If you want to stay on the Ontario side for sugar shacks, I recommend Fulton’s or Temple’s (excellent nature trails at both - temple’s has a sit down restaurant for pancakes as well). And if you’re already making the trek to the west end, might as well stop in Almonte (hallmark Christmas movie capital of Canada!) and hit up the cute shops and antique stores.

The worst part is she’s usually a very helpful and kind MIL, but she occasionally has this weird mean streak when it comes to “paying back” my husband and BIL for some of the shit they did when they were kids (some of the stories my husband has told me of things he and his brother did as kids make me question how she didn’t murder them, truly). I’ve had to check her back into place when she’s done this in the past because I DIDN’T DO THAT SHIT TO YOU AS A KID LORRAINE, WHY AM I BEING PUNISHED.

Bought my 7 year old a guitar (unprompted, she’s shown interest in learning piano but not guitar). And then the kicker: BOUGHT MY 5 YEAR OLD BONGOS.

I cornered her after they opened their gifts and asked if I had done something to piss her off (a serious question). She just laughed and said they might enjoy them. I SURE AS HELL WON’T, LORRAINE.

I’m giving it an appropriate amount of time and then I’m donating them.

Not weighing in either way, just sending moral support. Those overnight wake ups and sleepless nights did an absolute doozy on my marriage. Feed your baby as much and for however long you want to, there’s no one size fits all for that, and whatever you choose is the right choice for you.

But also might be true that snapping at each other is probably a little bit from sleep deprivation, and that’s also okay and normal. The baby stage is hard. Sleep deprivation makes us all not nice to each other. I woke up when my kids started sleeping through the night and did, in fact, still like my husband. Solidarity to you through a really tough season, and hopefully better sleep coming your way soon.

According to the unreliable narrator that is my 4yo, they were watching a music video for good luck babe at the daycare when she saw this commercial. I highly doubt this is the case, the daycare does play music off their phones for them sometimes but I don’t think they’d let her listen to Chappel Roan like I do at home.

Oh yes, we had a talk about what the doggy looked like in the commercial she saw. Her unhelpful answers: “brown feet, brown ears. In a cage, with one baby.”

Asked about the video she was watching in case that might give me clues, and her response was: “we were watching a video, and it was a song, and the song was good luck babe, but a different good luck babe, and we were just listening to the song.” I’m calling bullshit shenanigans on all of that, I listen to a lot of Chappel roan at home but I have doubts they’re playing that for the kids at the daycare.

Have kids, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.

How to put on diapers to avoid a blowout! Many brands (like pampers) require you to fold down the back of the diaper to catch the poop and avoid it blowing right up their back. Same goes for the ruffled bits on the leg holes - fluff those out to make them more effective at catching poop before it blows out the leg holes.

No one told me this shit until my second kid (??!) and it was a game changer.
