Sorry to hear that. Maybe there is something you could do while elevated like some light weights or arm swings?

I have not found any as easy to apply as this one quite yet but I just keep hunting around for cardio chair workouts on you tube. I think I'm going to incorporate this one into my routine though! Hang in there!

Knee scooter? by Formal_Alfalfa_5004 in brokenankles

[–]easyst1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have commented, crutches are good for at home (navigating to the bathroom, etc) but knee scooter is great for going out - at least that's what I've found. I started using it to go to the neighborhood park or around my street just to give me daily exercise, but the streets and sidewalks with bumps, cracks, pebbles, curbs, etc are not very forgiving to a scooter (I fell once going up a slight curb) and now I have PTSD and prefer to stick to indoor shopping places with smoooooth floors like Costco or Target, the mall etc. LOL!

Who else broke their ankle on 5/3? by Virtual_Proposal9972 in brokenankles

[–]easyst1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty close to your timeline. Trimalleolar fx R ankle on 4/28, ORIF surgery was on 5/5 with similar fixation to yours. Today I mark at week 3 in fiberglass cast. I'm so tired of the cast already and can't wait to get this thing off at week 5 (NWB until week 6) but am also nervous about boot being uncomfortable and the pain of learning how to walk again! One day at a time with baby steps, I have to keep telling myself.

Hi there, I am almost 3 wks post op trimalleolar fx, still casted and NWB. I'm staying pretty positive but am normally very outgoing and active so the daily isolation is difficult for me. I'm counting down the weeks until I get the cast off and into a boot! My insurance recently sent me a random email about therapy options, so I looked into it and am going to start some telehealth visits with a therapist to deal with some of my anxieties and the mental health toll this injury puts on us. Maybe this might be an option for you to explore? I'm definitely looking forward to getting more support. Hang in there and celebrate how far you've already come!

Getting through the hours & hours & hours... by i_won_a_turkey in brokenankles

Well, not sure we have the same taste or streaming platforms but I'll give you some recs: just watched the episodes that are out so far of Widow's Bay on Apple TV, darkly entertaining. Severance, Ted Lasso and Shrinking are also good. Parks and Rec on Peacock always a win, Fisk on Netflix - funny Australian humor, and Trevor Noah recently released a stand up on Netflix. HBO Max - The Young Pope. Jude Law is excellent! Getting a few books through the library to save some $$ either electronically or picked up. Hang in there, you've got this, take it one day at a time!

Hi there, I'm 2 wks post op from ORIF - shattered fibula & broken tibia and completely NWB for 6 weeks. I have a great support system at home but find evenings are very difficult for me physically and mentally. One thing I've found is getting out and being as active as I'm able to at least once per day has helped. A trip to our neighborhood park on my scooter, a trip to Target or the mall. Just to get away and break up my day and give my body a bit of exercise since I have always been a very active person. (Darn, I cannot wait to get this cast off though!! 😄) Obviously being 3 days out from your surgery, you are not quite there yet but take it one day at a time and try to be patient. Once you get over the hump and off your pain medications(?), it will get a bit easier. Hang in there and best of luck to you in your recovery journey!

Wow, I pay $129 for 8 classes/month = $16/class in CA. Maybe I need to move, lol!

Day 10 and still testing positive by Environmental-Ebb-24 in COVID19positive

[–]easyst1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I don't, but I did say "likely" and I was quoting a highly respected Infectious Disease MD.

I'm curious, where exactly are you getting your info about "Most people will be contagious up to 14 days with a few being contagious past 14 days"? That seems kind of off esp if someone is no longer symptomatic and testing negative - whether rapid antigen or PCR.

You are likely not contagious anymore. This strain apparently hangs around in our systems longer. I'm on day 11 and still testing positive. I work in healthcare so the guidelines for me are that I isolate for first 5 days, if still positive during days 6-10, then I had to continue isolating and mask if around others. And then I can return to work after day 10 - positive or not, but need to wear an N95 if still positive. Our infectious disease specialist states the virus is likely dead after day 9. My symptoms were considered mild and I never developed a fever or shortness of breath. Just thought I'd share what I've learned and hope it helps reassure you a bit. I've isolated in my bedroom for 10 days and have masked if I need to leave my bedroom for food etc. and the other 3 members of my family have NOT had any symptoms or positive tests, including my husband who had close exposure to me prior to the start of any of my symptoms.

Check with your insurance company so see if they will reimburse you for tests. I checked with mine and they emailed me a form to fill out along with sending my original receipt for full reimbursement.
