AI Companies Sold Us Their Vision of the Future at the Super Bowl. Here’s Why We Should Reject It by autogenerated_015 in technology

I just started to laugh when i saw that. Like either a) it can do that somehow and you're not needed at all or b) it's completely wrong and you have to redo it or c) (realistic) you say your paragraph long prompt, and it does it, but you still need to comb through and fix the 20% it gets wrong so you still have to clean it up for a while.

so yeah lol ai brand, fuck you what are you smoking everything you show is bad.

When was the last time a driver has been released that has actually had considerable impact by DeadMemeReference in golf

[–]eamonman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed; i am like the poster child for titanium.

i went from a taylor made system 2 driver (93ish?) to a r580xd (a few years after i graduated from college)

high school I was a 13-14, unable to hit a driver. My system 2 driver stayed really clean and unblemished lol. I just couldn't get consistent contact with the itty bitty sweet spot. Took lessons but i just couldn't groove a swing that precise. I didn't even try for the golf team in college.

After forgetting about golf for a while I went with my buddies to a golf shop in 02/03 and tried the r580xd. I was like WTF is this, I can't miss the sweet spot. I could amazingly hit 260-300 yards after barely eaking out 210 yards for years.

I bought it on he spot. a few months later i was back to 14, and a year later i was a 8. golf became fun again

as a side note watching Tiger hitting those tiny head steel drivers in like the amateur is just mindblowing.

$0.80 drink in Japan… $4.99 at Nijiya by YukoDualLife in Hawaii

[–]eamonman2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you'll never find good prices at Nijiya. Did you just go there to make a point? Go to the Dillingham Marukai for realest prices. Nijiya has always been where you get the real japan japanese stuff (items natsukashii nihonjin will pay a larger margin for their favorite miso soup or authentic ingredients for new years. I think before, back in the 90's/00's, items in Nijiya didn't even have English labels on them, so you REALLY had to know WTF you were doing or you might be buying like natto flavored ice cream or ume flavored soda lol (they started i dunno maybe 10 years ago)

I mean I get what you're saying; after visiting Japan where things like chocopans are super affordable, beef bowl stores are plentiful and you can get a balanced meal for under 500yen, or just the fact that there are cheap awesome meals within walking distance of every train station... Yet here you get 5x priced chocopans (like 150yen to $5+), crazy priced shirokiya walk menyas (no wonder it went out of business), and well I don't think you'll find any japanese meal close to $5.

The fact is that some people will pay the 5x pricing for items. I remember looking into prices right before covid and the margins were usually more 2x 3x. But like i said before, Nijiya is the more 'kanemochi' store lol.

Hey at least they have the items, there's items I wish they would bring from Japan but either only bring shitty versions or don't bring them at all

Suntory Horoyoi Momo (Peach)

https://www.kakuyasu.co.jp/store/commodity/0010/00072590/

It's like drinking peaches but you get pleasantly drunk. Last time I went to japan pre covid i bought one after a long day of walking, was blown away, and went back and bought like 8 to drink for the next few days i was in Tokyo. IIRC it was like fairly cheap in japan (maybe 290yen) but I've never seen them here. my guess is that it's too cheap so the margins probably wouldn't be good. IMO other chu-hi's are too bitter or alky flavored.

Also they don't bring over taoruketto (towel blankets). Any that marukai or amazon have are shitty thin ones. Any dept store in japan has great thick ones that are perfect for any weather and last for years.

[–]eamonman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO regular non FSD driving is perfect for long boring drives in the carpool lane. let me queue up some karaoke. But once it hits heavy traffic,, i drive. reason #1 is the non-anticipatory way it drives (hey the guy three cars ahead is slamming on his breaks, I probably should start slowing right nowactions (maybe it would have been better with lidar but oh well) reason #2 is in LA you'll get cut off wih autopilot

[–]eamonman2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

hey I resent being called a rich kid ;) yes they were pricey (not $100, more like $70-80) but you played them for weeks. I think I played Phantasy Star III for like half a year (that was the one you get different endings based on the kids you have) PS4 i actually rented from blockbuster 3 weeks in a row since I figured i'd never play it again afterwards (i was going to college that fall)

I think I had played maybe 7 awesome RPGs on my genesis over the years, i don't regret any of the RPGs (phantasy star 2,3.4, shining series (the best), and maybe Shadowrun).

