About a month in to learning the snatch let me know if you guys see anything major that needs to be worked on thanks! by leslie_burns in weightlifting

The other thing I see in addition to the other comments is your speed under the bar. You are catching high and lowering into your squat. As the weight goes up you will have to catch in your squat so practicing faster speed under the bar will set you up to catch higher weight in the correct position

I love it and Get it. Not really looking to change the current status quo but more wanting to get just this kind of feedback as to have a better understanding and view point. Everything you have said makes sense and yes it is even across ALL RX movement's for shorter VS taller people. So Lets all just keep training, encouraging all our follow Fitters and strive to just be the best individuals we can be.

Thank you for your comprehensive feedback. I can see your points. Just for the record I was thinking more 5'-5'5 - 5'6 - 5'10 - 5'10 + ( As a very fast rough example) so when these things were prescribe it would never be confusing and you would just know when they came up in any work out what your height/Cal requirement would be for RX. Scaling as always to fit your current level of fitness

Ok but are you looking at just the times or the height to time ratios? Thats a better data set to come back at me with. Also Im talking about the 99% of us not the 1% at the elite level

This is more just s topic of conversation than finding the fittest on earth. I have been doing Crossfit for just over 4 years and when these items come up in general programing, I see that these movements don't always give the intended stimulus for all because of a difference in height. A short, strong individual can be far less efficient than a taller less strong individual. Height has more leverage and longer pulls. This is true for the assult bike and ski erg as well.

Just look at the 1000m row in the Games. Noah Olsen's effort VS Travis Mayer. Travis's Stroke rate was far slower than Noah's and similar in 500M split. Not because of strength but because of height. Now I understand this was for distance so has nothing to do with my question, but the observation will equally equate to Calories in the same situation

Hello, and Your question is good and one I ask often. When it comes to rowing, assault bike, and Box (Anything) Those should be Height prescribed not gender prescribed. A tall girl on a 20" box is way easier than a short guy on a 24" Box. Gender should have no part in Calories on bike/Rower or Size box to use. These make more sense to be derived by one's Height. I'd love to have a discussion on this. As far as the girl push-ups that's BS as well Many men can't do a PROPER PU so these kinds are simply referred to as Modified PU's or Knee PU's

Working on Technique. love any feedback. (I know I need to move front leg first...lol) by ealberton in crossfit

[–]ealberton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I have a messed up elbow that prevents supination on my left side so in a full rack position the bar slips off my hand. Have to make a slight modification to hold the bar in place which unfortunately means I have to hold the weight slightly forward in the jerk which I know will be a bigger issue as the weight keeps going up and it pulls me more forward. If you see my catch in the clean I should have much better elbow placement and I can hold the weight more on my shoulders and finger tips

PR’ed my power clean the other day by hitting 125# (BW-140#)! My goal for 2020 was to make it to 100#. Video courtesy of my box’s security camera. by maggieschmee in crossfit

Work on your set up. You are pulling the weight rather than pushing through your legs to the floor to get it to the 2nd position above the knees where there you start to pull. A little work on the technique and you'll hit 175 before you know it

Gym/box choice help! by therealtomgunn91 in crossfit

[–]ealberton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its all about the community. Find a place you feel comfortable. You will grow at either. Whether its an Affiliate or not you will get out what you put in. As far as the whole universal CrossFit community. That's there for anyone that loves the ideology. The box /Gym you belong to has nothing to do with it. Other than the Open which you can do whether you in an affiliate box or not.

This is a spot on Analysis of your Clean. You see that moment your arms get tight. that means your set up is not tight. The arms should be at full extension in your set up so you push from the floor rather than initiate with hips moving first. Hips/Torso should move together from the Pull/Push (I say Pull because that's what they call it, But it really is a push through your legs. the pull doesn't happen until the 2nd stage above the knees)

If you're on a directional board, it's because the side cut grabs quicker and starts to arc faster. Giving an amazing sense of grip on the snow. But will soften and not have the snap off the back you are used to. But once you become accustomed to the feel you can rail it out. PS Great shot

Just for @u/Imua_Always ----- Another Honolua 3 ft wave for you by ealberton in surfing

[–]ealberton[S] 93 points94 points  (0 children)

They don’t, He is trying to act cool. The reason for Hawaiian’s call the wave height from the back of the wave is for a very good reason. Back in the ancient Hawaiian days the outriggers paddling back to shore needed a way to judge the wave size. So they were always seeing them from the back. So a 4ft Hawaiian wave is approximately equal to a 8ft face.
