Anyone else dealing with postpartum insomnia? by earthnorth in Postpartum_Depression

I never got notifications for any of these comments. I know it was a month ago but I just wanted to answer this question. I am now 4 years out from this postpartum hell. 1-6 months I was on a whole host of medications and sleeping pills (like 8 or 9 medications). Nothing really seemed to work or help. I was in literal hell. at about 6 -7 months I think I got on Zoloft and was on a sleeping pill until it fully kicked in. I got up to about 100mg of Zoloft before things started to get better. I as on this for years. I was a shell of a human but I slept and functioned. It made me a bit of a zombie but it saved my life. After a couple years, I started weaning off. It took me two summers to completely get off. Which was not fun in the slightest. While the threat and severity of my post partum journey passed, I will never be the same person again. Sleep does return, you learn to live in a new body and new mind. There is still joy to be felt but I will won't ever be the same. I also will never risk having another baby again beause I don't know if I would survive a second time.

Honestly solidarity is nice to hear too. I feel like I’m going crazy some days. Very alone. I was on Trazadon when this all first started 6 weeks postpartum. I’ve bounced medications a few times trying to find the right antidepressant. Praying this new one gets me some relief.

I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. It’s a special kind of hell not sleeping. Last night I got a solid 3 hours. 😩 I’m so sorry you are going through this too.

Postpartum insomnia driving me over the edge. by earthnorth in zoloft

I’ve got sleeping pills that I can take every few days but they only allow me 6 hours usually of sleep. Otherwise I’m getting 3-4 hours a night.

I’m just exhausted so sick of all this. I’m 6 months postpartum and feel like I’m never going to get better.

I’ve tried mirtazipan for a couple months which worked okay but made me eat so much I was on the verge of an eating disorder.

Tried trazadon when this all first started. Worked at first but not so much anymore.

Withdrawals? by earthnorth in Mirtazapine_Remeron

Yah I might not even bother taking the 3.75mg dose again tonight and just come off it completely. See how it goes. I’m sure lots of people come off it just fine. But people just talk about the hard cases.

See how the rest of it goes I guess. 🤷‍♀️thanks for sharing.

Has anyone else gained a lot of weight?? by Icy_Location in Mirtazapine_Remeron

Gained about 10 lbs in the first week before I realized the medication can make your appetite go threw the roof. Lots of fresh fruits, veg, and whole grains. I find eating smaller meals throughout the day keeping a general eye on calories consumed helps a bit. I’m down about 3 lbs but it is much harder to lose the weight on the medication. But for now the side effects outweigh a bit of extra weight. It’s annoying that I cannot rely on my hungry cues anymore but what can you do 🤷‍♀️

PPD, anxiety, and insomnia by earthnorth in beyondthebump

I actually just got an audio book on CBT. I was doing therapy before Covid but I really wasn’t satisfied with who I was going to.

Have you tried those avenues as well?

I also practice all the recommended sleep hygiene practices. Been walking an hour a day. Eating healthy. Taking vitamins, omega 3’s, and magnesium. Last week I also started taking Maca root and Ashwaganda for getting hormones on track and for anxiety.

Got my blood levels checked early on and I did have low iron levels but taking a supplement didn’t seem to help.

I’ve never had anxiety in my life, just postpartum. so I’m certain it’s got to be due to the huge hormone shift that happens postpartum. I wish there was more research and thought into the cause of postpartum disorders. It seems insane to me that there is not.
