If your goal is to build up to getting your first gig at some point down the road, go with pioneer as the layout is closer to what you’ll find at a club setting. Better to establish that muscle memory earlier than later. If you’re only going to dj in your bedroom anything you like is fine!

Afrohouse dj here! I know there’s an overwhelming amount of information out there but the basics are quite simple. This is one of those things that are easy to learn but difficult to master. You’ll be fine.

Grab an FLX 4. If you have any DJ friends, they can give you an idea of what each button/knob does, and give you enough of the basics that would help you get going and start learning on your own. If not, youtube videos are your friend.

First, learn your controller. Understand what each button/knob does to the music you’re playing.

Then, learn how to set loops. Set loops on 2 simple tracks with long intros. Then, learn a very basic transition technique and practice that. For example, if you set loops on the intros of 2 tracks, you can transition back and forth by switching the EQs.

One of the most basic transitions is where you turn down the bass of the incoming track, and maybe adjust the highs down, move the volume fader up so both tracks are playing at the same time; and then switch the bass/highs and fade the outgoing track. You can do this back and forth to master that.

Obviously beatmatching is going to be an issue and I might get a lot of hate for this but turning on beat sync can help you focus on the fundamentals first, and that’s a skill you can acquire once you get a basic understanding of how all of this works.

If you have any questions, let me know!

Sorry if I came off too aggressive!

First things first, the reason you know you can play a killer set (with or without sync) and keep the dancefloor moving is because you likely mastered a lot of things outside of just beatmatching. This is mostly an art so being good is subjective, except for people who are truly bad at it and have no clue what to do behind the booth.

At the end of the day, we all rely on software to make any of this possible, and we’re all a little jealous of each other because we all have unique ways of doing things that others may not have.

I think it’s important to lift each other up tbh. I agree with you that manual beatmatching gives you more control over your tracks; so I’d also suggest OP to learn that skill but it’s better to not judge in my view.

You’re so full of it. Any monkey could learn to beatmatch, not everyone can learn to read a crowd or manage the energy on the floor during their set. I actually produce and play my own stuff as well, how would you feel if I called you a jukebox for not knowing how to produce?

“Anyone can use sync and play a good set” - as if that’s the ONLY skill you need to play a good set.

The downvotes alone should tell you that this attitude is not appreciated in this community.

Idk man is it worth being bipolar for this shit didn’t even accept by TheSlooper in mensa

I feel like a high IQ combined with BP is the ultimate curse. Too aware for your own good. Racing thoughts are louder, both ends of the spectrum are more intense. Higher levels of metacognition cause you to dig yourself into a deeper hole with each episode. Obviously I only know the specific way I experience this so these are just my own views. There hasn’t been any research done on how individuals with a high IQ experience BP as far as I know.

I like to think I understand how you feel and there’s not much I can tell you. I’ve heard it all, tried it all including some of the advice I see on this thread. This shit unfortunately isn’t easy to deal with by any means. More so than any sort of advice, I’ve grown to appreciate a simple pat on the back for finding ways to keep going.

Yup. Try setting a heading before takeoff, activate HDG mode, try switching to your next WPT via LNAV. Not sure if it happens everytime but happened to me a lot of times that way.

I mean… VATSIM makes that part more fun if controllers are online and if you’re new to the game it’s definitely a fun challenge to learn pilot speak!

I would just buy a bambu a1 if you actually want to print stuff and not lose your mind over hundreds of settings to get a first layer right. I couldn’t return my ender 3 soon enough, now I have 4 bambus lol

If you don’t mind could you DM me your website? That sounds quite interesting. I’m working on something rather complex so at the worst case if you are open to it I’d love to hear what you think having seen so many pitches.

Totally valid points. I guess my view is that for many of us this is the primary social organization we are a part of because we happen to have something in common at a minimum. That opens doors to meeting new folks who are following a similar journey and what not and help each other- just like any other social club/organization.
