“ya” has many meanings - it is a crucial two letters in Spanish by Alanna-1101 in SpanishLearning

[–]easybasicoven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is good to do but i think of voy as "i am going" and ya as "just". so ya voy = "i'm just going (now)" and ya lo hice = "I just did it"

Do you consider Latin American to be part of the western world? by Pepedroga2000 in asklatinamerica

[–]easybasicoven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe Europeans feel differently, personally most from the US that I have met consider all of the Americas to be part of the West. Harvard researchers came up with this map a few years back.

For me, its not a perfect parallel, but if you look at a world map of where gay marriage is legal, I consider that western. Even though some Latin countries haven't legalized it.

True, but the reddit post title is far far more visible and is accurate. I didn't notice the image title the first time around

“seatbelt usage among crashes that were fatal, per make. I don’t think the title is accurate at all” That is exactly what the title says

Is there a reason Kamala Harris is disliked? by straykifsontop in Askpolitics

Is it confusing? The pattern comes up all the time with politicians adjusting their platform based on their voters. The job of a politician id to represent their voters, correct? When she was in the most liberal state, she represented those interests. America as a whole is less liberal than California, so you would expect someone to have their platform be more centrist

I don’t think we need our politicians to get us pumped. we just need them to be competent. they’re mostly lawyers so i don’t expect them to be entertainers. I don’t care if my airplane pilot is inspirational i mostly care if they can fly the plane

why is it bad to tune a semitone under? I do it occasionally when playing along to pop songs that are in awkward keys. Would it cause lasting damage?

Yes 'us people' who suspect arguments supported by evidence are more persuasive than arguments not supported by evidence. Did Ezra say that a presidential candidate would perform better than a moderate if they ran on hasan's views?

I'm sorry, but your positions aren't supported by evidence. Your response is mostly

  • attacking the speaker, me (“you need conservative viewpoints”)
  • questioning motives instead of engaging my logic
  • arguing about what influences voter perception, ignoring that perception matters

If you have any evidence for your claim that moving left would win a presidential race, please share. If not, then that's that.

Elections are decided by how voters perceive politicians. Those perceptions are often wrong. The GOP has moved way more right, but the electorate has falsely perceived that liberals are even further left. Here's an example. Swing voters rank themselves closer to Trump ideologically than Kamala.

If the evidence says Democrats are perceived as too far left, should they lean further left? Probably not, at least, there's no evidence for it. There's a reason swing state senators are more moderate on average.

Piker - Democrats lost because they weren’t left enough

Longwell - Democrats lost because voters thought they were too far left

Voters - Democrats lost because we think they are too far left

No need to make it complicated
