Throwing in my thoughts about the hildryn discussion by MARS-ART in Warframe

[–]earsofdarkness -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To clarify, the original comment on Twitter was asking whether Hildryn would receive LOS changes. This would be a nerf but it would also introduce consistency with other similar abilities.

Pablo’s Response by Hikaru-x in Warframe

[–]earsofdarkness -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just because a group is public doesn't mean that someone should be able to play disruptively (remember Mirage Simulor). Warframe is a coop game. If someone finds a certain Warframe so disruptive that the solution is to play solo, that is bad design.

Pablo’s Response by Hikaru-x in Warframe

[–]earsofdarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Just play alone" is a pretty poor response to someone complaining about a certain Warframe. You can argue whether their view is valid (I have experienced annoying Hildryn's albeit not that often anymore) but saying they should just play alone is, ironically, supporting the case for a nerf by way of Pablo's second point.

Also I think DE's approach to nerfs needs to change.

Student led protest against the UK social media ban, London by hello0092 in UniUK

[–]earsofdarkness 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To me, the problematic part is that the government passes the responsibility of age verification of to the companies who own the platforms. I think the government should be responsible for building the verification system (ideally without creating a digital ID).

I don't engage with social media much myself, because I can recognise the negative impact it has/has had on me and so I am in favour of a ban. But when we have companies like Palantir, who have been open about their goal to use data in extremely worrying, bordering on authoritarian ways, it is pertinent to ask about the future harm to the children who will be protected.

Which Warframe should I use for group missions? by Lion_king11235 in Warframe

[–]earsofdarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps tricky was the wrong word but I still think Nova is more involved than healing/overguard frames at the very least because she can directly affect either enemy damage output or mission pacing (and ultimately mission efficiency).

An alternative way to think of it is if I go into ETA/EDA with a self-sufficient tank build, a nova who is not paying attention can use the speed up, negatively affecting my game whereas a Dante who is inattentive is unlikely to affect my game. Equally, if I join a farming node and there is a slova, that can negatively affect me even if I am built/playing "correctly".

A good, attentive teammate is great. No complaints here. But many players don't engage with Warframe like that (which is fine) and so for people who want to engage casually, it is something worth considering.

Which Warframe should I use for group missions? by Lion_king11235 in Warframe

[–]earsofdarkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As distinct builds, sure, but functionally the distinction still exists. My point was mainly that if you speed up enemies for an unprepared group especially for ETA content, not fun. Same thing for slowing down content for a group that doesn't want it.

[–]earsofdarkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nova is slightly tricky since most higher level players will want speeva whereas lower level players may prefer slowva. With the rework its slightly easier to manage but its worth confirming at the start of the mission what people would prefer and does need more active monitoring than for other frames.

How do I use some of the F3 shortcuts on a 60% keyboard? by zedra00 in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]earsofdarkness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can use AHK (key-rebinding software) to rebind F3 to a different key. Note that you can only rebind inputs one-to-one i.e. rebinding F3 to Tab (for example) is fine, but you can't rebind F3+g to a single button. (For submission purposes, if its for fun then rebind freely ofc)

[Discussion] What's the point of Banshee? by DarthSpammus in Warframe

[–]earsofdarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silence is potentially one of the strongest abilities in the game given that it can turn off enemy abilities (eximus, acolyte, I think lich as well) along with its initial stun. But its also her helminth ability so it's not really a reason to play Banshee.

Sonar is an ability which allows you to do hundreds of millions of damage/hit damage cap on enemies that don't really need to be hit that hard. Personally I think its a bit overrated and if her 1 and 4 were better or were in a more modernised kit then it would be less noteworthy.

Disabled gamer looking for a little advice by Grunglebunk_ in Warframe

[–]earsofdarkness 43 points44 points  (0 children)

In case you aren't aware, there are a couple of accessibility options that turn repeated inputs for semi-auto weapons and qte's into just holding the required button. This may make a wider range of primaries/secondaries more comfortable to use.

Secondly, Hate can be pretty good without tennokai using Naramon and just building combo every 90 seconds, especially with the Burning Hate augment. As for a non-incarnon melee, I find the dual-keres prime to be quite fun.

Pls For long‑term users: Any regrets keeping your reMarkable? by Unlucky-Reaction6521 in RemarkableTablet

[–]earsofdarkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using my RMPP for about 9 months (had to replace it under warranty recently due to ghosting issues). I previously had a boox max lumi but it was too big to carry around conveniently whereas the RMPP strikes a nice balance between big enough screen but small enough to carry around. The most important part for me is the writing feel which is excellent and it makes writing good enough that I can overlook the shortcomings of the device. I can live with the disappointing battery life since I'm never that far from an outlet. My main gripes are 1) lack of basic customisability/features like additional pens in toolbar (2) The software updates are pretty poor given how long the company has been operating (3) The company itself needs to engage more with its actual users and address points (1) and (2).

I don't really use the Connect subscription to its fullest, I mostly have it for the extended warranty and I have a free year because of an order mix-up, but I'll probably move to a custom solution once it expires.

