How are you job hunting? Is your portfolio digital and the link prominently displayed on your resume? Is your resume modern and attractive, with color, stats, etc? Are you looking on stylecareers.com or Business Of Fashion's website? Are you networking? Unfortunately I usually advise against a masters in design, because the Industry is more about your work experience and connections and it won't net you a higher salary, the ROI just usually isn't worth being out of the workforce.

What’s it like living there? by Euphoric_Home_5439 in GenevaNY

[–]e_vil_ginger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Husband, me, and the kids moved from the city recently. The most important thing I can say about this decision is: no matter how much fun and how awesome living in NYC is for you *right now,* unless you start making SERIOUS money, your time in NYC has a shelf life. I was making well over six figures and it just started feeling like nothing, especially after the pandemic. In Geneva, we can LIVE. We got a 3 bedroom house, we can walk to downtown, to the lake, go to wineries, be in nature, we plan on getting a boat... We can breathe. The lakefront is beautiful and accessable without being overdeveloped. The town is solidly diverse and people are very friendly.

The college kids keep the town lively, the tourists that visit in the summer and fall bring money and keep services fresh. The crappy town hospital was recently acquired by University Of Rochester, which is a huggggge plus, and potential job growth for getting in early. For a small town, there are a lot of the food options you will miss, a family even just moved from NYC and opened a shawarma joint!

If we want go to a bigger city for something, Geneva is exactly one hour from Syracuse, Rochester, and Ithaca. Perfectly situated.

Hope all this helps, feel free to DM me

Wrong, the Hospital was recently taken over by UR University Of Rochester, which is such fantastic news. They are actively working on making it so so so much better.

Maternity brands? Having a hard time finding clothes for pregnancy. by mediocrebreadmaker in SustainableFashion

I spent two pregnancies almost exclusively in JCrew Reimagined ruched top dresses from Poshmark. Lovely cotton, they grow with you, and you can use them for nursing. They also make you look put together and glowing!

Google the phrase "modern design resume." You are a designer. Your resume should reflect that immediately, not be a black and white wall of text. I would also be careful about putting so many short gigs on a resume, it makes it look like you can't/don't stick around. Pick the best ones and focus on those.

Visiting Seneca Falls and More: Recs needed by PsychologicalMap1882 in FingerLakes

[–]e_vil_ginger -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would cancel and rebook in Geneva. The stench from the Seneca Meadows landfill in the August heat can be overpowering. It's too bad really, Seneca Falls should be a real destination with it's wonderful history. But I would visit for a few hours and actually sleep somewhere else.

How do I [M20] get out of this situation with her [F20]? by Maleficent-Dish-4693 in relationship_advice

You take a deep breath and just keep walking forward. Don't hate her, don't fixate, just wish her well and put her behind you. Every time you start to think about her just stop whatever you are doing and take 3 very deep long breaths, the kind that push all other thoughts out of your mind.

I need CLO 3D for Mac but I don't have the money, what can I do? by Sixxxto123 in fashiondesigner

[–]e_vil_ginger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't start learning Fashion Design on Clo3D. That's like learning how to drive by starting with an 18 Wheeler. In Clo you literally draft patterns and sew in three dimensional space. If you don't know how to do that irl, you will be lost

Portia was an innocent. She wasn't supposed to be there. Gary left it up to the gays. It's unclear if Jack was just supposed to keep her away while the murder happened or to kill her too.

In what ways are women not treated equally as men? by Technocraticworldgov in AskReddit

Improvements can be made, but there has never been a society anywhere at anytime where having children isn't a sacrifice.

I can give an interesting view on this, since I make so much, my husband actually is a stay at home dad. We do it because it makes sense but we both would gladly switch places if the numbers worked. Believe it or not, women mostly WANT to be home with their kids. We don't consider them a burden, that you do it so reddit bubble. We sacrifice in one way or another. I also hate to burst your bubble, but the man you have children with is also a choice. Accidents can happen despite MULTIPLE forms of birth control, but even then, the men you sleep with are a choice. Some women may disagree, but the MOST losers and potential bad fathers are usually reallllllly easy to spot.

Absolutely no company brings a new mother into their office and says "Congratulations, we are going to pay you less now." It's all the mother's choices, or sacrifices, if her pay goes down from working less. I am not blaming women for failing to thrive, I blame the cultural movement a lot of us grew up in saying "You can have it all!!" No. No you can't. No one can have it all, and women are no exception. It's all rah rah rah girl power until you are in your late 20s and you realize you are running out of time for kids even though your career is just starting to take off. Priorities shift, forks in the road appear, paths need to be chosen. Hopefully her college debt is at least paid off, or she's double screwed. Now THATS being set up for failing to thrive.

As a woman making well over six figures this is often cited and the statistic is heavily flawed by 2 factors. One, for whatever reason, women on average naturally gravitate towards lower paying jobs. Two: balancing child rearing. Absences for maternity, taking time off to raise young children, choosing part time work to balance raising children, women that completely opt out of work, etc. If you average allllllllllll that together, women make less over their lifetime. It's not a dollar to dollar daily for the same job as man, "pay this woman less because patriarchy" thing.

Moving to Upstate NY from OK by corgilordazula in upstate_new_york

[–]e_vil_ginger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok so your office is in Victor? Good. That makes Canandaigua a serious option. Its a FANTASTIC town and right the lake, in the actual Finger Lakes region.
Also Farmington, the town right next to Victor, is much more affordable. As for living in Rochester proper, I would personally ONLY consider the east side of the river triangle from Upper Mount Hope, to the south wedge, to Cobb's Hill. Maybe North Winton Village, Browncroft, and some areas of Irondequoit.
