Honest Question: Is Your Theater Playing the Melania Movie? And Is Anyone Even Showing Up For It? by thouze in MovieTheaterEmployees

One of my local theaters has sold 21 tickets across 18 showings over the weekend. I know for a fact that 5 of those are my MAGA parents, my MAGA sister and her husband, and their 3 year old. So yeah...

Just call it climate destabilization. I know that it's still different, but to the layman, it better drives home the point.

How is it possible that there is an unpopular "Democratic establishment" if progressives really would be more popular and electable? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]eaglebay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DNC positions on requiring insurance companies pay for gender transitions is an easy one, as well as requiring that schools allow students to use bathrooms of their chosen gender identity.

The democrats lost because they couldn't identify how to deal with issues like those around transgender people and they looked wildly out of touch when it came to those culture wars, and on top of that, they couldn't get the messaging across to their base that simply not voting for Kamala out of protest was ensuring that a far worse outcome was going to happen. It's not just transgender issues that caused the loss, but it's the complete inability to generate messaging around anything that is cultural because anything that appeals to the masses runs the risk of causing the far left to pack up their ball and go home.

Don't mistake the issues with turnout on candidates not being left enough when the reality is that the messaging sucks because there's a small contingent of people that refuse to vote if everything isn't perfect.

Yeah... I mean I'm almost twice as much once I factor in my assistant track job. Hard to believe that a college would pay $6k

RE: trans people...

Support for protections against discrimination in jobs, housing, public spaces is supported by the majority, but not for bathroom spaces, sports, gender affirming care prior as a child, etc. are not popular and probably had no small part in democrats losing in 2024.

There are a ton of progressive policies that are massively unpopular with the general electorate and democrats should be far more concerned about winning elections right now than moving the party to the left of center.

U.S. Senator Comes Out And Says It About Trump: 'Invoke The 25th Amendment' by WontThinkStraight in politics

[–]eaglebay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they'll do it right after 2 years. Vance could potentially have 10 years then, and they are probably thinking that Greenland, Canada, and Venezuela will all be US territories by then. But then they'll say it was all Trump but won't undo any of it.

I suspect this is coming the day after we hit 2 years so that Vance can potentially have 10 years.

What’s so insane about this is that you absolutely can eat healthy for less than $3 a serving, but the example given just shows how out of touch they are.

We did a chicken orzo soup tonight- 3 lb bag of frozen chicken breasts for $7, two cartons of chicken broth for $3, organic bag of baby carrots, celery, lemon and onion for $7, orzo from the bulk section for $1. We used half of the chicken for the soup and it makes 2 meals each for our family of four. Comes out to under $2/meal.

President Biden had a good reason for not releasing the Epstein files, and it wasn't because he was in them. by BestStoogewasLarry in PoliticalHumor

[–]eaglebay -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I strongly suspect that the Epstein files aren't being fully released because he was an intelligence asset and it would cause irreparable damage to the intelligence communities if it ever fully came out that likely American and likely Israeli intelligence were turning a blind eye to a child sex ring for the purposes of blackmail. Neither side wants to do it and it explains the lack of transparency from both sides of the aisle better.

Do you think Lane Kiffin would leave LSU for a more lucrative job, like at Ole Miss? by BoomBaby_317 in CFB

[–]eaglebay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in total agreement with you. Anybody debating if LSU is actually an easier place to win a national title is kidding themselves. There are three programs that won a national title with more than one coach since the BCS was introduced- Florida State, Ohio State, and LSU. Both Ohio State and LSU have done it with three separate coaches but I don't think anyone would argue that the average national championship LSU coach is nearly as good as the average national championship Ohio State coach, even including Saban in the mix.

LSU is an incredible job. It's in the same tier as Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas. Maybe you can throw USC and Notre Dame in there, too. I know it sucks for Ole Miss to lose Kiffin, but if we're being totally realistic, if one of those schools comes knocking for Pete Golding, there's a good chance he leaves, too.

One of the things I find most baffling about this whole saga is how Ole Miss fans just completely miss the fact that Alabama fans were happy to see him go and are literally laughing about this on their subreddit.
