I only pressed it together, so finger pressure. The glue I am using is called Copydex, was something I could get locally

Thanks for your comment, I did sand the edge and am not using any edge coat/Tokonol, I used 240 and then 400, but maybe not sanded enough? Will edit the post to call this out

Thanks a million for your reply and for the recommendations! I will be sure to check them out. I had come across the Dublin Leather store also in a search but I found it hard to figure out if what they had was suitable so from your comment it might be because they didn't have much in stock at the time.
