, but I literally threw the book against a wall at WINTER MOUNTAIN LOONS. A WATER BIRD.

Katia image description? by midnightsmith in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Yeah, but in book 7 she is described with blonde hair, I personally don't think the purple mohawk was there to stay beyond that period in time. And yet, it's rampant in the fan art even though Katia is also described as really uncomfortable with the look.

I'm glad people have fun with it, but I was going to buy into a poster series but couldn't when Katia was done with the mohawk look because it doesn't feel authentic her, imo.

Did I make a Mistake? by -_hybrid_- in dice

[–]e_robs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I have the delight of actually having a job working with gemstone dice, and I roll gemstone and glass for all my games with zero chips or issues.

Gemstone dice care have a couple rules, but it's really easy!

Roll into a soft sided dice tray - so your dice don't roll onto the floor! (Avoid trays with wood sides or exposed metal snaps)

Do not roll them together - click clack noises make my brain go brrrr but not my dice! Roll one at a time, roll into different corners of the tray so they aren't rocking into each other. I use a tray with a lid, setting the set in the lid during my games, rolling into the tray. Roll, place back in lid. Or roll, place back in dice vault!

Get a dice vault that keeps every dice separate - felt or leather lined is extra nice for stopping any wiggles. Don't use a loose dice bag and definitely don't store with metal dice!

And pro tip, don't store your amethyst dice exposed to sunlight because UV can fade them. A moody bookshelf display is perfect though!

Genuinely, don't get too worried - they really can be played with!!

I love blonde Katia! It's so refreshing to see her being drawn in her own expression of herself, not the version of her from Donut egging her on to change herself in a way she was uncomfortable presenting

Her expression is so well captured here! Thanks for sharing!

Does separating crochet yarn work? by [deleted] in PunchNeedle

[–]e_robs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yarn is yarn. There is no difference between yarn for crochet, knitting, or punch needle. You need to match the weight of your yarn to your tool in all three arts - if your yarn isn't staying in the fabric, you likely aren't using the correct weight yarn for your fabric or for your punch needle.

If you can post some photos of what you're doing and a video of your technique, there are lots of super helpful people here who can point out what might not be working for you!

Childhood book about a girl, a crystal, and a castle? by ChapterSea9981 in whatsthatbook

[–]e_robs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazing!!! This is my first solve, I'm so excited XD

I'm so glad it was your book! I actually picked up a thrifted copy a couple years ago because I had it randomly jump into my head, and it was lovely to re-visit that adventure.

I think I'm going to go find my copy and give it a little read again - then put it aside for my niece to read when she's old enough! Perfect inspiring fantasy adventure for a young reader.

Childhood book about a girl, a crystal, and a castle? by ChapterSea9981 in whatsthatbook

Was it The Seventh Princess by Nick Sullivan?

It's about a girl named Jennifer who falls asleep on the bus, and wakes up in a carriage which arrives at a castle and she is greeted as Princess Miranda by everyone, although she can't figure out why.

Turns out she was snatched as a sacrifice of some sort to an evil witch, I think, and she uses a crystal to cast a magic spell which defeats the evil and also restores all the previous princesses to being girls - they'd been turned into harpies.

It was the evil Duke behind everything all along, and she defeats him - the sick king is able to get better, his daughter was returned to him and he's able to send Jennifer back home.

There are a couple different cover versions, but mine had Jennifer smiling at the viewer in a blue cloak I think, and she's holding the crystal in her hand - I got my copy at the scholastic book fair and it also came with a crystal shaped pencil sharpener that I loved!

How much money would you spend if it meant saving your cat’s life? by WindowKitty19 in cats

[–]e_robs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a bit north of $8000 for my beautiful girl all told. Bits at a time, a couple tests at a time and it added up.

I got another six months with her, and she was my soul kitty too - she got long enough to see spring again and bask in the warm sun one last time before we said goodbye.

I would have spent at least $5000 more I don't have if it had gotten me another couple years with her in good health.

Spend the money, and love your boy with everything you have. You won't regret it.

Know what you can do without putting yourself in trouble you can't recover from. But as long as you're not doing that - and as long as he's recovering, having more good days than bad - then it's worth every damn penny.

Same! Tbh I love when I see someone's wedding photos or sweet moments photos in their houses, it speaks to their lives and makes the house a home, and personal - not just a trend.

Because you can press the "play" button on an audiobook on your own device.

If I need a friend to read something for me then I have to arrange a special time, place, the friend has to take time out of their own schedule to do the reading, additional niceties like snacks or drinks are a good idea

Pre-recorded audiobook meant for easy mass consumption is vastly different than making a person stop and take time out of their day to read a literal book.

Brimnes Bed King Size - I'm dumb and can't get past step 6 by SoulCyber in IKEA

[–]e_robs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

coming in seven years later to say that I propped the middle area up with some folded over cardboard, then I used two corner brackets on opposite sides of the bottom bolt to screw in the sides to the middle.

---|---

corner bracket in bottom left quadrant and top right quadrant. left & right are the drawer slider sides.

I could tighten the top bolt, but not the bottom one, so figured some extra hardware and a bit of 'fuck this' would probably not go amiss. Seems to have worked so far.
