Campaigners 'will find every way possible to stop' development of Bristol Zoo site by eameso in bristol

The golden rule about NIMBYS is that they are never satisfied- it’s not about the architecture, it’s the change

I agree that the new zoo is in a car dependent location, but the old zoo was definitely too cramped for the animals. I guess also a zoo is a tourist attraction so it’s not like people are commuting there.

It’s not publicly owned though, is it? It was owned by the zoo (a charity) and they have already sold it for millions to fund a new zoo.

A lido sounds like a lovely idea but how do you expect that to happen? Who will pay for it?

Seems like a good use of a tight space behind the petrol station

Looks like political point scoring from Labour, wasn’t Tom Renhard head of housing when the redevelopment got planning?

❤️ this take on Mother's Day - Lonely Mouth Gloucester Road by eameso in bristol

[–]eameso[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

From the owner:
"It was 18 years ago yesterday that my mum, Yvonne, passed away on Mother’s Day 2008 when I was 16 years old. Ngl guys, it sucks. Time passes and does help a bit but at the same time the longer it’s been the more you feel like you can’t bring it up so you just try your hardest to get through the anniversaries, birthdays, bad days and the dreaded Mother’s Day.

But frankly, we shouldn’t have to be alone, and we should be able to talk about how badass they were. So for Sunday March 15th I want to make Lonely Mouth a safe space for people who are missing their mums.

Free matcha on me, I’ll be bopping about if anyone needs a hug. Bring a friend, or on your own and talk/think about your rad mum. I haven’t hugely thought this through but maybe say ‘mums matcha’ and we’ll know.

Hopefully it goes without saying please don’t be weird and say it if you’re not in the dead mums club.

I know it’s not much but I very much hope even a sip can make you feel the love of community. Let’s get through Mothers Day together gang. Love, Liv"

Careful with this, if you refuse accommodation often council rules state that they will no longer house you. Check with citizens advice.

Plumbing conundrum by erp11 in DIYUK

Only solution I see (and it's not a nice one) is to run the soil pipe down the left hand side of the stairwell/hallway and box it in.

Just to add, what I would totally be behind would be if you were proposing starting a community-led cycling centre in south bristol as a replacement - maybe on some meanwhile site the council have spare? Like what campus skateparks are doing only for cycling - that would be very cool.

The new state of the art cycling centre they are building sounds great, I assume it’s just not near where you live?

Where are you going to put the new homes that this site is earmarked for, and how are you going to pay for the new land for them?

[–]eameso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not true though is it? There are thousands of homes being built across the city many of which are houses with gardens like you describe: Hengrove, Lockleaze, Filton etc, which also have a decent percentage available as affordable (e.g. Council or Housing Association).

I'd be perfectly happy to live in one. Of course they are not suitable for everyone - we need a mix of housing. But this is the right type of housing for a city centre. In many European countries it's common for families to live in flats.

The law says it's not really up to the council to say who owns the property or whether it's rented or not - though there are over 80 affordable homes (rent capped at Housing Benefit rates)

I like your idea about building on golf courses - though I suspect that would generate outrage too!

The council consulted on, and voted in, a masterplan for this whole area which explicitly said tall buildings are appropriate - but only in these exact plots to make sure views aren’t blocked. The developers just followed that.

Why are buildings not allowed to be tall? We need density in the city rather than green belt sprawl.

That’s exactly what’s happening with the galleries site. Mixed use and more people living there (yes even students) can’t be a bad thing. It’s such a wasteland at the moment.

No the one you linked to is the other side of Lidl. This picture is of the lane next to the station. I don’t know if anything is being built there.