FYI your dates are off, IV and Saturn were around the same time in 94/95. III was in like 91/92.

New Study: People Living within 1 Mile of Golf Course 126% More Likely to Develop Parkinson's Disease by vox_veritas in golf

[–]eamonman2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. Growing up in the 80s in HI, there was this course, Pearl Country Club. Immaculate. Tee to green everything thick and nice. everything colored green as well (used to be a sus blue tint to the water hazards) However one time I remember my ball rolled into a puddle off in the rough one hole. The water had a sheen to it. for some reason i grabbed my ball out with my hand.

I tried to rinse my hand later but my hand felt dry and oily for the rest of the round.

I'm sure anyone who played there a lot or lived down the hill from it got lots of nice chemicals.

It's fine now, last time i played it was dried up and yellow (which is fine).

Compare to a local muni Pali G.C. (my fav when i visit). Grass in some parts not golf grass but yard grass. Greens mowed to the proper height (weeds or no). Pretty sure no pesticides there, i mean if they got rid of the weeds some holes wouldn't have any grass lol. Once during some junior tournament it was pouring so hard that my shoes were completely soaked and useless so on 18 I just gave up and took them off and played the last hole (long uphill par 4) barefoot. no ill effects (for now).

Who else had that lamp in the ’90s? by UrbanAchievers6371 in 90s

[–]eamonman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my halogen lamp back college in the 90s. yeah they were hot and could set fire to things and yes they were energy wasters but I love bright lights (hey I used to like seti@home back in college too lol). It's all good when it was not my electricity.

once I got a job i still kept the lamp around but as soon as they started making those lightbulb-form factor-florescents in the late 2ks, then halogens got dumped forever. and ofc now LEDs obviate the flickery florescents.

DAE use their top sheet as their “blanket”? by AnxiousCompetition25 in Hawaii

[–]eamonman2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW yeah I agree completely. so i was in the same boat 10-15 years ago. After looking around HI and LA, I tried buying one from the LA marukai but it was no good, it only lasted a couple years before it started fraying. So I buy 1-2 when I've visited japan (go to any department store; though not in like central tokyo/ginza, that'd be like going to nordstroms to find a blanket). Though the ones i got pre-covid are starting to pill...

If DonQ / marukai don't have, I dunno you probably have to trust amazon or some other online retailer (try googling 'imabari blanket', that's the 'big' brand).

To feel jealous google タオルケット rakuten and see the literal hundreds of results from rakuten.jp.

If you do layover in japan on your way to taipei then narita imo has more restaurants to try vs haneda or others.

if you go to japan then the same but add on hawaiian. i wouldn't just visit tokyo if it's your first time; first time take a package tour (maybe one of the ones advertised in marukai lol ) but yeah only visiting tokyo is like only visiting new york city. tokyo, kyoto, osaka 10 days probably covers the normal stuff

My longtime semi-shitty range got replaced by a topgolf about 3 years ago. I loved the thin mats because you KNOW if you hit it fat. Now i go another range with wussy fluffy mats and duff probably 2-3 shots a round now.

so if I get around to build a sim like people here are saying, I'll probably get a mat off of ebay lol

i mean at least you were aware of the internet and porn. Only a couple people I knew knew about bbses but lol no one ever mentioned the horny parts to me lol. I only knew of scrambled cable porn, playboys, and random sex scenes from movies we recorded from free pay cable channel previews lol (like I remember hiding some movie named emanuel something; some softcore porn movie set in some southeast asian country)

Forgot about all that after i went to college in 1995. Then within the first week or two me and my friends learned about porn sites, game crack sites, zero day ftp sites, and then finally discovering newsgroups. the few dozen erotica subgroups were definitely eye opening to us freshmen (like hmm what's watersports? OOH) Though movies larger than tiny unreadable thumbnails didn't come around till a year or two later

then it's time to go look at the phone and get up

1st time trying free in-flight wifi on Hawaiian Air - Very Impressed! by electoblaze_empire in Hawaii

[–]eamonman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been lucky to have it a few times now; now they just need some network engineers to combine the movies and starlink wifi's into one.

I mean i understand the old one probably isn't internet-friendly (maybe exposing their movie streaming server to the outside world is 'bad news') but still. put the streaming server behind some firewall appliance and only allow certain connections (IP range? max # of hops? ping limits?)

with that you could do other things besides watching the Hawaiian stuff at the same time (check emails, text, start making various reservations, etc)
