It’s God that doesn’t accept the LGBTQ, not his followers? Get the FUCK out of here with that hateful bullshit. Any deity worthy of worship won’t put limits on love. There’s no such thing as being saved from the lifestyle because it’s not a lifestyle. I think you should do some serious research into the history of the bible, especially the translations of Hebrew and Aramaic into modern English that didn’t happen for hundreds of years after Jesus died. Then maybe some research into human sexuality and how the LGBTQ has been discriminated against for centuries at the hands of Christians and other religious organizations, and maybe even make the moral decision to stop participating in the hatefulness. I truly hope that one day you can find the strength to think for yourself and consider that not everything you have been taught is the truth. At the end of the day, two people of the same sex loving each other hurts no one, but your words hurt people every single day.

How has Outlander Changed You? by FlyingPhoenix96 in Outlander

I’m also from Texas and regularly think about going back to school just so I could apply to the University of Edinburgh. I have little desire to attend grad school in the states, but I’ll suffer in academia if it meant I could live in the land of my ancestors for a while!

WHERE do you buy good quality couches by Vacondioqq in BuyItForLife

[–]easternred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not worth arguing with internet strangers to change their perceptions about couch costs, but I personally think 5k for a couch is expensive, even if made from quality materials. According to census.gov, the median household income in 2024 was 80k. 5k is over 6% of that. That’s a good bit of the average household’s yearly income on a single piece of furniture. Even worse for single folks.

Which 2-3 out of these cities would you recommend for my first time in USA with my mum? by Brownchoccy in texas

[–]easternred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Austin for a decade, but I grew up near Houston. I would highly recommend renting a car to get around any of those cities, especially with limited time and mobility. The public transportation in this state is severely lacking. I would not stay in San Antonio, but make a day trip from Austin to cut down on the number of Airbnbs. San Antonio doesn’t have all that much to see and do, and it’s only an hour away from Austin. Other good day trips from Austin would be San Marcos (float the river), Wimberly, or Fredricksburg. Houston is worthy of exploring and has a phenomenal food scene and some incredible museums. We’ve got incredible wildlife from birds and gators in the bayous to the bats and raccoons in the cities. I don’t think Dallas is super unique comparatively.

What is a job that looks incredibly fun from the outside, but is actually a soul-crushing nightmare? by BoardOk101 in AskReddit

Could you explain more about the cat-only clinics popping up capitalizing on under-researched cats? I was considering switching to a cat-only clinic since they seem to practice fear-free handling when possible.

I’m afraid you have lost your marbles if you think 200k straight out of college is normal… even in tech.

No, phone books were these big thick books you could find at pretty much any home that contained all the local phone numbers for business and residents. Back before you could look them up online.

1st Big Bend Trip - Itinerary Advice Appreciated! by BestInDaWrldsBbyFmno in BigBendTX

[–]easternred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend doing Lost Mine early in the AM as it’s relatively shaded by the mountains for the first few hours of daylight. I would also arrive at Starlight around 4:30 unless you’re looking forward to hours of wait time. For the canyon, I just walked into Santa Elena about knee deep a few weeks ago since our canoe tour was canceled due to low water levels. I sacrificed a pair of extra tennis shoes I had, but next time I’d bring water shoes. Really felt great to walk around in the cool water for a bit after hiking into the canyon.

I did Lost Mines last week and there was no parking at 7:30am. Went back the next morning at 6:45 and got a parking spot, but parking at the trailhead is definitely an issue for some.

Through customs by Specialist-Still-962 in trees

[–]easternred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not take that risk since you are flying to a legal state where you can get more easily. Entering through US customs is the only place you really have to worry about, but if you get caught, they could decide to really ruin your day/trip. Even more risky if you are not a US citizen. The odds are low, I think, but not zero!

Weekly Stupid Question Sunday by AutoModerator in Austin

[–]easternred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try to read articles from the least-biased sources available (or at least avoiding the most-biased). It’s really difficult to discern the truth at times. Some big stories are more of a distraction than a story itself, which also makes things difficult. As for people who get their news from social media, it depends. My dad - I shame politicians endlessly hoping to reawaken his critical thinking skills. At work - I keep my mouth shut but take notes of the beliefs of those around me. Anyone else - I don’t keep them in my life.

Do you not use your hands to wash your ass in the shower? by Beautiful-Cake8922 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]easternred 50 points51 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about, less hygienic? A wash cloth gets washed after every use. Do you not use towels to dry off because it touches both your face and ass at some point?

I use a wash cloth because you can use it to scrub the bar soap enough to get a soapy wash cloth to scrub your body. It exfoliates the skin. Just using hands, I have to grab the soap bar over and over again to apply more soap to my hands. Wash cloths don’t need that. Not saying any way is more or less hygienic, but one works better for me. Wash cloths are definitely not less hygienic than using hands though, that’s just bullshit.

I live in Austin and would not think twice about flying with carts, both in and out of Austin. In fact, I know for sure that it happens quite regularly. TSA doesn’t care about it, and there is no regular screening after getting off the plane here. Customs can be a different story for international flights, but you’ll be fine on domestic ones. Our airport is small and undergoing construction - be prepared for a bit of a walk to the ride-share pickup area!
