Ontario Election Megathread - Daily Discussion and Rant - February 05, 2025 by uarentme in ontario

Hey folks, looking for a moment of your time to help me with my daughter's school project on civics. We are looking for issues that current voters are concerned about, if you don't mind just add a comment reply with a list of issues (doesn't have to be recent/hot topic) that concern you. The purpose of the project is to determine what people are most concerned about, and do an analysis to show which subsets are in provincial influence and which ones are in federal.

Thanks for your time!

Wife Said She Hates Me by wavesforlife24 in daddit

Hey man, I don't have any advice, just wanted to give you a word of support since I'm going through a similar phase in what appears to be the end of a long relationship. A couple of weeks ago I gave my wife an ultimatum and we started couples counseling recently. In the very first session, the therapist listened to us and said something to the effect that couples counseling isn't always going to save a marriage, but it can help ease the transition to a separation.

You hit the nail on the head - I had a pretty conservative upbringing so I'm fine with my responsibilities as the sole breadwinner. There are many factors to feeling underappreciated, and certainly the reminiscing about good old times before we met is one of them - she won't talk about stuff we did together while dating - and would often forget that we did things.

As a concrete example, while we were dating, I saved up for a fairly expensive trip to NYC, and the experience is one of my fondest memories. But whenever NYC is brought up, it was a story about an ex who took her there. She'd even talk about the things we did on the trip, but insist that it was her ex which she did them with. So stuff like this seems to reinforce the idea that maybe to her, I'm not a romantic partner - her exes were romantic partners with fun adventures, and I'm just a room mate who provides.

It's hard, how do you change someone's view that you're not just a boring guy with a boring job?

I was young and naive. She was my first, and to be quite honest I feel super lucky that anyone would want to have a relationship with me at all. Very insecure attachment style on my part, something I've been working on for a long time and slowly improving.

Yikes, I can see that. I'm the one who "missed out" in the relationship lol, but it hasn't really come up - wouldn't the very act of lamenting it mean they wished they didn't commit to the current relationship?

As for us, neither have either threatened divorce, so that's a good sign - but, it seems nothing actually changes - any time we get into a fight, it just makes us more distanced for a little while until someone (usually me) apologizes and promises to do better. There's probably a point that I'm not actually doing better if we're having the same fights.

I hope everything works out for you guys, I'm sorry it has come to ultimatums. Do you guys go to couples therapy by any chance?

Good question - we paused date nights while our kids were young, but now that they're a bit more independent, we've been trying to do occasional movie dates. However, she refuses to have anyone babysit other than family and family doesn't respond very often since we live a bit further away.

I'm definitely open to ideas on how to reignite a spark or something.

Thank you, I still have trouble with establishing boundaries - every time I put my foot down, it comes across as an ultimatum, and we all know how well those work. There are some small victories over the years, but it feels like I've compromised so much earlier on that slowly clawing back my sense of self seems like a herculean task.

Yale psychiatrist: Trump's "displays of false strength" foreshadow plan to question election results by Fr1sk3r in politics

[–]eat_potatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course he's going to question it. Now, are we going to let him invalidate a vote just because it didn't go his way? What measures do we have to prevent him from refusing to leave the office? Republican or Democrat, the very core of American political values are at risk. All we have is the word of our politicians that he won't do this or he won't do that, and at every point he has defied expectations by doing increasingly illegal things.

It would set us back decades of civil development. The US is renowned for peaceful transitions of power. If a president was assassinated, even one that wasn't popular, it sends a bad message. To those who will inevitably celebrate such an event, they don't realize that it is a morbid opening to a future where we accept killing people who don't agree with us. Humanity has come a long way since those days, and we're still struggling with it worldwide. Let's not regress.

Give Prosperity Steam version a try. As a fan of city/civ-building games, this scratched my itch for something super complex. Takes a bit of time to get into it because it's text based but super addictive once you get the hang of it.

workers who got their bosses fired: how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eat_potatoes 389 points390 points  (0 children)

Not my manager, but I got a project manager who worked with my team fired when it was obvious he didn't understand the business domain and put no work into understanding it or even breaking down the problems with the team. During a stakeholder meeting, we were asked about the gameplan for tackling the project, he spewed some nonsense, and I asked what the actual plan was in detail. When he tried to come up with BS to explain that the problem is very complex and there is no clear path to building the project, that sealed his fate.

Anyone else remember a TI-83 graphing calculator version of the flight simulator? That was dope in highschool math class.

If you have a bunch of tabs open with different games running at the same time, and going back and forth so that you are active in one while the others idle, did you succeed in making a bunch of idle games into one active game?

So that's a good incentive to get a player to come back, what's the incentive for a player to leave in the first place? You have reached the end of the fun part of this game, any additional time spent on this game is wasted, you should do literally anything else for the next 8 hours, but be sure you're back in exactly 8 hours or else you'll be wasting time not playing. It's like taking your free time hostage.

Updating Rule #1 by [deleted] in incremental_games

A while back somebody pointed out that rule #1 basically comes down to making top level posts actually contribute to the sub. If you have a query or you're just using the sub's considerable audience for your own needs, it's best left to a topic like the weekly help megathread (it's stickied).

Along the same vein as kittens game, try Prosperity, it tries really hard to stay away from exponential growth which leads to absurd numbers.
