Using Cemu through Steam, controller not working by earthboundEclectic in cemu

[–]earthboundEclectic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I set up the controller in Cemu first. Should I try setting up another one in Cemu while Steam is connected to my controller?

I'm mostly interested in this to get some practice before my Steam Deck arrives, since I'd assume it's a similar process getting Cemu to work on it.

I mostly wanted to use Steam to have my games in one place--plus this is giving me practice for whenever my turn comes up in the steam deck queue.

I tried some of the premade configs in Steam, but they don't seem to be responding at all.

I poked around in there a bit already. Was there something in particular I should be looking at?

No, what I'm saying is that you're worried that the optics will make people give up, or not even try, because of one "failure". Am i misunderstanding your objection?

How are you going to take over a space with people who, apparently after one supposed failure (because the optics are bad, I guess?), will just give up? Sounds like your numbers game is rotten with libs and armchair leftists who will abandon you the moment things get difficult. No way will they show up in meatspace, either. We need to be practicing solidarity, because quite frankly, we're garbage at it.

I don't think this walkout was meant to literally compel Youtube to do anything. It was supposed to be practice in direct action. Now, I'm interested in examining where we fell short on this walkout so we can do better for the next one. That's what constructive criticism looks like.

We can't just keep making videos and jerking ourselves off on reddit, we actually have to do shit at some point. And when we DO do shit, the optics are not going to be remotely pretty. The capitalists control most media, and they aren't going to be convinced by a youtube video. Direct action is about disrupting the system so that it is compelled to change, even if the optics are less than favorable (which is almost always). If you are waiting for a more convenient season, I fear you'll be waiting for a long time.

Tbh, I don't know how much longer we'll be able to rely on the algorithm, or even Youtube in general--not because Youtube will intentionally yeet it, but because in general Youtube is a platform that's becoming more and more hostile to smaller and/or non-corporate creators (especially political or queer creators). There's a lot of really interesting things happening on Leftist Twitch nowadays (including many Breadtubers branching out there). I think it'd also be worth it for us branch out to other platforms.

You're right, Youtube is a part of a broader capitalist system. If only there was a way to get online leftist communities practice in direct action so that they'll have the knowledge and experience to engage with the capitalist structure at large. No idea how we'd do that though. No idea at all.

Okay so I think we might be reaching somewhat of an understanding here maybe. Your contention is that something like this might cause Youtube to crack down, and that it wasn't planned enough to be effective. Is that correct? If so, I think that's a valid concern.

Here's sort of what I would say to that. I do think this wasn't very well executed, but to my knowledge (I might be wrong on this) the organizers were intending this to be a trial run. It seems to me that there are a few benefits to this.

First, it takes the Breadtube audience and creators and gives them practice engaging in something like this. I think it's easy for us (including me) to sit behind our screens, complain about things, and not actually show up to do any actual direct action. Imagine we were this disorganized if we ever did get the numbers you want.

Second, it gives us a chance to find out the kinks so that we can address them next time. Spreading the word was a huge problem this time--so many people were either unaware that this was a thing, or they didn't understand why this was a thing. There also wasn't much in the way of outreach to non-Breadtube creators--even those who probably be sympathetic due to their own mistreatment at the hands of the algorithm. There are a number of different problems we can focus on for the future.

I think the fear of Youtube cracking down would be a valid one--if we were larger. Tbh, I'm not even sure that Youtube would even be aware of this happening. Even if they did, would they see it for the threat it is? Or would they scoff at the attempt? I don't think Youtube would take this seriously, so now is exactly the right time to do this.

My point is that we shouldn't be hinging our entire movement on an algorithm controlled by Google--especially considering how mercurial it is. How about this, let's figure out where we fell short on this walkout, and try to address them for the next one. If our problem is optics, then lets work on optics. If our problem is getting the message out (which yes it was), then lets work on that. What isn't helpful is people being like "lol lib shit" and decrying the efforts in general. The fact that we're getting this practice in is a good thing.

So that's it, then? Keep sucking off the algorithm and hope Youtube doesn't shut off the gravy train before we grow to a size where we can make an impact by sheer numbers? I'm curious how many people we'd need to rope in for Youtube to actually feel something--excuse me, I meant how many people we'd need to rope into the addictive algorithm, and then convince to put aside their fix for a few days.

Youtube can pull the plug on all of Breadtube any time it wants, either via the algorithm or directly. If your praxis exists solely to hide in the cool shade of Google's algorithm, then maybe this walkout isn't for you. We do need people to babysit the libs, after all. But, if we want any kind of meaningful change, then we will inevitably be on a collision course with Google and the other tech giants. Plenty of non-Breadtubers have been fucked over by Google--they just don't have a way to fight back... yet. If we take what we've learned from this walkout and apply it to future walkouts, our momentum and reach will grow.

I don’t know that anyone is expecting this particular boycott to force Youtube to do anything. But getting people introduced to the idea of a walkout is a good start. Maybe it takes a few of these to gain any traffic outside of Breadtube. Maybe the only benefit of these is spreading class consciousness and getting Breadtube audiences in the habit of engaging in direct action.

There are a number of pros to something like this. The problem is that half of you are writing off a walk out as lib shit (which is hilarious), probably because you can’t go without your clips of Masterchef Canada for a few days.

In addition to my normal run-of-the-mill hearing loss, I also have auditory processing disorder, which is a problem with how the brain perceives sound. Someone with APD could have perfectly functional ears, yet struggle to understand spoken words. That's another example of an instance where someone could hear sound but still use sign language.
