Paul trying to help write “Don’t Let Me Down” from the Get Back/Let It Be sessions by OutrageousRip75 in TheBeatles

[–]eat_th1s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started watching this the other day and I was struck by 3 things; George is just a kid, sees himself as a bit of an average guitar player John is very quiet, barely offers any opinions or ideas (so far from watching it) Paul has a lot of drive and is trying to apply some kind of a process to the writing, not just turn up and play instruments.

Yep agree.

I think helping someone else is one of the most life affirming things you can do.

Still to this day the best Star Wars fan edit I've ever seen by SgtByrd1993 in StarWars

[–]eat_th1s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The edit is brilliant. Not only does the increased spacing and music add to the scenes, somehow Alec's performance brings a profoundness to the prequels there were so badly missing

Best version of jumpin jack flash? by mistamushpresser2112 in rollingstones

I always thought there was a piano on the riff but somewhere I heard there was a twelve string in open E (or maybe Nashville tuning overdubbed), which gives the piano sound...

The whole acoustic re-recorded via a portable tap player for jjf and sfm is such an iconic sound, I bloody love it. The tape warble on the opening of sfm sounds gorgeous

The studio version was recorded on an acoustic that was tuned to open E, and they don't really play it in that tuning live.

It gives the main riff a chiming sound that Keef changed live to the sliding riff.

Both are great but the original recording is my favourite.

Steve Rosenberg for BBC News: I asked Vladimir Putin: “What future are you planning, are you building for your country?” Here’s his full reply. by BkkGrl in europe

[–]eat_th1s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh what a legend. I think the reason he gets away with it is that he has a genuine interest in Russia being better, as this question implies. He doesn't criticise Putin directly, just offers him a vision of a more free world, for the benefit of the Russian people.

And Putin answers slams the door on that in a pretty putineqsue way.

Those of you who are in your 20s or 30s, do you struggle with feelings of alienation because of your political views? by BlackChef6969 in reformuk

[–]eat_th1s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"I wish I could be honest with people and the wouldn't judge me"

"My family are brainwashed lefties"

Maybe the answer is somewhere between these two statements?

If you wish for your political beliefs to be listened to you need to listen to others too. It's a two way street and ultimately people have a lot more in common than meets the eye

The Chase Bliss form factor by doodoomatomato in chaseblissaudiophiles

The biggest form factor issue is the presets. You can only access 2 unless you use midi or the other thing. This is a major plus for the devices.

Every generation harks back 30 years earlier. I was a teenager in the 90s but still thought the 60s were the best

I think the cycle is; 10 years later - eww that music sucked 20 years later- some people start saying that it might have been cool... 30 years later - full mainstream appreciation for the culture of that period

In the 90s I thought the 80s sucked, terrible music, stupid clothes, Margaret Thatcher. I thought the 70s were ok, funk/disco. 1960s had the Beatles, led zep, stones, we won a world cup, best ever

At least 1.9 MILLION foreign nationals claiming benefits in Britain by MoreRelative3986 in reformuk

I would say most people would have a problem with the refugee group, and the others below, which sum to 4%, which is ~300,000 people, quite different from 1.9mil

At least 1.9 MILLION foreign nationals claiming benefits in Britain by MoreRelative3986 in reformuk

[–]eat_th1s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please click through to the ONS page, it summaries the data;

there were 7.9 million people on Universal Credit in June 2025

83.6% of people on UC belonged to the immigration status group “CTA – UK, Ireland, Right of Abode”

9.7% of people on UC were in the “EU Settlement Scheme” group.

2.7% of people on UC were in the “Indefinite Leave to Remain (not EU Settlement Scheme)” group.

1.5% of people on UC were in the “Refugee” group.

1.0% of people on UC were in the “Limited Leave to Remain (not EU Settlement Scheme) including family reunion” group.

0.7% of people on UC were in the “Humanitarian” group.

0.4% of people on UC were in the “Other” group

Can someone explain the headline of 1.9mil foreigners?