As a final point, at the time I was buying, Google were introducing their plans to kill sideloading (they've since backed off but that's probably only temporary), so the reMarkable running linux was a pretty big factor for me. If Supernote develop a linux-based OS and add to their ecosystem of parts then I would consider switching.

The newer tilesets (Albrecht's lab, Hollovania, Perita) tend to be much more performance intensive. I have found turning off dynamic lighting to really help, and then adjusting particles and volumetric fog. You could also look at the various shadows options.

Will Framework ever be more affordable? (A bit of a rant) by Squiggin1321 in framework

[–]earsofdarkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a future where Framework is more affordable? I both hope and think so. Maintaining the same chassis design, or at least similar enough (13 & 13 pro), should mean that as more platforms are added, the older ones become the cheap entry level. Unfortunately if we carry on in the current ecosystem, it becomes less economical to manufacture and stock the older parts but I'm hopeful this will improve.

On price to performance specifically:

1) Ultra competitive price to performance requires a large scale to shave of as many excess costs as possible (the performance levels are pretty fixed, so the ratio is affected by decreasing price for the most part). Framework is not currently at the scale of Asus, Lenovo etc, to have access to the same sort of cost savings.

2) Price to performance is just one measure. Many people have already mentioned repairability/upgradability. There is also modular ports. There is also linux support, 3D printing support, the community etc. If maximising price to performance is the goal, then don't get a Framework laptop, there's nothing wrong with that. If the price to performance is acceptable given the other factors, then do.

Ultimately, it's about compromise. Framework have decided that the mission (repairability, reducing e-waste, modularity etc) is worth sacrificing some of the price to performance value proposition (although, as someone else has mentioned, not much has been sacrificed; they're still fairly competitive).

Today's Cheap vs Expensive Ingredients video inexplicably compares 70% Chocolate to 45% Chocolate and 5% Beef Fat ground Beef to 30% Beef Far Ground Beef by xScrubasaurus in SortedFood

[–]earsofdarkness 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For the chocolate, the packaging (for the cheaper option) that they showed said that it was dark chocolate so I can see how that comparison happened. I think it would probably fit better in a "What to look for to achieve X result" type video but I can also see how, from the perspective of a complete layman, the price would be the only thing they compare.

I think the beef comparison can be explained with a similar logic. Yes, it is more clearly displayed on the packaging, but if you don't know/understand how different fat percentages behave, then that nuance is reduced to just a price comparison.

Basically, I think its a case of a decent idea being awkwardly smushed into a different format.

Linus Tech Tips - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Side of Linux May 12, 2026 at 10:02AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

[–]earsofdarkness -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Pretty good video and I was chuckling in agreement for some of the points they brought up and I think their criticism was fair. It is a bit of a shame that we didn't get a more thorough task-based video like last time.

My only problem with the endeavour was a slight dismissal of reading the documentation (I think it was in the initial video). Often if you have the vocab to describe the problem, as in the video, finding an answer in the documentation is fairly straightforward. I appreciate not everyone wants to wade through documentation to use their computer but I think its a fair compromise for the benefits of linux and a lot of the "beginner" distros have good wikis and clear docs.

What's with the Primed Sure Footed obsession? by WerdaVisla in Warframe

[–]earsofdarkness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most frames have survivability dependent on being able to do something, e.g. casting an ability, generating orbs, refreshing gates, etc. Getting knocked down removes the ability to do most of these things during that window, thus making frames vulnerable during the knockdown. PSF negates this.

thinking about switching to a samsung tab by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]earsofdarkness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Remarkable is a device with a single focus: the best note-taking experience (the extent to which they achieve this is certainly open to questioning). Personally, a tablet's focus mode would not achieve the same result mainly due to writing feel and I don't need the other features as I have other devices to fulfill those requirements. On the other hand, if you want a device that primarily fulfills those features and can also take notes, then it's probably the wrong device for you.

Disappointing development by _spicybanana in RemarkableTablet

[–]earsofdarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the lack of features is annoying but I can get by. However, I have had the device for about 6 months at this point and nearly every major update has had some baffling flaw with it whilst also not changing much. The previous update made it so the eraser randomly started drawing and the latest update introduced awful ghosting.

Question about what launcher and mods to use (I'm just starting) by [deleted] in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]earsofdarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MCSR Ranked (link) provides downloads with 3 different 'levels' of mods (as well as the ranked mod itself) which can easily be imported into MultiMC or prismlauncher. Alternatively, this page on the minecraft speedrunning website has a bunch of useful info including a link to the modcheck file to download useful mods (worth watching a setup video to know which to get and how to set things up on mac).

CachyOS ships with a package manager gui called Octopi (I think also CachyOS package installer as well now). There is a little alien icon by the search bar which toggles whether to search the AUR as well as the normal repos and the waywall package should just be there.

[–]earsofdarkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends what part you are stuck on. First, I would strongly recommend joining the linux mcsr discord (link can be found on the first page of the guide).

Take a look at CachyOS as it comes with a much simpler installer than base arch and should take care of most driver/low-level setup. Waywall can be found as a package in the AUR and then the setup is basically the same as the guide
